So IGN have run an interview with Sakurai with some new developments. Tripping's removed, no DLC is planned and the final names are SSB Wii U and SSB 3DS. There's also a chance that the two games may not be released on the same day, apparently there's some more problems on the 3DS than Wii U version.

Finally, as the above article shows there's no touch screen controls.
This is great news. I'm a little sad about the "no DLC", but it's fine.

I'm in the same boat with not understanding how this increases Robins chances to get in. It flat out doesn't. Doesn't mean it decreases the chances, but it really doesn't do anything.

No updates on that rumor or anything? I'm kind of disappointed.

I wouldn't say DLC definetly isn't happening. It's something that seems to be planned after all the content is made. And anyway people rage when dlc is announced before a game comes out (like battlefield 4). I have never understood the problem with dlc because it really isn't that expensive, just skip a restaraunt run to McDonald's for lunch and there you go, all the money you need. I am not disappointed about the rumor, it's looking more and more fake by the minute which puts a smile on my face! Although, at least one more character at e3 would be nice. I think if sakurai were to announce Ridley, smash bros would end with the most hype of any game at e3. Hell maybe it already is.

Yes I agree. I just wanted to get a little more news on it character wise.

I mean I don't want Pac-Man or Mii in the slightest. That rumor is still sketchy though...the fact that he guessed word for word "Wii Fit Trainer" is astounding.

Aww, I like Regal a lot... I mean, I guess a lot of it is that I like Capoiera and the general concept of being a kick-only character wearing weaponized greaves.

What I see as being nice for DLC is that it'd actually be pretty easy... they wouldn't be obligated to create trophies, items, story missions, events etc. for the character, they could literally just add in a character. That would decrease the amount of work necessary to incorporate a character by a long shot.

But yeah, it's not like we wanted them to announce a bunch of DLC on release. Hopefully they decide to pick up DLC after the game's been out for a bit and then start announcing new characters and new costumes.

On the topic of Namco characters http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/06/...ters-receive-no-priority-for-super-smash-bros

I agree with pretty much everything Sakurai says. Namco shouldn't receive special treatment for their involvement, just as HAL characters never got preferential treatment on the first two games.
The section on Pac-Man is interesting as Sakurai shows an interest in what characters people want and I agree the only character I even want to see remotely invovled in smash from Namco is Pac-Man, no one else is big enough.

I dont think by Pac-Man geting in would be giveing them special treatment,But i think hes in.

My inquiry about Namco Bandai characters did lead Sakurai to ask me a question in return - if I had to pick one character, which Namco Bandai character would I want in Super Smash Bros.? The answer seemed obvious to me - the original arcade version of Pac-Man. Sakurai then asked me what a Final Smash might look like for that, and we started to discuss how how Pac-Man could become super-powered, and chase other characters around a stage, attempting to eat them. It was a surreal discussion to say the least, but shows that Sakurai is always contemplating what else he might add to his projects, packing them full of as much content as possible.

I agree. The way I've always looked at 3rd parties is like this. If your character is not one of the most influential characters in video gaming history you don't belong in smash. So far we've had Sonic, Snake and MegaMan. All three are gaming classics and probably household names, or at least people would recognise them in a pop culture sort of way. Pac-Man is one of the few true household gaming names, along with the likes of Mario, DK, Pikachu and Sonic and that's why I think he deserves a spot.

Sure Pacman is big and everything, but he is bland and boring. I liked Pacman when he was just the 2-D mouth going around and eating things but now he has just gotten more stupid and such. I mean if you ask me I think Lloyd or another tales character is way more deserving of a spot on the roster.

More interesting, possibly.
But no Tales character is more deserving than Pac-Man.

Well I suppose, but I still believe that a Tales rep would be the better choice. If I had to pick a second choice for a Namco rep then I would pick Pacman but never before the Tales series. I will go with they are equally deserving. Hows that, but I still believe that a Tales rep would be more interesting.

Well actually, now that I read the latest article, I think it can safely be determined false.

Pac-Man or any Namco Rep may not be in the game at all!

So... the rumor... since it might turn out to be false, how false to do you think it is? Do you think it was just a completely and absolutely astonishingly lucky guess, or do you think the "leaker" knew about the three that did get in and just trolled with the other three?

I'm going with the latter tbh, it takes something special to guess the Wii Fit Trainer. Or... the three that didn't end up being shown (and assuming they aren't going to be) were originally planned to be, but were pulled for whatever reason. In any case, I'm glad the Mii doesn't seem to be confirmed, am apathetic towards Pac-Man, and am pretty sure Little Mac's still gonna get in. So... glad the rumor/leak is fake... if it is fake.

Was it said anywhere if there are going to be version exclusive characters? I noticed that Villager and Wii Fit Trainer only show Wii U photos. I believe it was said that both games will have the same roster size, but was it said they would be identical in which characters would be in the roster?

No exclusive characters. Both games will have the "same library of characters", which is causing the Wii U to get shafted. Real fun. :glare:

I wouldn't say that Pac Man is discounted yet. Who knows what they will do. As well, to avoid disappointing let downs, I think any rumors or leaks should be viewed with a grain of salt until official or semi-official confirmatio.n.

He's pretty much confirmed NOT to be in the game. There is zero chance of him being in it now. (Not that there ever was in the first place.)

The three revealed characters may have been leaked and the leaker may have added three random extra characters to shake things up. At least, this is what I believe.

Sakurai only said that Namco Bandai developing the game doesn't imply that a Namco character will get in. However, he didn't deny the existence of a Namco Bandai character.

That is to say not to jump into conclusions at a so early time.

Honestly, reading all the scuttlebutt, and rumors, it's safe to say they were fed mixed information. As far as Sakurai's thoughts on Namco? I think it just means we won't be seeing more than one Namco character. Honestly though, I can't really say I'd prefer Pac-Man over Tales, but I'll admit to being biased towards Tales. Though aren't people forgetting it all started with Tales of Phantasia with Cless Alvin and company on the SNES?

And where's the basis for that?

Sakurai never dismissed a Namco rep but just said they won't be given special treatment. And certainly, that does not dismiss the possibility of Pac-Man. All your argument is really based on on shoddy assumptions and biased opinions towards the character.

If you're talking to me then I'm just making a reference to the people who told me to accept it as real.

Well the rumor turned out to be fake. Can't say I'm dissapointed in the slightest. But Pacman and Lil' Mac still seem rather likely characters to add to the new games. The only one of those unconfirmed characters that seem unlikely to me is the possibility of playing as a Mii. Maybe It's because I never cared for them but I don't see Mii's being used as they kinda have their shtick taken from them by both the Villager and the Trainer. And I don't see full character customization being implemented into Smash. Given that it might take away from the allure of playing a game full of Nintendo's most Iconic characters, and a few guys like Megaman and Sonic.

Just going to say this...

I am GLAD Sakurai crushed the Pac-Man, Little Mac and Mii rumor by saying that and I'm especially glad Sakurai didn't give Pac-Man special priority for this. I was always dreading what I considered the "inevitable" inclusion of Pac-Man, just accepted it when I though the leak was true, knowing that Mega Man was in.

I still believe that Little Mac will find his way into the game as he has the best résumé for a misc. character. However, I don't think Pac-Man and Mii will be getting in (not that the article deconfirms a Namco rep, but I really don't see it happening now that we know the leak is false). I firmly believe that Mega Man will be our only new third-party for this game and honestly, I'm more than okay with that.

I'm still convinced that if we get another third-party, it'll be from Namco. The only other companies that are really in the running for Smash are Square Enix and Ubisoft. Square Enix doesn't have the obvious character choices Capcom, SEGA, and KONAMI had, and I'd be willing to say Namco is closer to Nintendo than Ubisoft.

At this point, I'm not sure Snake and Sonic will return (though I find it most likely and hopeful), and I doubt we'll only see Megaman. My money's on Pac-Man, but it could realistically go either way. I actually thought Pac-Man would fit very well with that style of animation (the same reason I don't see Snake, and I doubt he'd be the only one to go), too.
