Exactly. For example, Blood Falcon uses Captain Falcon's smashes from 64. Little things like that. He also incorperates a bit of Ganondorf in him. Then Metal Mario, on the other hand, just uses a different array of punches and kicks. Bland, yes, but still unique.
Shadow Mario is the better alternative though:
  • he's actually Bowser Jr. in disguise, giving the possibility of a transforming character
  • he has his signature paintbrush
Still like the way you think. You're open minded.

There is no defense for that point.

Brawl outsold Melee
Brawl had just as high or higher review than Melee
Brawl was the most played Wii game 2-3 years after launch.

There is no backing to that claim. Competitive players thought it was bad because it's not Melee. They also happen to be the most vocal group. Everyone else thought Brawl was an improvement and the facts show this.

I'm tired of this fake reality of the competitive Smash community.
You really don't have any brains, do you?

Brawl was not exactly an improvement. It made some strides, but it fell on it's face in someways too. People may say Brawl is better because it has more content, but the content in question is very sketchy.

@Habanero: watched that video partially. Some parts were compelling, only to be devastated by suggestions like Sylux, who has almost no importance to the Metroid franchise.

Some choice observations:
--This isn't the first time I've seen the gaming media suggest Lucario's removal as if it was an obvious choice...I'm worried this might become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
--That looks like one of N3ON's banners for Lloyd...nice cameo!
--It's hard to develop a full moveset for Ridley because of his size...if that's the worst counterpoint against him, he really has a clear path this time around, especially when it's prefaced by comments like "I know everyone wants Ridley, buut..."

Lucario is only leaving IF: Sakurai thinks we need TWO newcomers from Pokemon that bad. Otherwise I don't see a real reason for him to be thrown out. Five Pokeslots isn't that crazy.

Feel free to mock or praise NinBuzz, whatever floats your boat.
I stopped after he picked Sylux over Ridley and used the same tired "Ridley's too big" "argument" again.

Also, he's a patternist based on his inclusion of Krystal and his saying that Zoroark will replace Lucario. [/quote]

I've seen some crazy prophets going around the streets naked only covered by ridiculous cardboard thingys saying the "THE END IS NEAR!"

The end of what? None knows, of course. I personally ask the doctors in the hospitals to rub salt on those prophet's wounds, when they... uh... fall down the stairs or get squished under a car driven by one or two drunken drivers.

Such comedic stuff, like Melee vs. Brawl discussions.

Edit: Also, patternism is like the new religion here at Smashboards. Likely preached by those prophets.

Saw the vid. The best part was the Running in the 90s song. But honestly, some I agreed on, but others are a bit, uh, out there as well as the justifications.

I'm tired of the Melee vs. Brawl debates. Both sides stick to their positions and no one's ready to budge. :urg:

Patternism would probably be the worst religion ever. Granted religion as a whole is just a bunch of morons fantasizing over some imaginary people, but for the sake of keeping this thread PG let's not dive into that.

Humans have naturally imaginative minds, that's why we have:
  • Art
  • Anime
  • Religion
  • Internet
  • Jokes about tripping on banana peels
  • Arbitrary discussions about unimportant subjects
  • Free soda
  • Scientology
  • Angry Magikarps
  • Overall stupidity
  • Overall intelligence
Still, using patterns as arguments in Smash is poor argumentantion giving that we only have a scope of three games to analyze. That's very small sample to make a good generalization.

You know, if I were ever fortunate enough to get hired as as a video game journalist, I'd make a "Top 10 Most Likely Smash Newcomers" video comprised entirely of the most mundane Nintendo characters in existence, then justify it by saying "Well, guys, it's my personal list...and because of that, you can't criticize a single pick on it." ;)

I'd do that, except with clones.

Humans can imagine, that's why we'll soon have over 700 pokemon.

There aren't really any "patterns" to look for in a series with only three games yet.

It's kind of sad we even have these debates because both games are really good. It's just competitive Smash tries to tell us how Brawl was SOOOO bad. Sadly, competitive Smash is kind of a cult.

To add insult to injury, make all of those characters (barring Mewtwo) better then the original counterpart.

Pretty meh character list IMO. Of course, there have been far worse ones, at least this one stuck mostly to Nintendo characters, and had several decent choices, but overall it wasn't really anything that doesn't already get thrown around a lot. Also, some of his reasoning was dumb.

Plus, I didn't get any royalties for him using my picture. Egregious! :awesome::laugh:;)

It's like I wake up in a winter morning, turn on the radio to hear some music, and then, upon hearing the music, I notice that the voice sounds distorted or something like that. Sleepy as I just woken up, I think that the singer might be having the flu, when I realize that the radio station operates in 90.8 FM and see the radio tuned in 90.9 FM...

Same applies to the more fanatical people here and everywhere. They're simply tuned on another wavelength, away from the truth.

"I know a lot of you guys want to see Toad playable, but he's too annoying to have a full moveset, so bear with me...I'm choosing Shadow Mario!"

These list-makers always say 'bear with me...' at least once.

See? There's a pattern in those prophets! I say it's that wicked cult named Patternism.

What? Is it a religion already? How has it got promoted so fast?

Nayru, Din, Farore, Hylia, Palutena, Viridi, Medusa, Poseidon, Hades, Pandora, Thanatos, Pyrrhon, Dyntos and Arceus are now weeping in their realms.

Actually, what you should do is wait for the game to come out and then call him out when he's flat out wrong.

For better results, make your own. More of a risk, but more fun. Plus, you get to be kingpin on the internet.

Again with the generalizations. If anything, in my experience it's been the anti-competitive community that's more aggressive. Yes, many competitive players/Melee fans don't like Brawl, but most of them don't go out of their way to bash Brawl or casual play.

Also, SmashChu, some consistency with regards to your opinions on Melee/competitive Smash would be nice.

Melee vs. Brawl arguments are no way in this planet we call Earth arguments by the definition of that word.

A better, accurate definition of such "arguments" is: bunch o' people bashin' at one another with easily breakable sticks.

Problem with Smashboard is that everyone assumes that the outside world shares the same opinion.

The aint-competitive people are less aggressive by far. If anything, they only respond to competitive Smash acting like they usually do which is saying everyone else is wrong and their opinion is the right one. Ever since Brawl came out they've been aggressively saying Brawl is a bad game at every turn. This is why it's hard to just talk about the two games because competitive players rear their heads and try to claim that Brawl is a vile game and Sakurai is an idiot. There is natural backlash and, thus, competitive Smash sees itself as a victim. Meanwhile, it forgets how it was the one who acted likes prick saying everyone else was a scrub n00b.

I like Melee, but I don't like the world competitive community created. Despite what the competitive community thinks, the game is not perfect. Most of the time I'm trying to bring it back to reality.

Though there isn't much else that needs to be said on this topic.

No, Smashboards is just keen on keeping the elite from the scrubs. And likes to teach scrubs how to play better, yet you'll first have to throw behind the way you're used to play. And that's why people hate tournament players. Sure, it sucks balls everyone and their dog use Fox, and you'll never beat them with your Yoshi, but yeah... **** SUX BRO. You think I enjoy having to play Sheik and Jigglypuff over my favroite Melee characters, DK and Mewtwo? No I don't. Luckily Marth is cool though.

Except the anti-competitive people are not any better, in fact I'd say they are worse. Mainly because they tend to be ignorant of the fact that tier lists are not simply a form of quality, but a basis on usage and tournament results from each character. As such it doesn't effect casual play, but they fail to realize it and go berserk on the competitive scene due to a misconception.
