Yeah people still play it, but it would probably have a bigger scene if Nintendo wasn't against it.

If it's been a while it might be the translation like you mentioned, but I will admit the plot is very straight forward and it's more of the characters actions then it is about the whole story overall. I still like it better than burning blade's plotI play Roy sometimes for fun in Melee and PM, but not as much as Marth. His counter saved my arse countless times in Melee's eventsHe's way more fun in Smash 4, though. Probably won't overtake Marth again, but I might play him a little more seriously this time around.
I admittedly am not a huge fan of his FE game, but my reasoning goes beyond "Roy sucks because he can't one-shot every enemy". Mostly because I didn't find the plot, writing, and characters as strong or memorable as in other FEs. It's been a while since I played it... might give it another look for the sake of our boy; plus I believe the translation patch has been redone, so I might get more mileage out of the writing next time around too.
Pm is still going, If they are still making patches someone is going to be playing it. I think there will be a day when they truly meet the brick wall known as daddy Nintendo, but even if it doesn't PM will never have a major which is probably why you are confused as to whether or not people still play it

Fair point. Though I don't know. It may just be how new Roy is, but I personally find him more appealing than Luigi or Sheik. Perhaps it's just been so long since we've had an above average sword fighter in a highly competitive scene that the general thought is S4 Roy is as good as Melee Marth. I dunno. Fire is cool.
Roy has always had that "cool" factor going for him, even more so in Smash 4. It's amusing that what might be the best sword user in the game is also the one who likes to fight up close the most, considering the universal nerf to disjointed hit boxes from Brawl to Smash 4 though it's not really surprising. And while fire is cool t3h ph1r3 is awesome.

So out of curiosity... I've been thinking about making one, and there doesn't seem to be one up yet... would anyone be interested in a Roy guide? I've been playing with the character quite a bit to learn how to combat him and I feel I've grasped an understanding of what makes a good Roy.
I'll take you on. Forgive me if I'm playing awful, I'm kind of tired, but to help another player get better I'd do anything.

I sometimes play it. I've played PM since the classic yet rough 2.1. I'm trying to look into more PM characters and see who I enjoy. I might pick up one of the Brawl characters who never made it back so I can take the opportunity to play them whenever I play PM, similar to what I did for Roy. I dislike Squirtle in PM, I have some interest in Ivysaur, I have a lot of interest with Snake but I don't want to take too much time out of sm4sh to learn his gimmicks and general flowchart, I'm garbage with spacies so no Wolf, I have a pocket SoPo I put work into just for the lulz, and I'm not really a fan of playing IC's outside of that. Not really sure who to pick up there. I have a solid Roy/CF that never deteriorate or really rust, but I have Roy in sm4sh and CF in Melee. I don't play Ike/Marth anymore in sm4sh and I've always been good with PM Ness, so I could pick one of them up.
I guess I can stick with learning Ivy basics for now since Ivy is basic in general, work on Snake every now and then until mine is competent, and fall back on Falcon if I enter PM brackets before that to not **** up my sm4sh Roy.
I used to play Ike and Fox in 2.1 and 2.6, then was solo Roy for 3.0 and 3.5, and then Roy got confirmed for sm4sh (at least a sizeable buff from awful low tier with clown car gimmicks to viable swordsman in 1.0.8) so here I am.

Well he was named Mars in an anime movie before he made his international debut in Melee. Also I like Marth, it's a lot more interesting than Mars, and Marth is far from warlike. Also, it doesn't really matter what you call Marth, the sole fact that he wears a tiara takes away all intimidation value.

Actually it's a crown passed down to all Royalty of Ylisse (as it is now known). Nah, it's a Tiara. Doesn't every FE Lord with the exception of Ike wear one? Must be a fashion statement.

Roy had a headband. Now it's a radical headband sporting the colors of some of the manliest men out there (Eliwood, Marcus) in palettes. True OG kush.

No mention of Lyndis? I'll try and think of other FE lords who don't sport tiaras.
EDIT: Valencia lords, Elibe lords (Eliwood has a circlet), Jugdral lords, Magvel lords, Tellius lords, Chrom, Kamui, certainly none of the SMT x FE cast.

Chrom is one as well as the abovementioned Hector, Ike, Lyndis and Roy. Lissa if you count her, though she isn't of the Lord class. Kamui/Corrin from Fates, Eirika, Eliwood, Innes if he counts, Ephraim.

Agreed. Really with how edgy Persona is (with the exception of P4 which took the "friendship saves all" route) seeing any of the characters wear one is great. It's like Roy if he wore ZSS's alternate costumes.

If we ever get a FE6 remake/sequel/whatever, it would be nice if it's explained that Roy's headband has some sort of significance, instead of just being a plain old headband. Needs some epic backstory as to why Roy wears it or somethin'.
