Regional Zones should be separated into Brawl & Brawl+Melee/Melee only

I want to know what people think about melee and brawl having separate space to advertise their tournament. Hear me out...

The beast coast team room def has no reason to be segregated, but now that we've made the regional zones more tourney focused, brawl and melee should have separate rooms. I know what you're thinkin, but lemme explain a bit more.

The point of regional zones is to advertise local tournaments nowadays right? Why should I have to read a bunch of tourney titles that I automatically know I'm just not interested in? Majority of people in the smash community primarily play only one game seriously anyways, so why should we all have to read through a bunch of things we arent interested in in order to find stuff we are.

I dunno, feedback from the rest of the community would be cool, just throwin it out there.

I call BS I'm not related to any brawl players. I agree with jfox 100%. I don't think it should be separated 3 times like in his thread title, but just 2 times for brawl and for melee would be fine. Smashboards > Regional Zones > Atlantic north (Brawl) Or Reigonal zones > Atlantic north (Melee).

I made a thread for Brawl in md/va, it links to all upcoming md/va brawl tournaments in the area. makes it easier for new people to find a tournament in their area, without scouring the boards. it's stickied now and is awesome.

other regions should do this!

id like to get some more people to give their opinions. if we had enough support from the community, than its more likely to convince them. so people should keep on posting!

I see no reason to split up these boards.

Asking for it is kind of stupid, we're doing fine with tournaments, I've never had a complaint from someone going, Aww man I was looking for this tournament but it was brawl and it was awashed in melee, or vice versa.

Don't fix what ain't broke.

Hmm

On one hand we have making the whole finding touny process made a lot easier but on the other it would only rip the melee and brawl scene more apart.

That's how I see it and that's exactly what we don't need.

Besides titles in threads can be fairly long they can just keep including "brawl" "melee" or "brawl+" as they are now.

EC Family FTW.

Crismas: More clicking I gotta do? Nahh. I'm lazy enough...

I think it's fine the way it is imo.

I like how almost everyone in here are all Melee players complaining...

Seriously, what bad does it do you to see a couple of threads for Brawl tourneys? Don't click on them. Problem solved.

And where would the state threads go? Or tourneys that are Melee and Brawl? (DSO)

Can we color code the thread titles then? That would make it easily identifiable without tearing apart a constructed notion of family.

Melee = Red
Brawl = Blue
Both = Purple
B+ = Green

Color coating would be a good compromise IMO. I just hate sometimes how if chibo or inui (people who host both games) don't put it in their thread title i gotta go scroll down to the rules and look @ the banned stages real fast to figure out which game is which.

I do find this to be a little lazy. Most people put Melee in the title. Inui RARELY , if at all recently, hosted a melee tournament. It is usually Me, Alukard, Scar, Chibo + random people lol.

Sorry that we have to read har har.

people who are sayin "dont split up the smash family" aren't even making sense. Regional zones is about finding local tournaments, not bs'ing with each other. If anything its lazy to NOT add a new room, not the other way around. All I'm lookin for is a little organization, no
one here is complaining lol.

...like if Melee or Brawl was so popular that the pure number of tournaments being held each weekend would easily go into the next page before being too old then I could see this really happening but that's not the case so I really don't see the need.

Coloring title threads is a nice idea though and I imagine that would be possible.

People are so caught up in the "melee hates brawl" drama to realize that this idea actually makes sense. If you had a search engine, wouldnt you want it to be as accurate as possible according to what you were looking to find? If the answer to that question is "yes, I dont enjoy sifting through junk to find what im searching for" than you probably should also agree with this: It makes more sense to sift through 1 game for tourneys in your area, than to search through 2 games for tourneys in your area, only one of which you play.

you can just control f "melee" or "brawl"

I like being able to see all melee and brawl events that are coming up

if we're gonna split it up, why don't we give md/va our own boards while we're at it

You'd still be able to see all the melee and brawl events coming up just in a more organized and easy fashion. You would just have to look in both sections if you are a player who plays both games. Because many tristate players go to md/va to play and vice versa and we are all EC.

pakman, id be cool with the color coding, but i dunno how they'd do that and if they've never implemented colors into thread titles before it seems unlikely that they'd start now. but yeah, i think the color code in theory is a good solution, i just dont think its gonna happen

I mean they probably should just have some kind of filter technology. You tag a thread with topics like melee brawl tekken etc.. and you can filter it to only show threads with specific tags. In theory this would be pretty cool, but it would require thread creators to tag their threads as well as users to actually use swf features, which they don't really do too often.

Well a comprise is to sticky a thread for us called " tournament finder " . Introduce the purpose of it is to organize where each tournament is being held + the game it is in and provide links to the discussion of it.

remember threads are made to discuss things but to organize just a simple place where links are would be pretty cool. That way newcomers can find everything there for our region.

I think what Jfox is getting at is that in general people are lazy. Having an automated system or structure to show appropiate threads is much much better than having some type of user involved upkeep. Tournaments can slip through the cracks of a user owned Tournament Finder thread. TO's who are newcomers won't know to post info about the tournament in the Finder thread. Said thread owner would have to be diligent, because tournaments are time sensitive as opposed to entries in a player finder thread.

Well I think if the Mod of the thread takes up the responsibility of looking for it. It would be great. Also if we use a proper format it will also change things a lot.

I see how SRK does their tournament forum and it is very organized and structured. If we do that as well things would be a lot more better.

Separating them is still a good idea, however, I think it looks a lot better on us if we showed those "skeptics" that we can "co-exist" whatever that really means you know.

If you have not seen how SRK does it take a look

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=180117

If we are to become a better community we have to become more organized and structured. This is even for newcomers so that they see we are a great community.

I had to click on this today to see if it was melee or brawl. <_<

The MD/VA BTDT -NEXT- Sector B Level, 1 Gaithersburg, MD

I have to do that a lot for md/va stuff if they forget to add it to the title or if its a c3 cause sometimes hats both or if its a chu biweekly. Color coating or separation please.

Also now that i'm a TO I'm find it difficult to find dates for my tournament cause I can't search as clearly as I would like to for tournaments already scheduled.

who cares

its not dividing the community

your just looking for a tourney

i hate to see when the brawl people post on something about melee asking if theres brawl
they cant even read
and when melee players post on something for brawl they do the same thing
and talk crap about brawl

its a great idea
but the only people who are complaining its not are brawlers
or people that are playing both games but mostly brawl

just do it
do it

do it

Just have a melee tourney finder and a brawl tourney finder and sticky them.

Whoever does it should divide them up into regions and such. Regional and National Events should be at the top. Maybe even have a section for the bi-weeklies/monthlies.

I'm suppose to know what BTDT meant?
I mean it has been stickied for over a year now >_>.........

I guess laziness is the main reason for any separation......lrn2forums people! ;)
