Maybe one veteran and one newcomer each month? Dah, what am I saying.

I doubt two a month. Sakurai may want to kkeep a few characters hidden.

But maybe now and then well get two. Who knows?

But here's hoping for a Smash Direct very soon. That will be when the characters are revealed.

As far as character reveals, if we get a character, it will have to be a veteran that could be easily tied to the game. Like Luigi and Olimar, it is likely that it will say, "Want to know more about X? Visit the official website for ____".

So considering Pikachu is already revealed, I'd put my money on Pokémon Trainer, or Mewtwo. Lucario could also be there, but like I said, it will have to be a character that is central to the advertisements of each series and the specific installment. So I doubt we'll see Jigglypuff.

I'd like to see Wonder Red, as Wonder 101 looks like it will be great. But if he isn't revealed around the release of the game, i'm doubting his inclusion. For September, I think it's anyone's game. Although, I'd like to think it will be a character from a series not shown yet, veteran OR newcomer. So Fire Emblem, Mother, Yoshi, Wario, a retro character...etc...

Also, whoever thought of a Nintendo Direct that will encompass 2014 releases is a genius. It makes perfect sense that they would do that, and have another trailer for newcomers. I'm hoping we get more before then, but I would have to agree with that prediction.

I think the "one character a month" thing is ridiculous. Sakurai revealed about 2 a month for brawl, and although he may not be revealing as much this time around, to assume once a month for the rest of the year just seems a little off, unless we get constant info dumps throughout 2014.

Wind Waker does come out at the end of September in Japan... but personally I doubt we get any Smash tie-in from it.

I doubt we'll be seeing the game for about a solid year from now. That's still twelve characters going at the one a month pace... which means we'd know about thirty before launch. It seems reasonable to me.

Not sure on the first note, but I have to say I'd rather have Toad over Paper Mario.

I'd prefer Bowser Jr. over any new Mario rep though.

I think it all depends on the release date. When Brawl was originally announced it was a good year before the newcomers arrived. However I think with 2014 being the target launch, and considering we've received information at a much quicker pace this time around I can honestly see big announcements in the next few months and definitely a few before year's end.

From memory Smash was announced May 2006 and the first newcomers outside the original five were July 2007. The dojo wasn't up for months after announcement as well. All this leads me to suspect a faster diffusion of information this time around.

Eh... we may see Princess Zelda.

I think it's more like they save her for A Link Between Worlds, especially since that Zelda will probably be closer to the Zelda we get in Smash, but yeah, it's not outside the realm of possibility, though I'm not counting on it obviously.

We've only gotten veteran reveals post E3, so there really is no pattern to base our logic off of. However, I find it hard to believe that we aren't going to get ANY new characters in the coming months, as those would be the biggest tools in Sakurai's arsenal to boost hype for the game.

Sakurai has mentioned how much he'd like to avoid doing things like the Dojo again, seeing how he didn't enjoy that experience and he feels it gave too much away.

One character a month is probably the most reasonable, since then we get a fair view of veterans and a couple more newcomers, and then still have a decent amount of info to pace out reveals for more than a year.
Also, consider that Brawl was supposed to come out on December 3, 2007, and the dumps of info regarding characters really picked up starting on August of that year, with three newcomers revealed that month. That was only four months before the game was supposed to come out, and then it was delayed.

Given that they don't know the release date yet (assuming November/December 2014), I really really doubt he'd give away a lot of characters right now. I think it's fair to expect mostly veterans until next E3, perhaps with one or two newcomers in between. I'm hoping this Septermber is when we see one of them, and the next one probably in January or so.

I seem to remember, taking Brawl as a precedent, the newcomer reveals just happening. I woke up one day and they were just there. Ike, Diddy and Pokemon Trainer coming in quick succession. I think we'll get something similar with a character plus specific trailer hitting when we least expect it.

True, but I do believe there are some charactes with some unique moveset potential. Bowser Jr. is the first one to come to my head.

Given Mewtwo's current popularity and such, I wouldn't be shocked if he decides to give a Mewtwo reveal (with a new form) around Pokemon X and Y's release, and doesn't show any newcomers until at least January.

Exactly. It was more so your previous trollish behavior and the entire "I'm right, your wrong" mentality which just rubbed me the wrong way. That is what I held and, in some cases, still hold against you. However, I actually find myself agreeing with some of your posts. You have improved the quality of your posts, as a debater, and as a member of these forums.

As for a 5th Mario character, I am on the fence on it. I would say its a 50/50 chance we might get one. However, if we do, I am pretty open to it being: Bowser Jr., King Boo, Toad,, Rosalina, Paper Mario, or Waluigi.

I do agree. Mewtwo will most likely end up with his regular form.

I don't know about Lucario. While he has been consistent since DP, I do realize now he's just being advertised to show off mega-evolutions. Kinda the same with jigglypuff.

I'm still in the high bar theory side of things when it comes to Mario and Zelda. Honestly I'd say we're perfectly represented as it is, we only got Dr. Mario by accident anyway.

Yeah pretty sure mewtwo is going to be in his regular form but I dont see how this advertisment and relevance doesent help Lucario's chances...

I wouldn't be surprised if he missed the boat at all. Apparently during brawl he wasn't even important enough for Assist trophy status. I'm not sure there's been much of a significant jump.

I've always thought Mewtwo would only appear in his original form though something I thought of yesterday with all the new mega-evolution stuff floating around, was his mega form being his final smash. That way both versions get in the game and it follows more closely how mega-evolutions happen in X and Y.

Judging character chances based on if they were ATs previously isn't the best way of going about things. By that logic a character like Helirin would have a better shot than K. Rool.

Of course there was a significant jump. At the time of Brawl's release, Bowser Jr. had only appeared in one main Mario title and a couple of spin-off titles, Super Mario Galaxy not being taken into account as it was intended for a release after Brawl before the delay. Ever since then, he's become a recurring character in every main Mario title excluding 3D Land, continuously shows up in the spin-off titles as well as the RPG series, and has really made his mark on the Mario series. It's sure is a hell of a lot better than "Your princess is in another castle".

I meant to imply that a character who is certain to make it in and also has existed since before brawl would at least have a larger presence in the last game.
