Knowing that, Star, why've you been so confident on DLC? You do mean DLC characters, right?

Maybe I put the idea out of my head too early, but I figured for a game like Smash, it would be really hard to get a team together to create DLC characters, and that it would be more worthwhile to just put in everything they could from the beginning. Considering all the resources that must be pulled together, y'know? And for characters that would have to be more on the obscure side, too. Unless Sakurai purposely left out some big names just so they could get peoples interest in buying some no names.

But I suppose... I accept that DLC for Smash would definitely be something everyone would want.
My thoughts on DLC characters is that it would be great to see them. Right now, however, knowing that Sakurai wants to complete his game and move on to another project, the only characters I can see happening in the near future are unfinished characters he intends to add.

My favorite Ice creams are green tea, and peppermint.

Haggan Das makes Green tea, but peppermint is usually only available around Christmas

Because I know Sakurai will not be able to complete everything he wishes in time before release. It always happens, but with DLC, instead of leaving that content on the cutting room floor, he can continue on and publish said content in a way he was able to before. I'm not talking about creating content for the sake of, since I do not believe that fits into Sakurai's design philosophy.

Doesn't Sakurai always say "a good game is good eventually, a bad game is bad forever"?

If so then DLC kinda solves that because it can be bad at first then get better.

That'd be a bad philosophy (bolded). It's unrealistic to expect a subpar game to have its turd polish into a solid game. Sakurai is going to make the best game he can make and then add whatever got cut.

HRMMMM... Yeah. Alright, I think I agree with you.

My head was in the wrong place.

For it to get on the cutting room floor though, it would be something more along the lines of game modes, wouldn't you think? That'll be interesting. Would fit more in line with what Nintendo sees DLC as. Actually, with that thought, I could see why they might wish to actually create new content like characters for it, if only maybe as a bonus or just something to get people interested. "Play as this NEW CHARACTER in this NEW GAME MODE WHOA!"

Something like that maybe. Ah, thinking too much I suppose.

Also, hi SSBF.

Honestly I don't give a **** about new game modes. I just want new characters. I spend way more time ******* around with different characters than playing new modes.

@peeup: Honestly, this is why I'm glad Sakurai continues to go for a quality over a quantity philosophy. Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 had 161 characters but most of them aren't worth anything. I would much rather see a roster of around fifty characters that is reasonably balanced (transformation included).

Ok yeah DBZBT3 is an extreme. What I meant though was I'd rather have time that would be spent developing new game modes instead be used making new characters and balancing them.

For most of us, I think it would depend on the character and game mode in question.

DBZ isn't really something you can balance, characters are inherently stronger or weaker than eachother. TBH, I always liked the games huge rosters, though I haven't played any of the newer games.

I think Sakurai wouldn't want to go overboard with DLC, especially not characters. If we get more than say 3, I'd be surprised

And the only DBZ games worth mentioning are the original Budokai series

For a Mario newcomer, personally, while I would prefer Toad, both Paper Mario and Bowser Jr. are deserving of playable status as well. I would be fine with any one of those three characters getting in as the Mario newcomer.

Waluigi, although he has a lot of fans (but then again so do the other Mario choices), I think is best represented as an Assist Trophy considering his overall role within the Mario series.

As for a new possible character subject that has not (yet) been beaten to death, how about the discussion for Pikmin 3? I know Star believes that Pikmin 3 could warrant a newcomer for the Pikmin franchise, but I am curious if anyone else feels that way.

Right now, I don't think we know enough about Pikmin 3 whether to say much about a potential newcomer.

Mewtwo and a Shiny Genesect, what's not to like?

Regarding Pikmin first, I don't think that the 3rd game will warrant a newcomer, whether Olimar makes an appearence or not.
Even if Olimar makes no appearence in Pikmin 3, Olimar should return, since he's the better known character from Pikmin and if he's absent from Pikmin 3, that shouldn't stop him from having the new Pikmin species along with the 5 from the first two games.

Judging from Mewtwo having another major role in Pokémon and the fact he was given a signature move in Gen V alongside some promotion as well, things are looking well for those who wish Mewtwo to return for SSB4. Those news please me.

Mewtwo & Genesect? Should be the most interesting movie in the 5th gen. Might have to see it.

Will take a lot to beat Mewtwo Vs. Deoxys, but man this looks like the best Pokemon movie since Movie 8. STILL AM WAITING FOR AN ACTUAL TRAILER WITH MEWTWO.

A normal colored Genesect would be better, in my opinion, since it's purple coloring would look good with Mewtwo's coloring

Also 'cause I like purple better than red

sorry whats that?
It's a 2D fan smash game like Super Smash Flash 2 but better(IMO). Weegee is one of several alt characters from the game if you choose Luigi. Their newest engine 0.9 is legit when I tried it at Apex 2013 in January. Plays like a normal smash game by it's 2D.

I'll just update my post with gameplay from 0.9 later so you see how Weegee's like. I didn't get a chance to play him because I was figuring out what I can and can't do with Link in Crusade that I can in Brawl as far as advance techniques. Mach Rider, DK and Waluigi are fun too.

Only sad thing is that Mewtwo is probably going to get yet another voice for the dubbing.
Yes, Dan Green came back after 4Kids lost the dubbing rights, but he hasn't done any voicing since his wife died after birthing their children (twins). God bless his soul.....

Good to see Mewtwo is back in the spotlight. That can only mean good things for his inclusion in Smash Bros.

Alright. So I finished Fire Emblem: Awakening about an hour ago. HOLY ****. Chrom is a BOSS. He is basically one of my most wanted newcomers now. While i'd like to see Roy come back, at this point if it is only one to be added, my bet is going to be on Chrom. However, i'm still hoping it's both of them, based on the popularity of the series, and the fact that Roy and Chrom lead popularity for new FE characters.

From what i've seen of Chrom in Awakening, his movements and attacks are practically fit for Smash Bros. Although he would be a 3rd blue haird swordsman, I can't help but feel he would be perfect. He could be a middleweight character, and have a mixed playstyle between Marth and Ike. I would say just let him use Falchion and not even bother with the use of lances.

Thoughts?

A lance user would stand out among the cast. There should be a lance user, imo.
True. But why have him use lances if his main weapon is the Falchion? Maybe as a special or something, but as his main weapon? I don't think that would be the way to go.
