What's this about Mewtwo? Are they gonna like ruin his trust on humans again?
Nope, they're giving him a new form and... identity issues (AKA angst, angst and more angst).

Mewtwo: "These Pokemon were not meant to exist in this world... just like me."

Let's just hope this new movie doesn't act as if the first movie didn't take place (etc. Ash not remembering who Mewtwo is).

Edit: Wait! I just remembered that Mewtwo erased Ash's memory in the end of the first movie. Still, Mewtwo should at least remember who Ash is.

My theory is that "Awakened Mewtwo" is simply going to be Mewtwo's abilities amplified to a significant degree by overcoming mental limitations. In a crude way, he will be going Super Saiyan -- except without the cosmetic change. He'll probably have something cheesy like a bright purple aura or something.

Yeah, it's probably going to be as much of a big deal as racecar Genesect.

Man, there are so many Pokemon I want in Smash. I cannot decide which I want the most. Meowth, Genesect, Mewtwo, Deoxys, Zoroark. Too many to choose from.

I don't know that it is so much that Pokemon come from the movies. It's that traits given to said Pokemon in Smash Bros. are taken from the movies. For example, the Lucario in the movie can speak, as can the Lucario in Brawl. I'm pretty sure Mewtwo in Melee was based off of the Mewtwo in the movie.

It's not so much that they originated from the movies themselves, but more that the character used is based off their movie counterpart.

Hmm, there's more.

Red replaced by Gold?
Ike by Micaiah?
Lucario by Zoroark?
Skyward Sword designs for Zelda characters?

I award it FalKoopa's Seal Of Outright Disapproval!

Since when did you have a Seal of Disapproval? (O_O);

I award you with the my Official Seal of Plagiarism! :troll:

Okay, that's enough thread derailing. Honestly, I would prefer Dillon before Sheriff. Both have western theme, sure, but one is more remembered than the other. Sheriff is Japan-only, while Dillon's game were released worldwide and will soon receive a sequel.

Not approved. :troll:
Had to get TWO new retros in there, and K. Rool was one of the only few choices to be taken out for it.

Each Smash appears to get TWO new retros.

Gold represents the 2nd Gen remakes (4 years after they came out, just like Red did for the 2004 remakes in Brawl)

Micaiah changes up the Fire Emblem roster, she also starts out Radiant Dawn and get bigger roles as it progresses. It is diversity and Ike could easily be DLC with his swords and axes (which we already have now with Simon)

Also it was Chrom to replace Ike, not Micaiah (she was added)

Zoroark is one of the better Gen 5 reps

Skyward Sword will impact most of Zelda's roster like Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess did before. It will certainly affect Link and Zelda, and if there is a 5th character, pretty much them as well

And who's to say that Smash newcomers are determined by a pattern?

I don't remember 64 having two retros, so please stop making those assumptions. Not to sound rude, but it gets annoying when people use patterns to justify their arguments, because it doesn't make such arguments valid at all.

Not guaranteeing anything, just trying to point it out.

And it started in Melee, not the original.

Pattern-based analysis? Takamaru seems to be the only obvious retro.
Dillon can replace Sheriff anytime.
And I can certainly see that, but also Sheriff is one of the only history retros that stand out.

Either or works for me.

A pattern based analysis only works if it's verified in a long period of time, but even so, patterns can break at any time. See what happened with Pokémon Black / White, for example.

The only retro I think that has a chance is Takamaru, who's been getting attention as of recently and seems to be popular too.

Do you honestly believe that Melee started a pattern? Show me the evidence to back your assumption.

Not denying that, just saying.

Evidence is really only in the retro choices chosen (not big but like I said, it is just something).

Ice Climbers were just added because they were classics, and because Sakurai liked them.

Mr. Game & Watch, for whatever reason he was chosen, represents the original Nintendo handhelds. The Game & Watches.

Pit was a classic, popular character added. I have a feeling that Sakurai was planning on making a game for him anyways. Especially after Pit's redesign.

ROB was the accessory that helped sell the NES in America, and it was an overall popular accessory.

Takamaru is popular and getting attention (like you said). If another one is added, it would likely (not guaranteed) be one that has history with Nintendo. Sheriff being a classic 1979 arcade character (one of Nintendo's first and a classic arcade rep to boot) seems to give him a shot for such a spot IMO.

There's no pattern because Sakurai isn't a computer. There's like a ****ton of characters he goes through when picking the roster. We don't even know about the majority. As far as I know he's thought about:

64: Bowser, Dedede, Mewtwo (Maybe Wolf)
Melee: Wolf, Wario, Leaf, Dedede
Brawl: Dixie, Toon Zelda, Toon Shiek, Mewtwo, Roy, Animal Crossing Boy, Pra_Mai, Doc, Liscensing character

Theres even more that are simply rumors. Like Ridley in Melee, Peach, Pit, and Meowth in 64, and Geno in Brawl

People are fanboying all over Takamaru. Isn't he getting the exact same amount of revival as Balloon Fighter? I mean they both have happy fun times in Nintendoland. Is Takamaru in something else?

He's in some Samurai Fighting game as well. Balloon fighter was pretty much perminently deconfirmed Post-Melee. This de-confirmation could arguably de-confirm Tingle from ever being playable. But we can hope.

The fact that people still get up in arms when a roster lacks K. Rool makes me a very happy supporter.

The only thing in common is the balloon. Tingle is more capable than that.
This is true. Tingle also shows up in Smash a decent amount, and Balloon fighter doesn't. He is, however, always utilizing his balloons.

Balloon Fighter was apparently considered by Sakurai once.

One of the plans for Melee was to use a character who would represent NES games in general. Sakurai revealed a list of characters who had been considered (we don’t really know if it was all of them or not, though) along with reasons they had been dumped (some of the reasons were joking, some really weren’t). The rejected choices were:
-Balloon Fighter (“if his balloons were popped, he couldn’t do anything”)
-Urban Champion (“there’s not much you could do with him”)
-Bubbles (from Clu Clu Land) (“she (?) doesn’t really know how to fight”)
-Excitebike (“you’d have to install ramps on all the levels for him to be playable”)

The character that was actually chosen for this position was, of course, the Ice Climbers. Interesting that Pit apparently wasn’t in that list.
I don't believe that is a ringing endorsement that Balloon Fighter will ever be playable.

And it's generally considered that those reasons are from the rear of a bull, as nearly all have a parallel within smash or one of Sakurai's other series. Balloon Fighter -> Olimar, Urban Champion -> Fox, Bubbles -> Zelda (in normal form, we see her use a grand total of one spell which holds Gannon back, and she doesn't have anything remotely similar in Smash), and Excitebike -> Wheelie from the Kirby series.
