Ike's Aether does the same thing.definitely is a factor. His knockback on Blazer gets a significant buff when they are charging a move.....for some reason
seems like the most bizarre mechanic. I guess it better for casual plays cause you'll see that more often but it's a rare occurrence that someone is changing an attack and lets you hit them. really, it seems like the only time you'll see this other than a fluke is at the edge like this. So it's worth noting to NOT be on the edge charging when its a stage that blazer will clip throughIke's Aether does the same thing.
Wait what? Why in the world is that a thing? And how did I not come across this when looking into knockback variables?definitely is a factor. His knockback on Blazer gets a significant buff when they are charging a move.....for some reason
Didn't look hard enough. I guess players will learn not to charge Smash attacks against Roy then.Wait what? Why in the world is that a thing? And how did I not come across this when looking into knockback variables?
I wonder how early you could kill someone with a fully charged forwards smash at max rage when the opponent is charging a smash. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that's an OHKO too. Flare Blade, Blazer, ludicrously strong countered attacks, Roy has a lot of ways he can OHKO doesn't he?Didn't look hard enough. I guess players will learn not to charge Smash attacks against Roy then.
At max rage it basically is a 0% kill. You'll probably never see it though unless you get balls luckyI wonder how early you could kill someone with a fully charged forwards smash at max rage when the opponent is charging a smash. I'm not saying it's practical, but the sheer fact that it's possible is staggering. Roy has to be at least top 10 in the game in terms of kill power. Roy's legal at CEO right? I can see a lot of people getting salty at getting killed at 50%.At max rage it basically is a 0% kill. You'll probably never see it though unless you get balls lucky
I'm not saying Roy needs a nerf, but you really can't afford mess up against a good Roy. A lot of people have made the comparison to Ganondorf, except Roy can do things outside of punish situations. Although if they do nerf f smash the most they would probably do is reduce the max damage by one percent or tweak it's knockback. The thing about Roy's fsmash is that it's perfectly balanced between Lucina's and Marth's. Nerf it more than a tiny, tiny bit and it'll be too close to Lucina's.
I'd be fine with 18/16/10 damage instead of 20/17/12 as a nerf if it still did the same ridiculous kills, but that still doesn't feel quite right. It's mainly stage positioning and poor DI that cause them, people need to learn how to subtly respect Roy's fsmash at different %'s with stage positioning and just get better DI.
Though one of Roy's problems in Melee was racking up damage and he's finally good at it with that 20/17/12 spread for fsmash (with tons of dumber characters and tons of characters overall that require less skill to play) so I don't think he deserves a nerf by any stretch. Maybe even buffs to help him work around shields just a bit better and get more consistent true combos.
Not just Roy, it's a universal thing. If you get hit with a knockback-inducing move while charging a smash attack, you'll take more knockback. Kinda like the opposite of crouch-canceling.definitely is a factor. His knockback on Blazer gets a significant buff when they are charging a move.....for some reason
Roy is honestly a faster Dorf. From a certain perspective.I'm not saying Roy needs a nerf, but you really can't afford mess up against a good Roy. That's assuming there IS a Smash 5. Unless someone volunteers to direct the Smash series in Sakurai's absence, DLC will probably be our Smash 5. Sakurai said himself that he's not making another Smash game.So if they follow the tradition they've had since Melee of adding in one or more characters from the latest fire emblem game, who are some likely candidates from fates for Smash 5? Or by that point will they have released a new fire emblem game?

Smash Brothers makes way, way, way to much money for Nintendo not to make a new one. Even if Sakurai doesn't direct it (which is completely understandable) Nintendo will probably get somebody else to do so. I'm confidant that Nintendo can handle keeping a beloved series going even after the person who traditionally lead development has moved on. Or they could take a page out of Capcom's book and ditch the series and justify it by wildly overestimating the sales of other games in development, but that seems unlikely. That's assuming there IS a Smash 5. "(insert franchise here) makes way to much money for (insert company here) not to make another one." We said that same thing about Capcom and Mega Man a while back, now look at him, wishing he could live with Uncle Nintendo to escape from drunk, neglectful, Daddy Capcom. If anybody would take the helm from Sakurai, I imagine it'd be Miyamoto, since he's worked closely with him on all five Smash games.Smash Brothers makes way, way, way to much money for Nintendo not to make a new one. I don't think anyone from Fates is gonna make it FE:If there's gonna be another Smash. There's probably gonna be at least 2-3 more FE releases by then if all goes well with FE.So if they follow the tradition they've had since Melee of adding in one or more characters from the latest fire emblem game, who are some likely candidates from fates for Smash 5? *coughAndWolfcough*they cut characters like Snake, Ice Climbers, Squirtle, Roy, and Ivysaur
Nintendo is (thankfully) not Capcom, and they could handle the situation better then Capcom did. A future Smash game is kinda pointless to speculate on though, I was just curious if any characters from Fates had any Smash worthy potential. Actually, what would be really cool is if one of the characters from that game was put in along with a bunch of other characters as a DLC assist trophy pack, but that's an entirely different subject. He said that they were making Brawl like it was the last one, not that it was the last one. Common mistake.

I'll be perfectly honest, when I saw the full Smash 4 roster for the first time, I didn't even realize he was missing.*coughAndWolfcough*
now go read the zelda socialHello fellow Roy players! I finally finished reading through this entire topic and I figured it's about time to introduce myself after lurking this board for over a week now.
Wanna see this in anecdotal evidence? Look at link. Only people who weren't good got caught in jab1 for a long time and people started calling it "infinite". If you saw any conpetitive link using it they would do it only once or twice before moving to an u-tilt or something. It was good but not amazing or extremely broken but the voice was so loud about it and miss information that it got stripped from him and his usefulness and validity was hurt bad. It's people like the people in this thread saying Roy is ridiculous or whatever that aid in nerfing characters. Really, the character's been out about a week or a bit more and you're already complaining. It's not like Roy is even top tier. You have to be at point blank for Fsmash to even be powerful enough to kill, and to kill at 60-70% you have to be right at the ledge. Do you not realize how difficult this is in actual practice? Especially against the top tier characters. Sheik has needles to stop his grounded approach and fair to stop aerial approaches, and in general can combo Roy to eternity and probably one of his bad matchups. Rosalina has Luma and with customs has the side b, without customs she can still zone him out with Luma and her aerials. Luigi has fireballs and can get 40-50% off one grab, Pikachu is the same thing basically, etc. If Roy managed to get a sweetspot fsmash near the ledge against these characters, they probably deserved it.
I've been saying this since a day or two of his release that he'll probably and inevitably be nerfed thanks to all the complaining of different people.
I don't mind complaining when it's actually needed but give Roy some time goddamn, we still didn't see him do anything in any tournament and we're all basing this off a few matches playing as him/playing against him, and most likely online.
This is Nintendo we're talking about. They WILL do it.I hope they know that a lot of people are contributing to Roy's sales because of his competitive praise, and that they'd be giving anyone who paid for him the finger by nerfing him, taking away from what they originally bought as extra content.
I don't think anyone is complaining about Roy, we're praising him and predicting people's feelings about the character in the future. Nobody here is asking for a nerf. Why would people in the Roy thread be asking for a nerf to Roy anyway? That's kinda silly. We're allowed to talk about our character's strengths and just because we do doesn't mean we want them gone. Besides, you have to admit seeing things like Roy sending Fox to the moon at zero percent is hilarious. It's people like the people in this thread saying Roy is ridiculous or whatever that aid in nerfing characters. If/when we get a new Smash installment (who knows how long that would take), it's quite possible we'll already have some new FE games by then, especially since IS still manages to pump out games (here's hoping the series won't become extinct). So if they follow the tradition they've had since Melee of adding in one or more characters from the latest fire emblem game, who are some likely candidates from fates for Smash 5? I did actually brainstorm a few cool ideas on an FE fighter a while back. I really like the idea of an ArcSys one.If/when we get a new Smash installment (who knows how long that would take), it's quite possible we'll already have some new FE games by then, especially since IS still manages to pump out games (here's hoping the series won't become extinct).
What FE desperately needs is its own fighting game. There's a huge cast of diverse characters and weapons, Smash doesn't really do it justice. Some people would love a Dissidia type game, while others Soul Calibur. Personally, I think ArcSys would be the ones to pull it off quite well (2D sprite-based or something like Xrd).
Or, y'know, a Fire Emblem Warriors game would be nice as well (though I'm a bigger fan of fighting games, especially 2D fighters).
Emblem Warriors would be pretty hype. I don't know how well a turn based strategy game would transition well into a 2d fighter, but I could see a either a 3d fighting game like Dissidia or the aforementioned Emblem Warriors. I think both would need to have a focus on strategic elements though, both to stay true to the series and distance itself from similar games.If/when we get a new Smash installment (who knows how long that would take), it's quite possible we'll already have some new FE games by then, especially since IS still manages to pump out games (here's hoping the series won't become extinct).

And i thought i was the only one who is irritated with the new Roy communityI'm really irritated with the Smash community over Roy's viability.
One of the things people would bring up when I supported him for DLC was "he's weak in FE6 and the worst lord!" (when he's neither and nowhere near worst lord) or "he was terrible in Melee!" (when Mewtwo, Bowser, and Zelda were and they came back) and now people are crying out for him to be nerfed when he has a fair share of bad MU's, there's a good amount of dumber characters running around, his blade's strength is balanced well between Marth and Lucina and addresses his historical issue in Melee with racking up damage and taking stocks, the direct officially revealing him specifically stated that he's a lot stonger this time around, he has a few large weaknesses to offset his large strengths, etc. I think most of all the direct seals my belief that he won't see nerfs.
At least he's in the damn game. There's sets up of him winning GF's in both singles and doubles already so I'm proud of that as well.
Time will tell. I'm just gonna stop worrying about this after venting this here and enjoy what I have now ^_____^

Fire Emblem Warriors would be cool as well. The mounted lords could be similar to characters who rode into battle with horses. I've always seen FE as a perfect fit for a warriors game.
If they work in Smash, and if Dancing All Night works well as a game, I can imagine FE characters working in anything, especially a 2D fighter. Strategic elements can work in any game genre imo.Emblem Warriors would be pretty hype. Lucina (with Marth alt, due to her playstyle being more popular and beginner-friendly while still allowing room for lots of skillful play)Should Roy have his game remade somehow or at least have his game on the VC, he's a lock for the next Smash game for sure.
As for FE representation in Smash 5, I think it would be something like this...
Marth
Ike
Roy
Robin
New FE character that has his/her game released near Smash 5's release
I was going to comment on the target audience not transferring over well from FE to a 2d fighter, but then I couldn't stop laughing after the second part. You, good sir, deserve a medal. However, I must ask how in the world Rightful King could ever work as a special move.If they work in Smash, and if Dancing All Night works well as a game, I can imagine FE characters working in anything, especially a 2D fighter. Lucina (with Marth alt, due to her playstyle being more popular and beginner-friendly while still allowing room for lots of skillful play)
Robin
Female Robin (semi-clone of Robin)
Male Robin (semi-clone of Famel Robin, I made famel as a typo and laughed so hard that I decided to keep it)
Famel Robin (why not)
Chrom (Roy replacement with reckless fighting style but decloned even more with spears a Link/TL shield, and his own version of Aether and Rightful King. Still called a 13th Marth, that's probably how many generations passed between Marth and Chrom anyways so Nintendo gives reasoning on it when he's revealed)
Tharja (Robin replacement)
Owain (Ike replacement, has a Priam alt to acknowledge this)
Severa (doesn't even use her sword, her playstyle revolves around anger and the rage mechanic entirely, replacing Lucario who is just a Mewtwo clone)
The three Awakening children who made it back to Fates (also Ike replacements)
There's like 13 FE reps and half are Robin clones and everyone's a Marth, but nobody cares because the roster is so massive anyways. They put in 13 to celebrate Awakening/FE13's sales and success, and because most FE fans only care about Awakening anyways.
Dissidia was the greatest thing ever for me when it first came out despite me only playing RPG's and not caring much for fighters in general. I originally put several hundred hours into it. I was just happy to see all these FF characters get together with so much love put into them, a cool story around it all and so many little things for the fans like cards, mognet, summons, other references, etc. and Firion being the GOAT with his moveset. He might be where my Roy (strong ground-#based fighting with how hard Shield Bash punishes = how hard Roy's Counter punishes in comparison to others, and how they both have the versatility to be both rushdown and stand-still patient) originally stems from.I was going to comment on the target audience not transferring over well from FE to a 2d fighter, but then I couldn't stop laughing after the second part. Watch us get Fire Emblem: Dancing All Night instead of a FE fighting game or FE Warriors. Here's to hoping those Together We Ride remixes are better than the ones ZeRo uses on his Marth videos and his most recent Roy one. I'd love some sort of FE rhythm game.Watch us get Fire Emblem: Dancing All Night instead of a FE fighting game or FE Warriors. We'll get nightclub remixes of like Together We Ride and stuff.
Rhythm games are the hot new thing baby!!
Also, this is pretty adorable
