Well I'll be damned. Toon Link showed up after all.

Kind of bittersweet.
On one hand, that shows that when Sakurai said no one had been cut so far, he meant no one had been cut. Things are looking pretty good for Jigglypuff and Snake (though Snake is still a mixed bag).
And this shows that character reveals aren't limited to once a month.

On the other, now that we have a playable Toon Link AND a stage cameo Toon Link, people are going to be more vocal of a playable solid blue Toad and if Ridley does end up being a stage hazard, people can claim that an alternate take on Ridley could be playable instead and they wouldn't be wrong.

So ONCE AGAIN, any sense of predictability has been destroyed.

Well maybe your's and a couple others' assumptions. Not mine. My "assumptions" are no cuts, so we'll see how that flies as the game gets closer to releas yet.
Get off your high horse, that's not what I meant. I was talking about the whole "he's in the background! Deconfirmed!' crap he was going through.

Ideally, none of us wants cuts, but realistically, lets face it, there's always going to be that axe in the background waiting to strike and Sakurai has long since made that clear. I'm just glad Toon Link isn't one of the victims.

Ha HA! Toon Link is revealed! You guys know what this means? You know what this deliciously means?

The characters' priority from Brawl means nothing.

Here we have one of the very last additions in Brawl, now being one of the very first reveals in SSB4. You know what else that means? Folks like Jigglypuff and Wolf aren't hanging over the chopping block as much as some people here used to think. Sakurai's views of character priority do change from game to game, it seems, between the newcomer Villager and the now early Toon Link, meaning that being late in Brawl's files has no standing on who will get in at this point! Awesome!
Just because a character was revealed before others doesn't necessarily mean they were prioritized before others. The game has been in development for over a year and a half, it's entirely possible Sakurai has already added both the initial wave of characters and some of the secondary choices. It's likely the roster is already finalized, even with the later additions. I'm not saying TL was prioritized the same as Brawl, I'm not saying you're wrong in that regard, I'm saying he was chosen for a reason to be unveiled now, and we can't determine from this sole event the general priority from Brawl has shifted, it's not like we know exactly when in the development schedule TL was added this time or in Brawl, all we know for the latter is he was added later.

In regards to how this applies to Jiggs, I still stand by my statement. She won't be cut, but she'll be prioritized last of the Pokemon.

It will either be her or Lucario, but if Sakurai is put into a situation where he has to choose one or the other, Jigglypuff will win out due to her seniority.

I think I'll say it again, Toon Link was easy to develop after Link, so Sakurai could promote Wind Waker HD in time. So we may not expect two newcomers per month, unless it involves clones.

I think you skipped over the words "ONCE AGAIN".
Blah! People are stubborn. They will try to predict the SSB4 roster regardless. No one predicted Wii Fit Trainer and Villager on their rosters... now they are included on their predicted rosters... almost as if they are forced to sacrifice two of their favorite characters for them on their rosters. For example, in this hypothetical situation IF we did get someone new who is extremely unlikely (Duck Hunt Dog)... then everyone would be forced to give up one of their favorite characters to add him on their predicted rosters. It's futile to try to predict the roster... it's better if we just call them our dream rosters instead of our predicted rosters.

Question: Does anyone here actually know how programming works?

Answer: I can tell you all right now that adding Jigglypuff and Lucario into the game before a revamped Mewtwo is easier. I'm not saying he will be cut, but I'm just saying holy hell I wonder a lot here sometimes.

At this point I'll probably be more optimistic about some things. Particularly Jigglypuff returning, and Ridley becoming playable. Though for some reason the idea of Ridley being playable in a game where a stage hazard Ridley also exists sounds more strange to me than the case with the two Toon Links. I guess it's because Conductor Link doesn't doesn't truly affect the stage (at least as far as we know).

Well, there's a reason I called my videos "Wish Roster."

I ask that any time someone tells me that SSB4 will only have 35 characters because of 3DS limitations.

I think maybe in the next two weeks, Sakurai may reveal Jigglypuff, since she's pretty easy to develop and to promote Pokemon X and Y.
Really any Pokemon veteran (Mewtwo, Jigglypuff, Pokemon Trainer, Lucario) could be used to promote Pokemon X/Y, but I think the best one to use (and best hype bringer overall) would be Mewtwo.

The developers surely had alot of time to develop Pokemon Trainer.
So I'm willing to bet on October, 3 characters will be confirmed:
Jigglypuff and Pokemon Trainer to promote Pokemon X and Y.
And Sonic to promote Sonic Lost World.
I absolutely can't wait for October.

Thank you.

By the by, I'm not just talking to Chrono specifically. You all seem vented up with "PRIORITY BEFORE THE END OF THE GAME" - You know, the lease on Brawl is over right? The NDA? You can find someone to talk about it? (At least last I checked it's over)

Anyways, I'm gonna say two things right now:

Ridley being playable - I don't know who's been shown in all the new Smashville shots but let's take note to that as well. If something like, the New Leaf villager shows up, we have even more evidence. Now since they're in different timelines as well, let's say Ridley from the older games is playable and Ridley from Other M is a background. That is possible. However Boss Ridley that was chosen being both, however, is probably not.

I'm also going to say this doesn't clear up Toad much, because Peach still uses the same Toad instead of Toadsworth.

Clones - Before I continue on and write a page of text about clones and toon link, who here actually expected that if Toon Link would return, he would get a different moveset?

Let's stop assuming right now based on the pretty pictures we see and one clone. One clone won't kill the game.

Also, when I have free time, I'm going to novel on about the returning characters of the choices left.

At most we are only getting two characters confirmed in October:
1. A Pokemon character (though technically we get three characters confirmed if Pokemon Trainer is shown)
2. Sonic

I agree we'll probably get a Pokemon character and Sonic in October, but this seems kind of arbitrary. Why 2 Pokemon characters, and why Jiggs?

It's possible, and Sonic would bring in hype like crazy. Honestly, he's probably the only returning veteran that'd actually make people **** themselves.

Pretty much what N3ON said.

EDIT: About Jigglypuff, I mean. Damn ninjas.

Jigglypuff because she's easy to develop, though it might take longer to figure out the special because of the new fairy types.
I probably think we should wait for Jiggs till November so people can warm up to the Fairy type.

In terms of character priority, Toon Link being revealed doesn't change much IMO. Just because he's revealed early, doesn't mean he was prioritized over every other veteran not yet shown, up to and including Yoshi. That said, it's a pretty strong blow against anyone thinking Sakurai will just cut characters on a whim, which is a relief for, say, Wolf fans.

I think the only people that would still **** themselves over Sonic are Sonic fans who don't think he's actually going to be in the game. Which isn't many.

Sure, he'll be positively received for the most part, but he's not really much of a surprise anymore.

Though some people will probably **** themselves over being wrong about returning 3rd parties or *ahem* "guests". :smirk:

I'm not going to get my hopes up for any particular Pokemon.

All I'm expecting is at least one Pokemon rep in October. Which one? No idea. Gonna predict who? No way.

Look, I'm human. I genuinely want Snake to return, but I also want to rub it in the faces of people who told me it was IMPOSSIBLE for him to return.

Same goes for Ridley as a newcomer.

...You weren't here for the Sonic hype, were you?

Trust me, you really don't know. It really is the only veteran that will make people go "AMAZING."

Also Sonic still isn't a lock (Or any third-party character for that matter) since this is the second day of them.

What? Just because she's ready to be shown doesn't mean she will be shown. I bet Yoshi's been ready for a while.

This is baffling logic. Well, she's in the game now, we might as well show her. I guess every character not shown so far isn't finalized yet.

I'm also going to say this doesn't clear up Toad much, because Peach still uses the same Toad instead of Toadsworth.

Blue Toad is the platformer Toad from SMB2 and 3D World. Red Toad is the toad used for most other times.

All the pokemon characters we are talking about seem fairly predictable. I think Pokemon is the best chance for newcomer this year so I hope the Pokemon revealed is not a returning veteran, but a brand new pokemon character.

I guess I won't (and I haven't) count out Toad 100%. However, as I always have, I would find him less likely than Bowser Jr. and less exciting than Paper Mario.

But that's just an opinion.

I still think Toad is our only classically important Mario character who has yet to be playable in SSB.

I'm not saying people won't be excited, most characters cause some people to **** themselves, look at Toon Link. I'm saying Sonic will only have a fraction of the reaction he got the first time (which I was around for, and therefore can hypothesize what the proportionate reaction will be this time). The initial awe is gone, and what remains is his very strong popularity, so he'll be received as a very popular character returning, the reaction will be bigger than for most veterans, but not something earth-shattering like the first time.

I bet more people will go "AMAZING" for Mewtwo.

Blue Toad is the platformer Toad from SMB2 and 3D World.
As well as New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U.

Although Toad is blue in Super Mario Bros. 2, in the artwork he has red spots. Kind of like the whole deal where Link's hair is pink in the actual game to A Link To The Past, but a blondish color in all the artwork to it.

Again, I think there are too many options to easily predict which Pokemon will be revealed in October.

Heck, for all we know we could even get a trailer for every single remaining Pokemon rep, or at least a few.

If we get a Mewtwo reveal though I wouldn't surprised if there was a trailer for her/him.
