I was just looking at the old Brawl Geno thread.
Wow, Geno was really popular back then.
Why did everyone believe that a one-off character like Geno could make it into a game for Nintendo's Biggest All-Stars?

Edit: And in addition, why did everyone support him so much? How did his popularity explode just like that?

That is a question that I do not have the answer to. I am just as curious. It makes no sense, whatsoever. Maybe people were even more unintelligent back then (hard to believe).

Sometimes I wish I was around during the Pre Brawl days, just to experience Geno & the Clouds.

Here. I might replace Diskun with Starfy. So beside that possible future change nothing different. I'm thinking about finding an artist to draw an icon of Diskun actually moving his limbs as to disprove the common belief that he's never been able to move. But, this is the best icon I have for now.

No, really, you don't. The clouds is a big mark of shame for us Brawl speculators for everyone to laugh at. And Geno, well, I wasn't a supporter or a detractor, but I remember people saying "No way this game is shipping without Geno." People becoming delusional that he was important and had a shot is pretty funny looking back, but it was convincing somehow.

Trust me, you don't wish to have been there, it was pretty crazy, and not in the good way. We knew little of Sakurai's methods, heck, the Melee roster was pretty wacky, so we weren't sure what to expect at all, so there were a lot of weird character suggestions that were taken seriously. Plus, you didn't get to experience the vile Sonic fanbase, so lucky you.

People will look back on us Smash 4 speculators and think that we are psychotic too. It is inevitable.

I mean hey, everyone thinks that Little Mac or Palutena are some of the most likely candidates. If none of them got in, people would look back and wonder why we ever thought that they were the most likely characters. Haha.

Well, I'm an amateur cartoonist. I'll do anything to get my work out there, and as of now, "out there" is my school.
That's the only place people know of my artistic talents, besides home of course.

Probably Little Mac, because he seems like my kind of character, and I happen to be a humongous Punch Out fan.
Paper Mario, K. Rool, Ridley, and Palutena are the other ones I would love to see, but I would probably end up MAINING Mac.

Well, all the newcomers revealed seem interesting. Out of potential newcomers, the ones I would want to play first as are:
1. K. Rool
2. Pacman
3. Ridley
4. New Mario Character as long as it is not Bowser Jr.
5. The rest

Mewtwo if he counts, which he probably doesn't.

I would say Bowser Jr. or Toad (I'd main either of them), Palutena, Toon Zelda, try with Ridley, Ashley which would never happen ever but would still be awesome, and Starfy.

If you understand the core of the statement, then you shouldn't be questioning a point irrelevant to it.

Despite Namco's assistance, Sakurai is not obligated to include one of their characters, not even Pac-Man.
He can just as easily not include him or any of their characters, as the purpose for Namco being there is to make the gameplay the best that it can due to their expertise in the fighting genre.
Pac-Man would just be an easily implemented side bonus should Sakurai decide upon it, as that decision falls squarely on his shoulders, not Namco's (as Harada and Yosh-ito have brought up in regards to their franchises, Tekken and Tales).

That is what I was saying. Namco "being the only reason Sakurai would even consider Pac-Man" is irrelevant to my statement (and is false in itself).
