No, you are right. That wasn't my question. I suppose what I am trying to say is if a character got in Smash, it is because he/she/it is unique, interesting, or deserving... so assuming Toon Sheik really did get in Brawl... is it because he/she is unique, interesting, or deserving?

I have no Idea honestly. I imagine she was a package deal with Toon Zelda. As for why Sakurai considered Toon Zelda, I haven't the faintest idea.

Just like "pra_mai" it is impossible to tell what "toon_sheik" really is.
But unlike the former, at least "toon_sheik" can logically only be one of two things; Tetra or a literal Toon Sheik.

It's a very good roster, out of the ones I've seen so far I would consider it one of the top 5. Personally I never felt that Starfy, Goroh, or Muddy Mole warranted a spot in my opinion.

Thanks for that. And yeah, as far as those three, there are always a few surprises in Smash rosters, so I tried to put in a few not-as-suggested-but-still-in-the-realm-of-possibility characters.

It's very good. Only things that I see wrong are Starfy and Muddy Mole, but that last one is personal.

Well, it's a great roster actually. Only thing I'd change is Shulk for Isaac. And add Mach Rider and Impa as newcomers. Other than that, it looks great. Especially like how you picked Toad for a Mario newcomer.

I've personally been looking for this source forever. From what I've seen, it's been mentioned on a few sites here and there, and they claim that it was a translation of Sakurai's Japanese Brawl Poll/Journal thing. Sadly, that journal is lost. It would make sense, though, considering the sources I've found have said the same consistent thing, and Muddy did have one mention on the thing.

Yeah, look pretty solid and safe. Muddy and Starfy would be surprises for me. I don't have anything against those two, so yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing them. I'd personally add another Zelda rep, but on my roster I don't know who to add. I'm stuck between three characters lol..

I can explain the roster layout if you want.

1st Row is Mario Series, and related series.
2nd is the "Famicom icons" row. Zelda series, Takamaru (since it was a sister game to LoZ), Metroid, Kid Icarus (same engine, just like LoZ/Murasame), and Little Mac, due to the East/West thing with Takamaru.
3rd Row is full of still ongoing RPG series, hence Pokemon, Fire Emblem, and Xenoblade.
4th Row is full of Spacey/Alien series. Kirby, Starfy (kinda looks like a Kirby character and is of uncertain species.), Olimar, F-Zero, and StarFox characters.
5th Row is the Completed series and other retros. Ice Climbers stylistically make a link from Mother to retros. Third parties are thrown at the end because they don't fit anywhere else. And then there's a white space because Paint.

One thing I will probably say about this rosters is that they play it too safe in my opinion. It's probably the hivemind mentality working it's magic, which is not a problem in itself, but after a while it gets kind of tedious.
