I apologize for being a part of causing this argument, but it doesn't make sense.

Hyperfalcon, from the last post I had from you. you said Mario was a DK character because he first appeared in the DK Classic arcade game. Yet now, you say Yoshi isn't a Mario character when he originally appeared in a Mario game if I recall (Super Mario World).

Wouldn't that be a contradiction?

Also, I hardly consider Donkey Kong a main DK series game because it was originally an Arcade game. But thats just me.

The first Mario Bros. game also wasn't really the same sort of platformer as it is known for now.

This is so unnecessary. And HyperFalcon I'd just like to say that just like yesterday, I am seeing you again believe that you are correct. Which simply isn't the right way to be in a speculation thread.
Sorry to bring this back up. But don't you think the number of iconic, well known, characters in smash like Mario, Sonic, Pikachu, DK and so on are a great factor in how many copies are sold? Now with this in mind...don't you think they'd include an icon like Pacman?

Pretty much the way to see it would be that the original series is Donkey Kong, but it spawned two partner series that are distinguished yet connected: Super Mario and Donkey Kong Country.

I'm just going to end my part of this conversation with this, because I really just don't care, and I really don't want to argue with people about crap no one cares about.

Donkey Kong has his own series, and Mario has his own series. They have their own independent series, as do Yoshi and Wario. However, these characters appear in Mario titles repeatedly, showing that their is a connection between them altogether.

You can say that Donkey Kong isn't a Mario character, and I understand where you are coming from. However, it has never been clear to me that Donkey Kong has absolutely nothing to do with the Mario series. I will never be convinced of that. Ever.

Bringing in things like Link and Samus showing up for a miniscule part is irrelevant, as that isn't even nearly the same plane as Donkey Kong and Mario's crossovers have been, but that's not the point either.

The originating argument isn't really a good one because of the flaws that come with it, so lets just stop talking about it, and agree to disagree.

Basically, I agree with Golden.

Back on a Smash Bros. topic.

@ Creator, I would agree with you there. Pac- Man is one of the most popular characters right next to Mario, so i'd say he is the best bet.

I don't see why Donkey Kong would appear first before Mario did when they first appeared in the same game. Also, Mario = Jumpman.

Oh, and Mario and Donkey Kong also share their own sub-series together now, it is called Mario vs. Donkey Kong. ;)

No, you're not reading every post. You'll notice why I changed what I said.

HyperFalcon, from the last post I had from you. you said Mario was a DK character because he first appeared in the DK Classic arcade game. Yet now, you say Yoshi isn't a Mario character when he originally appeared in a Mario game if I recall (Super Mario World).
And Yoshi's timeline appearance is Yoshi's Island DS as the official version, which technically isn't a Super Mario game. They errata'd him to appearing before Jumpman/Adult Mario. Technically, Baby Mario appears first in the timeline, then later on the first Donkey Kong game happens(then DK Jr.), where he is "named" Jumpman. Finally, Mario Bros. happens, where he becomes Mario name-wise. Then Super Mario Bros., and the exact order of games is hard to say after that. There seems to be more than one sequel that doesn't connect to another game. Or in other words, the timeline is up for grabs after SMB 1. Albeit, some things are obvious, like Super Mario World and SMB 3 happen after SMB 1. The order of some games are fully accurate.(World 2 however happens well before World 1 and isn't an actual sequel, it's a prequel to the whole series in general, predating DK as I noted before)

Wouldn't that be a contradiction?
No, because you were ignoring the posts where I was proven wrong and admitted to it. Only looking at the posts towards you and not checking the ones after would give that impression. But you may have missed them, so no biggie. Just read the rest of the topic. :)

Also, I hardly consider Donkey Kong a main DK series game because it was originally an Arcade game. But thats just me.
Donkey Kong is still an actual DK-series game. It started the overall series officially. DK Jr. is the next, then it heads into DK Country, which spun off from it, respectively.

Because we need to talk about every mundane thing possible and blow it up to unnecessarily high proportions for the sake of argument.
I thought that was the only way to pass the time until Smash 4's announcement? Have I been lied to?

Yes you have been lied to, since that's not the only way to pass the time. Read a book, watch a movie, see a rodeo, go sky diving, play Tetris, go to work, rapidly stab your next door neighbor with a rusty spoon, do whatever it takes to pass the time.

Hey no hard feelings. The way I see it, whatever each character is labeled as in Smash Bros. is what series they are from and representing. Originally I meant Yoshi, Wario, Dk, and Diddy as seperate but connected characters. I really should have clarified what I meant. I do that a lot lol:awesome:

So... new interesting topic perhaps?

Looks like the month of romance has begun (February) <3.

Since Ninty is already planning newer consoles/handhelds in the late future, it would make sense if someone new than Sakurai were to direct Smash 5. That is, if there are any notable characters that will be left out of SSB4 or if Nintendo wants a fifth installment.

If this were to happen, Raiden might be a threat to Snake.

I really wish Wario and Waluigi would have a Wario bros. game.

:phone:
Yes!

Or even just make Waluigi one of the main characters in a Wario Ware game.
Waluigi isn't part of any Mario story. Neither is Wario really. He's just a playable character in the sports and party series. It's a shame.

A side scrolling adventure with those two would be great.

One thing I have noticed about Palutena on Japanese sites is that there is skepticism that she will not get in due to already being a part of Pit's moveset (Final Smash). There is a large demand for her though.

Interesting topics eh...

Is Captain Falcon the legitimate son of Ganondorf and Palutena?
Rumors of Takamaru's training for Pit actually being sexual abuse?
Kirby: Your best friend or an psychotic abomination?
Fox gone to touching fuzzy after the disbanding of Star Fox?
R.O.B.'s depression over breaking up with the Power Glove?
The traumatizing story of Lucas's life?
Marth's crossdressing binges?
Link's ADHD and kleptomaniac actions causing the apocalypse for all pottery?
Is Sonic truly the fastest thing alive?
Donkey Kong being a hoarder?
Mewtwo robbing Lucario's house and getting away with 400,000 poffins?
Waluigi's Bridal Boutique causing everyone to become simply too WAAAAAAAAAAbulous?

Yeah, I agree with the connected bit. I didn't notice that till you ninja'd me a bit earlier on this page. Although Wario has little connection to DK and Yoshi, I'd say. All the characters(Yoshi, Wario, and DK/Diddy(and yes, I combined those two for a reason) really have nothing to do with eachother right now. They do have to do with Mario... okay, Diddy himself has zip to do with Mario. But Cranky and the current DK do. Although I guess we have proof Mario is an old timer. Alternatively, DK/Cranky/Jr. have a much smaller life span and grow old fast)

So... new interesting topic perhaps?
I'd say Brian from Quest 64 for SSB4, but almost nobody wants that. :awesome:

Scoliosis, DK is not a Mario character under any condition. He came before Mario, for cripes' sake. Mario is not in the original DK, the character who inspired him is. Which is called Jumpman. They are not even the same person.

Diddy is a Donkey Kong Series character, and the Mario series spun off from the DK series. Yoshi and Wario did originate from Mario, but are their own full series now too. Wario does not count as a Mario character overall anymore, just related to one. He's a Wario character through and through. Same with Yoshi being solely a Yoshi character. And Kamek is also a Yoshi character. And so is Baby Bowser, notably.

Tingle is now a Tingle-series character, and would not fall straight under being a Zelda character. He's the same category as Wario/Yoshi at the moment, true. But do not lump DK and Diddy as Mario characters when they just plain aren't. Diddy didn't even originate is a Mario game, so that doesn't make sense at all.(I can accept Tingle/Wario/Yoshi being part of a series besides their own, but DK and Diddy? They're Donkey Kong characters first and foremost)

Also, btw, Mario's design originated in the DK series, so technically, they're all DK characters if you apply the whole logic of "originated". Being guests in a series does not make you an actual full character from that series. Unless you think Link and Samus are full Mario characters because they appeared in Super Mario RPG. But we both know that's beyond ludicrous.

...Star Fox is not really obscure in general, save Krystal for some. Fire Emblem is way too well known now. Mother is still fairly obscure, and the Zelda series was never obscure.

Wrong, shortly after being in US, Jumpman was named Mario by US team and this spread to Japan. Outside of a rare few arcade games, Jumpman was made Mario. Also DK2 is a sequel and the character that was Jumpman and is still dating Pauline is named Mario.

Wikipedia treats Donkey Kong as a Mario Character (he is listed as a character for the series). Also all the Mario fan sites list Donkey Kong games as Mario series spin-offs.

You may want to read the full topic. That conversation is done with.

And there is a separate Jumpman game on Non-Nintendo made systems. So that's probably another different character from Mario too.(if he was also named Jumpman. It also had Jumpman Jr. Maybe it referenced the DK series for the game names?) What I mean is that the game Jumpman and Jumpman Jr. at best are references to the DK/Jr. games and the name of the character may be Jumpman but has nothing to do with Jumpman/Mario.

@8-peacock-8: No. Brian actually is more than a glove. We have gloves covered. They're called Master Hand/Crazy Hand.

@Volbound: Wikipedia is actually incorrect then. As is everything. Donkey Kong games beyond the arcade games spun off... from Donkey Kong. Yay, more false information being spread. Lovely.

Jumpman = Mario. Donkey Kong 2 proves that. End of Story.

Also DK Jr appeared in the very first Mario Kart, I would say DK is tied in with the Mario series. He was in the original Mario Party, Original Mario Golf, etc.

Also there was a Donkey Kong 3 (Stan the Bugman)

There shouldn't really be a worry about that in general, since it's been proven that characters can switch up different niches between games. A prime example is Charizard.

Old news. You know, like when I admitted to that last page and recited that this page? Read the posts you missed, please.

Which... still doesn't make him a direct Mario character, just a guest in those games. He's still a Donkey Kong character that guest appears in another game. Not that unusual. Wikipedia is wrong because it actually thinks that DK spun off from Mario. Technically, and in reality, it's the other way around. They got their facts wrong and will never be right. DKC is a continuation of the game called Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong starred DK(who became Cranky Kong) and Jumpman(who later was named Mario in only the later Mario games to separate him from the Donkey Kong series. He is the usual star of the overall Mario series, which doesn't include Donkey Kong games(except those that are basically sequels to the original Donkey Kong games, as in Mario VS Donkey Kong. It's not a sequel to any Mario games, to note)

Also there was a Donkey Kong 3 (Stan the Bugman)
Funny thing is that some made a silly theory that Stan is Dr. Mario. Makes little sense, though. The only thing is that Stan... uh, takes over Mario's spot in the Donkey Kong series? Not sure how that makes him turn into that. Silly indeed.

Is this some kind of NEW WAVE of Smash speculation where Isa and Matthew are super agreed upon.

Also HyperFalcon makes this place such a downer to visit.
