Wii Sports Club releases on Wednesday... Namco is developing that game too...

Think we'll see Mii this time?

Whoa, Namco Bandai is developing Wii Sports Club? This just makes the leak more obvious.
How many times do I have to say that there's no correlation between Namco Bandai developing Nintendo games and having Namco Bandai characters in the game?! So ****ing what if Namco Bandai is developing Wii Sports Club?! What correlation does this have to do with the leak and Smash 4?

Do people never truly learn?! NAMCO BANDAI DEVELOPING NINTENDO GAMES =/= NAMCO BANDAI CHARACTERS IN SMASH 4

HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY, FOR ****'S SAKE?!

Sorry I overreacted, but I am tired of seeing this nonsense about Namco Bandai and the supposed leak. I swear if Namco Bandai wasn't developing the game, people wouldn't make such absurd claims... >_>

I only want to see Pac-Man, Sonic, Mario, and Megaman in the same game, that's probably one of the reasons why.
This would be something that happens once in a lifetime, having all 4 videogame icons battle one another.

Just because Namco is helping developing the game doesn't mean that they will get a character. They're getting paid for developing, nothing more, they're but workers under the supervision of Nintendo, and it's still up to Sakurai in the end.

Furthermore, Namco developing a totally different game has 0 impact on Smash Bros. It's a totally different department of Namco who works on Wii Sports Club than the Smash Bros department first off, they likely have little to no communication with each other, it's like different classes on a school. Secondly, it's still Nintendo's game, and as long as they own it Namco has nothing to say about where else the content of the game could appear, they're simply the ones making it, they have no say in advertising it, promoting it or the characters they're working with.

When a big company comes to you and ask whether you want to develop one of their big franchises, you don't say "Yes, but we have to get something in return" you immediately say yes and go with the criterias. Namco is getting tons of money from just having their name on the product, no way in hell they said that they'd only develop it if they got something in return, they'd be the stupidest company in the business to say that to Nintendo regarding such a big franchise as Smash Bros.

And in the end, it's also Sakurai who we deal with. Sakurai is a man of principles, when Iwata asked whether he wanted to develop Brawl or not, Sakurai put one criteria on it: The game has to be built from the Gamecube Controller and not motion controls, otherwise Sakurai wouldn't make it. If Namco said that they wanted something in return, colliding with Sakurai's current ideas and plans, he'd have turned them down.

If Pac-Man is in, then it's because Sakurai wanted him in the game in the first place, and not because Namco co-developed it.

At least, I have the common sense to know that a company can develop another company's game without having to include their IPs. >_>

Explain how Namco Bandai developing Wii Sports Club has to do with Sakurai putting Pac-Man in the game. Sounds like another case of people looking too much into things.

Sakurai even stated that Namco characters wouldn't get priority despite Namco Bandai Games developing the game. Tales producer Yoshi.to Higuchi even stated that Tales characters (and to an extent, any of Namco Bandai characters) would only get in if Sakurai wanted to do so.

So no, there's absolutely no correlation with Namco being the developer and Namco putting characters from the game. Namco Bandai was hired for the games' development and nothing more. Once again I state that the Pac-Man and Tales support only became widespread thanks to Namco Bandai being the developer.

Also, what Wariofan1 said. I agree with everything he stated.

I'll destruct this one by one, though I do agree with some parts. Wariofan gets an A, Wraith gets a B-.

Just because Namco is helping developing the game doesn't mean that they will get a character. They're getting paid for developing, nothing more, they're but workers under the supervision of Nintendo, and it's still up to Sakurai in the end.
No, it's not Sakurai. I've said this several times; it's up to animators and programmer's as well. Don't you think sometimes they say "This character is a waste, we can't do it on our engine"? I'm not sure if that's really as much of a problem for this game, but the Wii and N64 were underpowered for their gen and even the GCN proves that this stuff happens.

wii sports club
I'll agree with you wii sports club doesn't really change that much. It's like saying Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games changed a lot when it really didn't - It was the fan stuff.

When a big company comes to you and ask whether you want to develop one of their big franchises, you don't say "Yes, but we have to get something in return" you immediately say yes and go with the criterias. Namco is getting tons of money from just having their name on the product
...Are you also on the boat that thinks developers get a lot more money than they actually do or do I not have to debunk that as well?

But let's clear something up: Namco isn't going to get tons of money. Unless this game pulls in higher sales than all the other Smash's and this game doesn't have as much, Namco won't get that much. It's Lead Programmer's/Animators/Project Leads (Which is what Sakurai is) and Publishers that get money. Which is one thing I don't think Namco's actually doing on this game (Yet at least) which is publishing.

If they are publishing, it's a different story, but even then, the publishers will get a lot of money. Let's be clear here: They'll break even, not break something amazing. A lot of any extra money (assuming they have that) will go towards funding other games. It leaves them in a good position, not a particularly great one. That's the business of Game Design; I've studied it for years and I'm in the field of it.

Finally, of course nobody (Unless the deal is bad) holds them by the balls like that, but it doesn't not get mentioned either. They don't feel the loyalty when working there to not mention it at all just because they might break even. Though, to be frank, chances are nobody even had the right to say anything like that and negotiate first because the game was just in drafting (They were brought on pretty early, iirc). Saying something like that in drafting is absurd even if it is a sequel, it's like "WHAT WE NEED IN THIS GAME IS A FINAL BOSS AS A SHOE" in a world where shoe's don't exist. Actually wait, that might not be a bad idea

Also, to counter, companies always want some sort of promotion when working on something. It's not that they have a desire need for it, it's that they see it as a win for everyone. It happens all the time, not even just in games.

Granted, the problem with assuming such is we don't know how much Namco is working on the game. All we know is they're probably helping the other team out with online, what else? Zip. If they're publishing though, I assure you the publisher's on Namco's side will at least have brought it up once.

If Pac-Man is in, then it's because Sakurai wanted him in the game in the first place, and not because Namco co-developed it.
YOU MEAN EXACTLY LIKE SONIC?
OR MEGA-MAN?
MAN SAKURAI WAS SO INTERESTED IN THOSE CHARACTERS

I'll agree that First-Party the process is a ***** so just because a studio is interested in their character means almost nothing, because let's face it, anyone who's made a somewhat hit nintendo IP probably wants their character, but when it's third-parties we are playing a different game.

If Pac-Man isn't in the game it'll probably be for some other reason that'll make sense and be explained, not because they find him boring or can't create a moveset.

(By the by, I'm not even a Pac-Man supporter)

At least, I have the common sense to know that a company can develop another company's game without having to include their IPs. >_>
No, what is common sense is that crossovers advertise in some way shape or form, all the time. They want long term benefits as well as short term benefits.

Explain how Namco Bandai developing Wii Sports Club has to do with Sakurai putting Pac-Man in the game. Sounds like another case of people looking too much into things.
I'll totally agree with you on that one. I don't know where people are getting this skew-headed logic, especially when Namco... I can't even remember when Namco had good relations. People should really stop on this. The leak, and anything else related to it, is just as likely as it was before.

Sakurai even stated that Namco characters wouldn't get priority despite Namco Bandai Games developing the game. Tales producer Yoshi.to Higuchi even stated that Tales characters (and to an extent, any of Namco Bandai characters) would only get in if Sakurai wanted to do so.
well of course namco characters aren't going to get priority over Nintendo characters, they're a totally different field, go through totally different legal loopholes aka existing (which actually might make some of the Tales characters hard to get, among others), and they shouldn't take over the roster. There also shouldn't be more than one just because they're working on the game. Actually, better example

"Hmm, we don't want to stuff the roster, Bowser Jr or Pac-Man?"
"Pac-Man. Namco gets priority even though they're right now equals to us mostly anyways!"
"GOGOGO"

So no, there's absolutely no correlation with Namco being the developer and Namco putting characters from the game. Namco Bandai was hired for the games' development and nothing more.
NO Correlation?

Look, there's a HUGE different between NO correlation and NOT a shoe-in. Not a shoe-in means that the character isn't 100%, which we've seen time and time again, which is fine to say (Hell, even I can't say what's 100%) but saying there's no correlation despite there clearly being correlation and benefits from both parties really makes me question.

Once again I state that the Pac-Man and Tales support only became widespread thanks to Namco Bandai being the developer.
You weren't around for NSider were you

That's all I've got. John and I have said this over and over (along with some people here) - Pac was put a lot higher than a lot of ridiculous stuff, just lower than Sonic and Mega-Man.

Namco characters won't get priority, I think it just means there won't be tons of Namco characters in the game just because Namco Bandai is making it. Namco would probably only get one character to represent their company, and that's simply Pac-Man.

The updates this month have SUCKED.

You know, I get it. Sakurai can do what he wants, but if you aren't going to release characters, give us some actually interesting information.

"Here's your tenth picture of Link and Toon Link"
"Here's Villager and Wii Fit Trainer jumping around"

Seriously, what? This is crap. Don't even give me that "we should be lucky we get anything at all" because that's nonsense. We get the updates to build hype, which is necessary. We're going on a fourth week without something substantial. It sucks.

I'm going to bet we don't get anything this week. But if we don't get anything the week after, then there is a definite problem. We got Peach, Toon Link, and Sonic (well Toon Link and Sonic) fairly close to each other, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't get another one for an entire month.

EDIT: THIS IS HOW I FEEL RIGHT NOW Super-Saiyan.gif

Well think about it, I think that an original character would take about a month to improvise and balance the character. They probably are taking the time to balance one character a time. I think Sonic was hype enough.

I call bull**** on that one. What part of "It's up to Sakurai what characters get in or not" you didn't understand?

Once again I state: Namco Bandai was hired for the game's development. Even Namco people stated that character selection was up to Sakurai. It's Sakurai and Nintendo that have a word whether or not a Namco Bandai character is included.

Also, Sonic and Mega Man were chosen by Sakurai because he knew those were popular characters. If Pac-Man is going to be a character, it will be because of fan demand, not because of Namco Bandai being the developers.

NO Correlation?

There's no correlation. Did you see anything regarding Game Arts in Brawl? Any advertisement? That alone should render your argument void.
Why would Namco Bandai suddenly get special treatment regarding this aspect?

Namco Bandai is getting paid for this game whether they include Pac-Man or not. They could make the game without lending their IPs and still profit from Smash 4's development.

You know what's nonsense? Being upset about something so trivial and petty, and letting it ruin your hype. You control your level of hype, and if it's being lowered because of these things, then it is simply the individual being reactive instead of proactive.
I don't depend on Sakurai for my hype, he merely supplements it. I create the hype when I control myself.
To get all hippy for a moment: each picture is a unique snowflake, have we seen those exact characters doing that exact frame of animation in that exact position on that exact stage at that exact camera angle? Non.

Well, I don't particularly agree about the updates being that bad. I suppose some were a bit boring compared to some other months. We did get both Toon Link and Sonic revealed relatively close to each other. And with Toon Link confirmed, it might bode well for the other "likely" cuts. Though the only worrying thing is whether or not we'll more newcomers. Soonish, I'd like to see one or two more at some point.
Also, the gifs not working so.......

I'm not sure if that's really as much of a problem for this game, but the Wii and N64 were underpowered for their gen and even the GCN proves that this stuff happens.
Of course you gotta take limitations into consideration too. Sakurai can't just come up to Namco and tell them to make anything, but that isn't a trait unique to Namco at all, every animator/modeller/programmer would say that. Furthermore, that doesn't really mean Pac-Man is more plausible than other characters, which was the subject at hand.

Finally, of course nobody (Unless the deal is bad) holds them by the balls like that, but it doesn't not get mentioned either. They don't feel the loyalty when working there to not mention it at all just because they might break even. Nintendo does hold Namco by the balls in this project. They're working with their characters and IPs. Namco is much like hired guns for this project, they've been hired to code, model, program, compose and what not, but they're still under strict supervision. They're just there to do their job, and as it seems their job isn't to suggest characters or stages, they're there to do what I mentioned earlier, and supposedly also help with balance and movesets according to Sakurai, but they most definitely won't get a say in what characters will appear on the roster, they are under the foot of Nintendo in this project.

Why would Namco go with such a deal? Because there's still a big paycheck. And I'm not talking about when the game releases and gets ripped off the shelves by costumers, though I can see them having a thing or two to do with publishing the game too, but Namco and their employees are getting paid for developing the game as we speak, and rest assured that the paycheck that the employees and the company's bank get from Nintendo isn't small. Plus, in general it's just great having your name on a Smash Bros game, makes for good advertisement, Nintendo will likely consider them for even more projects in the future, and other companies will look out for Namco in the future too.

YOU MEAN EXACTLY LIKE SONIC?
OR MEGA-MAN?
MAN SAKURAI WAS SO INTERESTED IN THOSE CHARACTERS
Yeah, Sakurai didn't seem all too interested in Sonic, considering he was just added because of the huge demand, but he does acknowledge Mega Man as worthy and a very good addition. Sakurai himself doesn't even need to be interested in the characters, like he says himself, a 3rd party character has to be of legendary status, which is why many of us see Pac-Man as the only other option, I'm pretty sure he can see besides his own opinion on characters and add them for the sake of novelty. Not that I support Pac-Man, but that seems to be the case. The only problem Pac-Man really faces is that he doesn't have nearly the same demand as Sonic or Mega Man.

Anyways, I choose to believe Sakurai when he says that Namco doesn't receive any bonus in their representation, if they're even getting any. Though I'm certainly expecting Pac-Man, it's not like I'm trying to debunk his chances, I just think that Sakurai's wording regarding 3rd parties, and him having discussed Pac-Man with an interviewer, plus the supposed leak, all seems to be pointing heavily at Pac-Man. I just don't think his possible inclusion is just because of Namco working on the game.
