Roster Prediction Discussion Thread

Lip seems possible, but there are many characters people'd rather see in before her. A quick question: How unrealistic are 4 3rd parties? We have Megaman confirmed, and Sonic is pretty much a Shoe-in, so Pac may not make it unless he replaces Snake, which I don't want to happen.

Hard to tell. it's unfair to remove one character if you leave the rest, and Sonic has no reason to leave other than being third-party. Then again Snake really screams "one time character"

I guess so, but if we have Takamaru we don't need another. I guess I can't say Lip is any worse than Sheriff.

You could argue half of the characters that have ever been in Super Smash Bros. are random and obscure. You'd be amazed by how many people don't recognize a large portion of the characters in Super Smash Bros.

It does seem like she's got some pretty solid moveset potential. Even if you ignored all of the block mechanics, she's still a fairy queen with all the powers that entails. Leaves a lot of room for the Smash creators to get creative.

All that being said, yeah, I don't really care about her at all.

Anybody could qualify as DLC I suppose, but the problem would be seeing if people would want to pay to play as her. She might be safer in the actual roster before DLC.

Not really.

Mario and Luigi have fireballs, and theres a fire flower item.

Samus can use the screw attack, and the screw attack is an item.

I'd rather have Bubbles from Clu Clu Land as a retro rep.

If they could make a moveset for the Ice Climbers, I don't see how they couldn't do one for Bubbles.

Guys, let's cool it on the DD bashing. Why he may enrage you to the point of no return, let's keep this clean and friendly. Smashboards is accessible to everyone; including DD. He may turn around at some point but enraging the guy further does more harm than good; for the site, the users, and DD himself.

As for Lip, I wouldn't mind seeing her in the game. She could have puzzle-like attacks or using her power to create large flora. I believe the Retros have an untapped power to be extremely unique and fun.

Take Takamaru. Not only is he a Samurai but he can throw ninja stars, use fire spells, and vanish in thin air!

Then Mach Rider. Falcon close? THINK AGAIN! He could easily incorporate his motorcycle into his move set which would definitely be cool.

Sheriff...while he may seem white and uninteresting....he could use a wide variety of tools such as a pea shooter, a lasso, and maybe even a horse.

Mike Jones. While I unfamiliar with the guy, shinhed-echi can definitely fill a book of what the guy an do.

And while I don't get all excited about Muddy Mole as Opossum does, he would be extremely interesting by using the terrain as attacks.

The Retro choices this time around are extremely interesting and I personally think that we should have more than one Retro this time around.

No, but nothing is stopping Sakurai from picking Lip over Takamaru. Or Takamaru over Lip. Or Muddy Mole over either of them, etc.

My point is that just because we, as the community, established that Takamaru makes a lot of sense in the new game it doesn't mean it's going to happen. Wii Fit Trainer and Mr. Game and Watch are examples of that.

That's why comparing retros is tough to do because everyone is so sure it's Takamaru, but it still could be anybody.

Agreed, but not Mr. Game & Watch, though not expected at the time it seems like an obvious addition given how classic Game & Watch games are along with the Game & Watch Gallery installments.

It's amazing how much the thread has slowed down since King DeDe abdicated. I can actually read people's opinions it's such a novelty.

One thing I will say for Lip is with the whole home/portable angle Sakurai is going for with stages, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a few more portable favourites. Lip and Muddy have been mentioned but there's also Isaac and others. at least one or two new portables would make sense when the series makes its first move to handhelds.

I could easily see both Lip and Takamaru in the same game. And with Little Mac in the fray as well, the Captain Rainbow cast will be reunited. (I really doubt Trixie could make it into the roster).

I don't think RETRO characters have to be limited to one or two. What if they're 5 of them? And just how old can be considered retro at this point? Snes? N64?

I don't think they would, simply because Nintendo didn't create these characters.
Also, well... a lot of the Sonic characters are kind of dumb. There are literally thousands of species they could pick for new main characters, yet they keep going for "different colored hedgehog"? C'mon. It'd be like if the Mario series decided to make every new character a plumber.

i think if Nintendo had bought them out as soon as tomorrow, it overall would be to late for Sakurai to add a lot of them to the roster. i think its pretty safe to assume that Sakurai has already chosen the roster for the most part. that said it would probably cement Sonic's return. he could maybe add one of those other guys as an easy clone if need be but really i could only see Sonic making it

I know you guys are going to have disagreements with this roster, so I made a "No-Cuts" roster to go with it.

Pointers:

Medusa - I'm aware that even 2 KI reps seems unlikely, but I she seems like an obvious semi-clone and would complete the main characters of the over all KI franchise.

Pac-Man - I still think he's not that great of an addition. However seeing his arcade self would be cool.

Genesect - If a newcomer Pokemon is necessary, which it may or may not be, Genesect seems the most logical as Zoroark is just a "Lucario Wanna Be". Genesect is heavily promoted by Pokemon and seems pretty popular.

Removals - "I do not greatly assure the removal of any character."

Enough GoldenYu... anyways, have you seriously SEEN the game? Probably not, because you're you, aren't you, but from what I seen in the Virtual Console trailer, all you do is fight dogs and rats, giant piles of puke, and play as children going around to different neighborhoods. HOW is that empowering to someone playing a video game? Mario and Zelda EMPOWER you... this does not. It's too decidedly average. But of course, because you get butt-hurt over ANYTHING I say... I'll just stop here.

if they were never invented as Sega characters and were made by Nintendo then yeah the series would probably have about as equal representation as Mario, Zelda etc. in which case i would say Sonic, Tails, Eggman and Knuckles.

and as a side note would probably have way better games
