I've never had a 'serious' girlfriend, nor do I want one. The whole idea of a relationship scares me, I'd hate to lose my personal freedom.
However, girls make good friends, and if you know how to play your cards, the benefits can be rewarding. Not just in regard to sexy-time either, if you know how to get the most out of female friends, they'll do things for you that no buddy would ever do. I dunno, I guess it's because my REAL friends are all so far away, and all other dudes my age are ******** and can only think about how to get laid, girls seem to be the only voice of reason I come across these days.
It's funny because acting oblivious to their approaches drives girls MAD.
Anyway, I dunno why a girl would want a serious relationship with me, I always make it clear early upon meeting them that I'm DEFINITELY leaving the country in 3 years.
You see, here's how I look at the situation. You have a character that can easily transition into the game, bring with him that coveted spear play style I've had to listen to people beg about for years, and happens to be an unoffensive character. Sounds like a good recipe to me. My perspective in this case is very Ryota Nitsuma-ish -- looking at functionality. WD can make for a fun zoning character.

Funny thing many people don't realize, but picture your dream girl. What is she like? You know, the perfect girl, that is exactly what you want, you've perhaps dreamed of her.
Many people don't realize this, but your 'dream girl' is actually YOU. All of the people in your dreams are but mere manifestations of your subconscious.
Well, rather I should say Ideal Partner as this applies to both genders.
I have a good number of friends that are girls, but, save for one (it came and went), I never had any particular feelings for any one of them. That being said, talking with girls seems more rewarding to me at times than talking to guys. However, I don't think I've ever asked them to do anything in particular. In fact, I don't like asking for favors from my friends beyond help with homework or asking to eat what's left of their food (I have a very big appetite, but not like a football player).
As for my dream girl, I don't give it too much thought as the idea of marrying a girl me doesn't seem that good. We'd never get anything done and we could easily be emotional wrecks under certain circumstances. I'd rather someone that has commonalities, but complementary aspects of their personality. Still, I do have my turn ons. I like girls that kick ass after all. I don't want some skinny waif.

Looking at functionality is always a positive thing, and I perfectly understand how Waddle Dee can fit into the game perfectly fine. But the fact it's a grunt rubs me the wrong way. I mean, looking for styles of play is always a positive thing, but going for something a little desperate like a Waddle Dee doesn't feel right. Each to their own I suppose, but I don't exactly feel it.
You can look me up then, I use the same username for just about everything, and there should be pictures of me floating around the web (I think I even posted a couple on this site). You can rest assured I'm every bit as manly as I claim to be.
EDIT:
On second thought, don't. I just ran a search and realized how many people use my username for stupid ****. That being said I think I have my facebook linked to my profile here so knock yourself out...
Kilik was actually pretty awesome, but I'm still not sold on the whole WD idea. Why not Ephriam then? Why must we have the generic lackey? I mean, at least Toad is somewhat justified, as it's parallel to Yoshi, but WD? Nah man, I ain't biting.
I'd love to jump into this topic and see character discussion. That seem like it doesn't happen.
On of the issues I'm seeing with the next game is it's going to be like Brawl in the same, but a different, way. In Brawl, we were picking from the second string guys. There were a lot of shoes in that everyone could agree on (Olimar, Diddy, Dedede) and everyone else (I'd throw Lucas and Wolf into that category. Maybe Lucario). This time, it's the same, just we are picking from the third string guys. I've been trying to predict the roster since the game's announcement. This was because everyone was coming out being a self proclaimed expert while not proving they were right. I've tried to go against that. Unfortunately, I've kind of realized it wont happen. Right now, I see a few character who are a sure thing, and the rest are up in the air. I fully expect Little Mac, Ridley, King K Rool, Takamaru, Shulk and Plautena to be in. And Roy and Mewtwo too. I think everyone here will agree with me. The issue comes with everyone else. What about Waluigi? Goroh? Dixie or Ghirahim or Dillon or Zoroark or Chrom? There are probobly a few I missed who will get in. There is also the issue of characters we wont expect. This is why I've been trying to be proactive on Karate Joe and Sheriff. Sakurai will make the right choice; that I am sure of. The issue is who. There are enough characters and enough uncertainty to say that it could be anyone. That's why, outside of those 6 (8) I haven't been betting on anyone. I'm just trying to ride out the next three months and see what happens. If only discussions were to happen. Don't think anyone needs to hear Kuma's love life.
On Waddle Dee: Habanero pretty much summed it up. The issue is that he is is he important enough to be a character. I could go either way as my post above seems to make out. Ryota Nitsuma is an alright guy, but he adds uniqueness for uniqueness's sake. Characters like Ice Climbers and Pokemon Trainer feel fresh because they aren't forced. A lot of his games try to have a lot of characters who are unique, forgetting that having a good blend should be the goal.
Also in other news, Golden defending the lazy character rehash Dr. Mario is still really hilarious. I haven't seen passion for such a stupid character in a long time.

Now that you mentioned it, I used to be a supporter of an Ephraim and Eirika team since they traveled together in certain parts of Sacred Stones. It was the game to interest me in the other Fire Emblem video games A noble lance user and a bridal rapier user, which is a two- in-one deal. Though, the dress sword combo could be an issue with programmers.

As much as it would fulfill a long standing dream of mine to see Ephraim playable, even I know he has virtually no chance compared to Roy, Chrom or even Lucina. Waddle Dee is ripe for a Super Smash Bros appearance.

In his defense, the anti-Doc arguments are dumb. No need to bring it in here, but way too many people have these dumb ideals on what the roster should be.

Well this is speculation, which is more or less making educated guesses. It's really tough to start talking about some random unguessable character, good or bad, without coming across as somewhat crazy. That said, I agree that there will be at least one character that no one expected except for that crazy drunk guy in the corner of the room, and that Sakurai will make the right choices in the end (though I still miss Mewtwo/Roy).

The point is -- as I've regurgitated ad nauseam -- Waddle Dee is a safe choice for a character that brings a unique play style to the series. For those reasons I believe Sakurai WILL develop him into a playable character (DLC or not). If this were NeoGAF, I'd even place an avatar bet on this. That is how confident I am.
Nice to see some character discussion...on this page anyway.
That being said, with Waddle Dee, I personally love the character. I'm just shaky on the chances of another Kirby rep. However, if we were to get one, it would without a doubt be Waddle Dee.
I think there are 2 main things that contribute to Waddle Dee being so important. First, he has unexpected popularity. Back in the days of Super Star, a lone Waddle Dee was a boss in the Area. After becoming a meme due to “difficulty,” they decided to merge him with the Waddle Dee in Megaton Punch as Dedede’s sidekick. This gave a huge boot to his popularity, and to this day you can even find references to this in official material (“Hey look! It’s everyone’s idol!”, “…Waddle Dee has become one of the most beloved characters….” and, surprisingly enough, “…one of our favorite characters!”). Considering he made it to the 20th Anniversary title screen, he is at least an icon to the series at this point. The other thing is what he seems to be headed towards. Waddle Dee can sort of be seen as the Kamek to Dedede’s Browser, being an unimportant, generic, yet notable ally to the main villain, to make him a bit less evil and more likeable. His very first appearance has him practically sacrificing himself to protect Dedede from Kirby, despite knowing both he could do nothing AND Dedede actually telling him that he shouldn’t go. A similar moment between Meta Knight and the Meta-Knights was sighted as one of the developer’s favorite moments in the original Super Star, so they are really pushing for this character.
I was attempting to reference a joke. Eh, humor doesn't always translate the way I intend. I don't even think you were around for my Slime campaigns a couple of summers ago.
The more the merrier. The thread is basically the same as all of those people during Brawl saying "Roy shouldn't be back because he's a clone." It was stupid then and it's stupid now.

Yeah, that's true. I guess my problem is I feel every character is a crazy guess. It is really hard to pin point it down and those surprises don't make it any easier.

Yeah I remember that. You managed to convince me and others that Slime was a good choice. Of course we probably won't see him in any Smash games but it'd be nice if he (or a Dragon Quest character) were to show up.

I'm sure a lot of us feel the same way, except for Star and Bandana Dee, who's are now our official drunk guy in the corner, but hey that's what makes it so fun when reveals start happening.

However, I have to slightly nudge you away from the Kamek comparison. If you want to draw a comparison try using Kirby 64 as your basis, considering the "good" Waddle Dee in that game played a supportive role to Kirby through out his adventure. In a way, you could say that the idea of a distinct protagonistic Waddle Dee has existed for at least two games now.

What do you mean "was"? He still is, unfortunately the bungling of Dragon Quest X has left me with irreparable scars... Plus, I personally prefer Terry anyways --monster summoning with master sword abilities is an exciting thought.

Coming from a guy who supports Slime, Pokey, Jimmy T, Orbulon, Ephraim, and Dark Samus; do you really expect much from me? The only difference with Waddle Dee is I think he's (she?) happening. Every one else I already know their chances are in the crapper.

Takamaru is kind of dark horse in a sense I suppose considering the character is still incredibly obscure, which is probably why support for the character is so quiet. I try to drag my feet, but then things simply blow away in the wind. I presume things will kick up once we finally get details on Takamaru in Super Smash Bros. (like in a vein to Pit), but that is if it actually happens.
But I guess in the context of Super Smash Bros. dark horse candidates, I'd go for Lip. I think a magical girl would be a different change of pace from the norm.
Looks like it's time for a bar fight. We're all in the corner for we all have that one crazy dark horse character we want to see, for me it's Ryu Hayabusa.
