Ivysaur has very little popularity as a pokemon...
So what? Squirtle and Bulbasaur do and Charizard is the most popular. NO character gets a free pass. You still have yet to suggest a pokemon popular enough of representing Blue. One that overshadows Eevee, Genesect, and Lucario.

Alright, question time.

Has anyone wondered if Nester, from Howard and Nester, is a bit more likely now? As the TRUE WTF character for SSB4?
Because at least Wii Fit Trainer comes from a successful Wii franchise, but Mr.G&W was a handheld, and ROB was a peripheral...
Nester's WTFness would be the fact that he was Nintendo Power's mascot.

.... and the Pilotwings stage would represent him sort of well, since he want by the alias Lark in Pilotwings 64.

Also... Nester also had a bowling game. Could share a certain special with Villager.
No, not for a single solitary second. No offense, but that's the worst idea for a character I've ever heard. And you even questioned if he was likely.

...Why don't you like Pilotwings?
I didn't say that. It's just unbelievable that people think just because of a stage that a character from Pilotwings would be playable!

Umm....

Wuhu Island =/= Pilotwings Stage.
Wuhu Island has existed before Pilotwings Resort.

Cuz Wii Fit Trainer.
You're kidding, right?

The Metroid series isn't really well-known for its distinguished characters. I doubt IF we get Ridley, we'll see another one at all.
Having a Bounty Hunter would be awesome, preferably Sylux

This begs to differ http://www.ign.com/top/pokemon

Alakazam is top 20, pidgeot is 67, rydon is 84, aerodactyl is 54, arcanine is 12, machamp is 94, tyranitar is 9. These are all blues Pokemon and are very popular, he is the second most Iconic trainer in pokehistory and is reds rival.

That poll was run very differently then the typical as it used a "vote for the favorite out of the two" system meaning that many Pokemon could have many repeat votes. On top of that, there was a glitch in the system so certain Pokemon shown up more then others.

Its still pretty accurate.

Not really, because only are a certain subset of Pokemon are getting the votes, on top of that to feasibly vote for a good selection of the Pokemon you'd have to run the system at least 100 times presuming the glitch doesn't screw it up. To be honest, I'm amazed that Pokemon like Reshiram, Rayquaza and Zekrom did so well considering all of the factors against them.

Show me a better large scale recent poke poll then because I cant think of one.

Of course not, quite the opposite actually (same with Zekrom and Reshiram btw). :p

Just because there isn't one doesn't make IGN's a good reference, it's still poorly run and structured no matter how you look at it.

Well its the best source we have so there, if you cant provide a better one then its the one Im sticking to, also you would have to prove your allegations towards the poll as well. (even though it is entirely possible.)

Blue's inclusion could be dependent on if we get another pokemon trainer (which I highly doubt) and its not like we need it anyway. I think we'll get Pikachu,Jiggs, PT, and a a 5th gen pokemon, and maybe Lucario, although I'm not too confident about him returning at all.

I could get behind a "Pokemon Rival" as a character... He could use different starters.

I also HIGHLY doubt we would get another Pokemon Trainer. I highly doubt the original will be returning. I actually have some confidence for Lucario. His attributes were unique, I don't think Sakurai would want to lose that.

So we have to take a flawed source just because it's the only one? Ok.

Lets see:
-You have to run the poll multiple times to get a good subset of Pokemon? True, there are 649 Pokemon and you have only a choice of 2 each time.
-There was a glitch in the system? http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/f313/opinions-ign-coms-top-100-pokemon-list-106990/ has some post documenting it. For more direct ones:

Terezi Pyrope;3109323 said:
Well if I'm being honest, the way the voting system was set up was kinda crappy. I saw some Pokemon over and over, and some I didn't even see once, which has to contribute to the order of the list.
Paragon;3109359 said:
This list seems more like a "100 popular Pokemon in no particular order" to me. It really wasn't a very well thought out way of making a poll, since people were restricted to a certain number of options. What they got was a list that reveals 100 Pokemon that are popular (well, most of them), but they're not in any order of greatness. I was happy to see that all the evos of my favorite Pokemon are on there, but that's probably just because my favorite Pokemon (Cyndaquil) happens to be a starter.

Even with its problems all the popular ones made it in I still say its good source to turn too although not perfect.

Except what's popular is influenced by how the system works and how the choices are randomized. Everything's at the mercy of the system and it's entirely possible for someone to not get their favorites and/or get others they don't care about. I'm not going to lie and say that Pokemon like Charizard and Mewtwo aren't popular but I'm not going to put stock in a system that has a very flawed method.

If we do get another Pokemon Trainer, maybe the third Gen. female trainer, May or fourth gen Champion, Cynthia. Blue is cool, but I feel we had all the important gen ones (except for Eevee) in Smash. I like May for options such as the starters, Gardevoir, Metagross and etc. All popular pokemon. It's also pretty obvious Cynthia's the most well known champion besides Red and Blue. She can use Lucario (please don't argue on this choice), Garchomp, Glaceon, and etc. This is just my opinion, though.

Guys, the IGN source said Lugia was a water type. That aside, it was not a good method of gauging popularity. A tournament bracket or something else would of been much more reliable, and glitches in the system don't exactly help reliability.

No.

A tournament bracket may help decide what pokemon are competitively viable but not overall popularity.

Charizard is terrible competitively, does that mean he isn't popular?

I'd say Lance is a more popular champion. I also don't like the idea of a PT not using starter pokemon. Or pokemon that are all in their final stage of evolution at that.

I've not visited this thread in a week, and wow, this thread has moved a lot.

I'm seeing a lot of reporting of DivineDeity's posts from this thread. I don't want to hand out an infraction on the very day I become a mod, so Mr. DivineDeity, do see this post as a warning.
Congrats!

Just leave the Pokemon roster the way they are. If for some reason Pokemon Trainer gets cut, I'd be fine with seeing Charizard as a solo character.

A tournament to vote who was more popular? Just because it was a bracket doesn't mean it's for competitive viability.

There are only 3 trainers that are iconic enough to maybe make it in. Blue first, then Cynthia and then N, Lance would probably be a good choice as well but honestly Blue is the only one worthy as he is reds rival.

On the topic of a 4th Metroid rep (counting ZSS), Dark Samus, to me, seems the most viable choice. She is important to the Metroid franchise and, while could be just a clone; she does have the potential to being her own unique character.

Id say the 3 pokemon chosen would need to be devolved or have different weight classes such as reds pokemon were done, Id think they would be 3 different types as well so that havnt been used in game to show of different styles, they could do it and it would be awesome.

If we are getting another Pokémon Trainer.... I hope it's Team Rocket... where two Rocket Grunts who look suspiciously similar to Jessie and James stay in the background... and they take turns sending out Arbok and Weezing to team up with Meowth.

I would love for them to be in the problem is they arent main characters of the video games... not counting yellow as it stole stuff from the show.

We already have Pokémon Trainer Red who happens to have all three starters... this wasn't possible without trading... and the only way it's possible without trading is only in Pokémon Yellow... and it was based off the anime.

I think Sakurai can get around the no-anime rule if the characters are already owned by Nintendo.

But red actually owns all the pokemon he uses and is from the games...

Tbh, I never really cared much for Mudkip.
It's really a mesh joke.
His expression=response to comment
Mudkip love=person he's representing

I like Mudkips, and he's one of the 3 hoenn beginners. You already nominated Grovile and Blaziken, so why not Mudkip and add it to the HPKMT roster?
