Could they replace his gun with a gun that shoots explosions? Because for some reason explosions are ok but bullets aren't.

lets just make a robot made out of all the previous systems and accessories and call it a day. We'll call him the N-Bot
Let's take that a bit further.

Call him Captian N.

i would be cool with Captain N as a character personally. sure he doesnt originate from video games, but he is a product of Nintendo. and it would make for some good event matches with Link, Pit, Megaman etc

Pyup. That's your name. Pyup.

Also I wonder if the worlds of Sheriff and Wild Gunman could be merged should Sakurai choose to create a Western setting/character.

N-Bot?

Sounds like a short way of saying "n***er bots" like Robotnik in Youtube Poops...

I think people sort of... overestimate Sheriff's historical significance. He's only 1 year older than Mario or Game & Watch. There were also other games before him. I think... maybe Sheriff is the first named hero or something?
Exactly. He's the first actual game character Nintendo has made.
All other titles didn't have characters, so to speak.

peeup = pee up

pyup = pie up

And NO im just an innovator.
No, Pyup would be pronounced Pee up.

Since when would Py be pronounced pie?

I think your thinking of pi, and even then in the context it probably would be pronounced pee up as well

Peeup, pyup, and piup would all be pronounced pee up if they were real words

Well if fly can have the long "I" sound, then so can py.

With peeup there's no ambiguity.

Addressing the problem of accuracy, I have a custom built toilet that is on the roof of my bathroom. I never miss.

But the toilet bowl is upside down so after I nail a shot it comes pouring back out.

The eyepatch is because it was the first day with me hook, and a bird pooped in me eye.

...I'm pretty sure DiC created Captain N instead. That said, he would easily fit as a cool character, but he has little chance. The show is not remembered as "good", despite excellent animation till the 3rd season. Of course, it's still funny that until a new related series came up, he never met with any Mario characters.(Donkey Kong himself does not count, as he specifically came from Congo Land and was based upon his original game and some of DKC, with the whole Banana thing)

Also, Mother Brain was a major villain, and to be honest? Her actual battlemech would make a great boss. Not that I don't like the one-eyed version from the 3D Metroid games, but this one looks like more fun boss material. With things like missiles, lasers, and an actual ram attack. All of this is IMO, though.

Not to change the topic, but speaking of hardware, does anyone see the Wii Zapper as a possible item?
As for ROB, his chances were boosted due to him appearing in Mario Kart DS.

I think Sakurai would've chosen him regardless of Mario Kart DS. At worst, that told him he existed, but I doubt Sakurai didn't know about him already. It's not like Krystal, where he literally has no idea she existed.

Very serious.

I remember reading the interview.

And she's kind of hated in Japan, but not in the West. Not exactly somebody worth mentioning. He didn't use the Assault costumes either, notably. Heck, he probably didn't know Dinosaur Planet existed.

I had a smash related dream last night. I was on youtube watching an off-screen recording of SSB4. The roster was made up of Mario, Kirby, Metaknight Samus, Ridley Link, Pikachu, Fox, Krystal, DK, Diddy, Pit, Wario and 2 other people. I couldn't make them out because there was too much bloom coming from the screen. I was more so disappointed that I didn't see Yoshi on the demo list.

I remember the game looking beautiful. Beautiful as in Uncharted, Killzone beautiful. The game looked like a mix of Brawl and Melee. Tripping was still there, but i did see an option to turn it off. It was labeled "Hazards" it could of been a feature for stages. but I'm just going to interpret the option as tripping for the sake of having a good dream.

Smash Bros-fandom and fanart is always fun to look at. How they just intepretiate or out-of-characterize certain character to point of making them look just ridiculous.

On Lyn:

It depends on how she got in. If she got in with a competitively inspired playstyle similar to the one I suggest, then I would be absolutely giddy and would definitely main her.

If not, I would still give her a run, just to see what she's like, but she'd likely become my Ike, that fun character I play as every once in a while to have fun. I would still have the consolation of knowing she got in, and thus a moveset could be modified for her to make her a more balanced character a la Project M, in fact, her getting officially in gives a much better chance to seeing my proposed moveset see the light of competitive play. The thing is, I wonder how difficult it would be to program my counter gimmick into Smash, as it's very reactive. For a game like MUGEN, it's actually rather simple, but in Smash... I get the feeling it must be a nightmare for some reason, if you're modding I mean, since you're limited by what tools the programmers left for you to work with.

On Retros:

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. Looking at patterns is absurd and leads to logical fallacies. You are trying to set rules into the thought process and nature of a man you've never met. Just because he did some things a couple times, doesn't mean he'll do it again. It's very likely that he may not add a Retro at all, especially once the well runs dry.

That being said, going by the discussion on Sheriff, I can see that happening. Also, Guns are a non-issue. The only reason Sakurai has a distaste for guns is due to balanced issues imo, not maturity. Having a characters use guns in a fighter needs to be well thought out and balanced. Example: Noel Vermillion in Blazblue with the stylish Gun-Kata.

Deja Vu man, we've already talked about this when discussing Bayonetta.

Controversy was said to be the main concern for Snake not having knives. In Japan, knives and swords are one in the same, but in the West, they're not. Guns are likely a similar issue, at least to him. There wasn't any concern about Chris, Jill, and Wesker having guns in MvC. I think part of it depends on the sound effects used.

When it comes to balance, I find it funny as we have Falco with his OP lasers.

I think it's kind of absurd that Snake doesn't have his combat knife when you have Link, Marth and Ike running around with huge swords. Then you have Lyn as an AT with a Japanese sword to boot.

Falco's Lasers ARE OP. But at least it's one move, and they can be slowed. Imagine the same thing, but as a smaller more difficult to see object, and about twice as fast. That's why guns were a no-no for Snake. He'd just tranq. everyone in the arena and set up his killing moves. And a machine gun would be WAYYYY out of place in ANY fighter, just look at the Uncharted guy in PSABR, he just feels so... out of place.

EDIT: Well it depends on how they're implemented. A machine gun can work as a combo move, but Smash having no combos...

We talking about guns? Well, obviously real-life guns wouldn't be allowed in Smash like Sakurai said... but Duck Hunt Dog could work in Smash. The NES Zapper is not a real-life gun, it just looks like a toy gun. The dog could do all the fighting and the hunter with the Zapper (the person playing Duck Hunt) could do all the shooting from the fourth wall via specials. He would be a good character to represent the NES Zapper games. This would be the world icon for Duck Hunt Dog.

The NES Deluxe Set came bundled with Duck Hunt, NES Zapper, Gyromite, and R.O.B. in the West. In that sense, it would be kinda fitting to see Duck Hunt Dog and R.O.B. together in Smash... as teammates and as opponents. :smirk:

Something about knives not being suited for all cultures had something to do with it Sakurai said. He said something in the like of knives being nothing but shorter swords in some cultures, but in others they are more intimidating or something amongst those lines. Probably had to do something with street voilence, then again, most voilence in the street is done with bare knuckles anyway...

I'd rather see the Zapper as a replacement for the Ray Gun(to fit with the Super Scope).

I'm sorry, but I just can't stand the idea of DHD being in Smash. It's entirely a personal thing, but I just hate the idea of him being playable. As far as historical characters go, it's pretty much Sheriff or bust.

The gun thing is a non-issue IMO.

I was reading the Zelda thread and it gave me an idea for something to debate on here... in Melee, Sakurai added a lot of clones that would not have been in the game at all if not for the fact that they were clones of other characters.

Would you guys rather have more characters if they had to be clones then not have characters at all?
