Fair enough. I think she deserves to be in, but she certainly has drawbacks. But, I don't think Zelda/Link being crappy would have any correlation with how good T. Zelda/T. Link are in the game. The Toon characters don't have to be better by default, Link and Zelda are already crappy as is.

Sure I would love for Zelda and Link to be more competitively viable, but I don't think they would be crappy just because another iteration of them is in there.

Like Tumblr said that only works for Dr. Mario and maybe Dry Bowser. You still can't do Pichu or Toon Zelda.
Which is why I said:

If it means keeping an alternate version of a character, that's really no different from the original other than their outfit, from taking up a roster slot that should go to someone more unique or deserving, then... Yes.
Toon Zelda and Pichu are not the same as the original. TZ is as different as TL is from Link, and Pichu is a completely different Pokemon despite being related.

Why doesn't Toon Zelda deserve to get in?
She's probably one of the most excessive and unnecessary additions imaginable. We have Toon Link to represent the child and toon games so why do we need Toon Zelda? You might as well add Paper Peach to the roster after Paper Mario. It's really overstating your point and doesn't add anything new. Tetra is a good idea, but it draws too far away from Zelda which is probably not what Sakurai wants given his determination to have Link & Toon Link share the same moves. There's really no point and she was probably in the data because Sakurai honestly couldn't think of anyone else who was a clone.

EDIT: Never mind. My pal Louie G. explained it for me :p

I have asked many people if they wanted characters like Pichu, Dr. Mario, and Toon Zelda actually playable and they said yes. And again we have already been given these completely new characters on the original roster so nobody is going to care if the DLC is just alternates. DLC should be for extras. There are people who actually want those characters playable even before original ones, so don't act like they don't exist. How many original characters do you need before deserving alternates get a chance? Sometimes Sakurai adds characters he feels necessary in particular circumstances. It's not all about fan requests. You're saying nobody would buy DLC if it was just alternate forms of characters which is pure bull****. Tons of people would buy it because it's not only more characters, but people they like. You are suggesting that nobody would buy it because nobody wants to play as Pichu, Dr. Mario, or Toon Zelda. Well guess what they do. And it would take less time than making original characters that wouldn't really fit as DLC and actually have a chance in the original roster of this game or the next unlike alternate forms of characters that deserve playability, but wouldn't normally have priority.
I never suggested nobody wanted to play as those characters. I said that when I suggested both possibilities, the majority preferred entirely new characters over clones / semi-clones.
My claim is, and has been, that people would much rather have entirely new characters over copies of already existing ones and that they would rather pay for that instead. I never said nobody would pay for that either.
Then why are YOU making claims with no evidence and using SmashBoards as your only source???
I haven't asked a single person on Smashboards, mind you. It's not like I'd call you out on something and then choose to not do it myself.
Lol, what? You said it worked because they have the same build. Pichu & Pikachu do NOT have the same build and that's why it doesn't work as a costume. You're honestly trying to say that if we gave Pikachu clothing or a pallete swap that he's look remotely like Pichu when he doesn't have the head, ears, size, or body. Yeah, that sounds easy to make.
Their builds were similar enough to have Pichu be a Pikachu clone in Melee and they generally share all of the same moves. It still works, even if it isn't ideal.
Clothing =/= Model Swap.
Clothing is built on the model, it isn't like they have nude versions of every character and they just add clothing to it.
You said alternate forms should be alternate costumes in general.
Some =/= All
I mentioned some, like Dr. Mario for example. I never went as far to say that Toon Zelda. Don't assume I mean things like that without having me actually say I believe in that.
Not for DLC they wouldn't. DLC is for extras not characters that were important enough to get into the original.
Oh, so suddenly Sakurai just doesn't care about the standards he's previously put up for previously added characters?I don't know if I can take your knowledge of the subject at hand seriously anymore.
It's exactly like that. DLC would be for extras so it would be plausible.
Okay sure, Birdo is totally getting in Smash now guys. Greatest possible clone of Yoshi, importance or character popularity barely matters because it's DLC. Let's also confirm Proto Man while we're at it, would be a pretty easy to make clone of Mega Man (Since previously mentioned criteria related towards third party characters no longer matter, right?).

That's a pretty horribly obvious double standard you just made up.
Not entirely. They wouldn't affect the main game as much as the already programmed characters because they haven't been programmed into it. Say you have 5 Pokemon and you added a 6th, that would be unplausible in the main game, but since it's simply an extra that doesn't go through all the same stuff as an original it is plausible.
DLC, will have to affect the main game. The game will have to update so you can play with people that bought and use downloaded content. Anything added to the game, goes into the main game and would have to still to affect game balance in some way.

Here's a new roster, this time I thought about 3 Japanese retros (And one historical Japanese one), I would love to hear your opinion on it:
+2 Retros is cool
+Most franchises are repped quite nicely

-Too many retros (2 would be fine, get rid of Sable)
-Too many real people (the plausible amount would be 0)
-Diddy & Dixie Duo simply can't work and Sakurai even said so. There is really no possible way to get around it or prove otherwise. They are deconfirmed.
-So many characters that should be Assist Trophies.
-So many low priority characters taking the place of our 3rd Fire Emblem character
-Snake is the only cut, let alone for Pac-Man
-Hanafuda has nothing to do with the gaming industry and has no potential or feasible representative

Sakurai also said the Villager wouldn't work.
That's because he couldn't think of one. Diddy & Dixie on the other hand can't possibly work together while maintaining the Peanut Popgun and Barrel Rocket. Not to mention he'd be ****ting on all the fans who want to play as the 2 separately.

I never suggested nobody wanted to play as those characters. I said that when I suggested both possibilities, the majority preferred entirely new characters over clones / semi-clones.
Which they will get plenty of in the main game.

Please post a picture of Pikachu dressed up as Pichu and we will all be the judge of that.

Probably not as much considering they are just alternate/extras. In the orginal you had to balance out a pre-made roster. In DLC you're just extras being added below the roster and have

all the time you need and barely anyone to compete with, most of which presumably would hardly even be new characters, but just alts of existing ones.

Wow, I didn't' expect you to take my statement out of context and go completely overboard. I said it's not the exact same criteria, not that the criteria doesn't exist. Next time read more carefully.

It wouldn't affect Adventure Mode, Classic Mode, Trophies, Events, or even count as part of the official roster. It would probably just be extras at the bottom or on a different screen. They don't really connect to the main roster and keep it balanced.

When a newcomer is finally revealed, and is from a franchise that already has a stage to represent it, do you think Sakurai will show the new character on previously revealed stages only, give us another stage for that franchise, or possibly give a new stage that is from a franchise with an unconfirmed but obvious veteran?

Example: Ridley is confirmed and we get images of him on an obvious F Zero stage, but no Falcon yet.

Captain Falcon is deconfirmed because he is driving inside the Blue Falcon and it is a stage hazard. :troll:

Wouldn't a more likely newcomer be a better comparison?

Cut Napoleon, move Yoshi where Napoleon is at... and then add a 5th Mario character.

I also doubt we are getting four Japan-only retro characters... cut Napoleon like I already said... cut either Sable or Lip and replace with international retro characters (characters who had games in both Japan and North America).

Replace Dr. Kawashima with another character from a new franchise such as Dillon. I don't think a lot of people really want to see a bizarre WTF character unless it is someone who is iconic and sporadically requested more often than Dr. Kawashima (and Napoleon while we are at it).

Doesn't stop the people from wanting more, but your point doesn't help your case or hinder mine. Consumers would still prefer the original characters.

So what I'm getting from this is basically you saying that you believe that the development team will just get lazy and won't put in the same work they did for the main cast of characters. We're not talking about a Capcom game here, I highly doubt that any new characters wouldn't be going through the same criteria for the ones put in the main game. They're still characters being added to Smash Brothers, DLC or not.
Wow, I didn't' expect you to take my statement out of context and go completely overboard. I said it's not the exact same criteria, not that the criteria doesn't exist. Next time read more carefully.
It doesn't matter if it seemed out of context to you, the meaning is still there. Your entire argument is double standard, because you believe they don't need to be added with the same criteria necessary for character additions in the main game. It doesn't matter if they're just "extras" they're still characters being added to Smash Brothers.
It wouldn't affect Adventure Mode, Classic Mode, Trophies, Events, or even count as part of the official roster. It would probably just be extras at the bottom or on a different screen. They don't really connect to the main roster and keep it balanced.
It would still affect all of those (except adventure mode, if it was story driven. But it isn't, so it still does affect them).
You need to be able to play as those characters in Adventure, Classic, and Event Mode. Those characters would begin showing up in Classic Mode. They would have their own trophies. They would be part of the official roster, because they would be added into the game.

A prolonged introduction doesn't deny the characters access into those game modes, or into being in the official roster. The Vanilla Roster? Yes, they wouldn't be a part of that. But they would still be part of Smash Brothers.

Not all of humanity have that much creativity ya know.
I'm creative, just look at the threads in my sig.

DLC should really belong to only characters that have been cut.
There could be a Melee Pack, that has Pichu, Doc, and Roy. (Assuming Mewtwo is back) an maybe Young Link just to be fair.

The incredulous thought of including the unlikely Prince Sable, Daitouryou, or even Dr. Kawashima, while excluding another popular Fire Emblem character like Roy, or even Chrom and Lyn, seems rather... bizarre... to say the least.

Other than Waddle/Bandanna Dee and Krystal, are there any Nintendo characters that would properly use a spear or staff? I'm guessing some characters from Fire Emblem, but I know very little of that series.
Ganondorf. :p

+3 points for Lip.
-1 point for Kawashima.
-1 point for Daitoryorjtyorjmo however the crap you're supposed to spell that.
-1 point for no Roy third FE character.

Why is Ridley the most likely newcomer?
Well, likeliness is determined by size. Most people assert that Ridley is too big, this is obviously contradictory. The very reason that Ridley was even considered in the first place was based on the notion of his size.

In all reality, he really isn't. The most likely newcomer is undoubtedly Mewtwo (if you can even call him a newcomer). If Mewtwo isn't in the game, I will mutilate a poor Jigglypuff.
