Gimpyfish's impression thread is cool and all, but how much credit does it really command? I say not much.

Brawl was the main draw of the show, which required time to wait in line. So let's be realistic and say that Gimpy played around ten 2 minutes matches. So that's 20 minutes of pure game play time, times = 80 mins or 1 hour 20, heck let's just say that 1 and half hour of pure playing time. Oh mind you that during this 1 and half hour game play time, there were crazy booth teens screaming at his ear with down times (wait in line) after every 2 minutes. So he had to accurate remember and report all the show characters, trophies, modes, pokeballs, and stages? And how many matches did he just playing with Bowser? Doesn't sound too legit of a impression to me.

As you may already know, the demo displayed during E for all had 2 different control schemes; the classic or wiimote. It's safe to say that we who read the smashboards are going to use either the GC or Classic controller scheme, right? But that doesn't even matter, b/c who knows how many Gimp's "impression" are derived from the wiimote scheme alone? Once again, doesn't sound too legit to me.

Finally, Gimp's impression is full of bias and personal opinions. Forget about his blatant hype over his favorite character Bowser, who has a weak recovery and huge frame that is screaming garbage tier. Who knows he could be good with FS.....NOT. Forget about his rant over Iks, b/c you can't blame people spamming his Fsmash during their demo time, it's a satisfying move, which gave a impression of slow animations, yes I am aware of his supposed "slowness", but if I remembered it right, Marth wasn't that welcome of a character in Melee as well, until Ken came along of course. I can't believe his rants over Iks' recovery, which is a much better one than Bowser's, plus super armor, what's not to like? You can always use Air Dodges in Brawl to hug the edge.

But the most disgusting feature of Gimpy's post, is that the ridiculous coinings of the supposed and unconformed "advanced techs." How disgusting this is in his post you ask? Well, you named it he wrote it. OMG, a simple explained air dodge to the edge was coined as "wallhug" after the smash player Hugs. A well known Melee tech, the wavelanding, were called, yes, hear this: the moneySlide, or $Slide. But it doesn't end here, no it's not. The most ridiculous and embarrassing feature of Gimp's post is the tech which is now supposely called: Ink Drop, yes I repeat: Ink Drop, from this nobody Inkslide or slingshot or whatever.

It's was pretty much an simple animation after dash that at this point according to Gimp that may or may not be canceled. So Gimp was basically trying to coin a tech that may not even exist or applicable in the first place. Yea it was that disgusting. Forget about his ego, and arrogance, let's just say that his impression is getting out of hand and lost credibility pretty much when it was first started.

My final thought is that being able to attend E 4 all and representing the smashboards should have been regarded a great privilege for Gimp, not an easy opportunity to be taken advantage in the expense of smash community. I am for one is completely disgusted by his post.

Discuss.

i can agree with you on some points, and disagree on others. all in all, remember that these are his opinions and he can voice them however and whenever he wants. he may get the privilege to boast and snob his A** off because he's a mod, but that doesn't give anything he said any power, and the main reason for him to say these things, is still to tell people about this great new game we are all waiting for.

saying that you were "Disgusted" or "Offended" by his post is a little exaggeration IMO, he was posting for positive reasons and nobody said all his nicknames like hugging(which actually sounds cute :-D ) or Ink Dropping(i also second that it's stupid to name an ingame animation after a player, but meh) or $ slide or whatever, you can ignore these and just regard the info.

and i don't think he played remote alone, half of what he says can't be done like that so easily, he would have pointed that out if he was using wii-mote alone.

Bowser's recovery in Melee wasn't that bad. =\ The Bowser things though just sounds like he is excited that Bowser isn't pure garbage.

Plus, he is taking the time to give his impressions which takes alot of work. If you do not appreciate it or do not like what he writes, then fine. Whatever.

I think it's a good thread to get a second opinion in the game for those of us who haven't played it, I just hate how you can't say anything about the game in some threads because some people just go OH no Gimpy didn't say that, and he is the mastermind of Brawl.

Well, someone had to play devil's advocate. The thing you totally overlook is the fact that everyone who reads Gimpy's thread is not ********; we know to take what he says with a large grain of salt as it was demo with limited play time and crappy controllers. I personally enjoy reading his personal takes on each of the characters, I am intelligent enough however, to wait until I try the characters myself before I go forming opinions on them however. Also, I don't see why people give a flying f**k what people call "techniques", there's nothing stopping you from calling them whatever you want. I disagree with you outright insulting the man however, he's simply doing what he can to appease the annoying masses here on the boards. I mean just look around at some of the topics, they're stupid and embarrassing to the board itself, if Gimpy's thread can help cut down on that crap then I think it's definitely a good thing.

I appreciate the fact that you actually use grammar, punctuation, and correct spelling in your posts.

can i close this and warn him for disprespecting mods? i mean seriously wtf

i worked really hard at e for all to get a solid impression of this game WITH THE OTHER COMPETITIVE PLAYERS, even when i wasn't playing i was working with them to try and figure out things i would notice from their matches, this is highly disrespectful to all of my hard work and to be perfectly honest it really frustrates me.

you are being stupid, i got a LOT of gametime here, the lines weren't very long for the first 2 days, and even in the last day you probably got a match every 20 minutes, i was at the brawl booth every day almost every hour the event was open, i'd say i spent a total of 2 hours away from the brawl stage over the course of the 4 day event... so how many hours did i spend at the brawl booth total from that estimate?

well the booth opened at 11 every day, and closed at 8 thursday and friday, 6 saturday, and 4 sunday... so lets see here... thats 9 hours on thursday and friday, 7 on saturday, and 5 on sunday, to be generous i'll remove 5 full hours from the final total, lets just pretend i didn't even go sunday. According to that i got 25 hours of booth time, with one match every 20 minutes or so for the first 18 hours, and after that one every half hour or so, including time watching and working with other competitive players to try and get the best scope of this game possible...

hmmm turns out i did a lot of work at this event. i took a LOT of written notes and recorded them onto my computer as soon as i had access.

EDIT: in referance to controller issues, we had a few players who used almost exclussively the wii-mote based control scheme, while i only played a few matches like that, i did most of my matches with the classic control scheme.
you're an idiot.

Dude... What's wrong with you?

No one's making you take Gimpyfish's post like it's the most truthful post ever. Who said he might not be wrong about a couple of things? Gimpyfish said himself that what he played was just a demo and that there were some things that they didn't have enough time to check out thoroughly.

I for one am quite appreciative of his work for us and want to thank him for the time he actually spent taking notes for us SmashBoarders that were unable to attend E for All. He went out of his way to bring us stuff, you hear?

Yes, he might have a little bias with Bowser but that doesn't mean he's wrong about him getting buffed. Ike IS slow. Haven't you seen the vids? His smashes have quite a bit of lag, but that doesn't necessarily make him a bad character. I for one think he'll be very defensive.

One thing you have to get inside your head, is that Gimpyfish's post is full of HIS IMPRESSIONS. Those are HIS and a couple of his friends IMPRESSIONS. THOSE AREN'T FACTS. Get a ****in' grip. Just because Gimpyfish says "OMG, Ike sucks!" doesn't mean it's true, it's what it felt like.

As for the "adv techs" naming... Gawd, what's it to you? You wanted it to be called the Royal Slide? Eh eh? The Rook drop? Maybe even RoyalHugRook? Please... I don't understand why you're pissed at their naming. Edge Hug is HUGGING the Edge. I don't think it's named after HugS. As for the $Slide it's more of a honor to the player that started using it efficiently, the name's still wavelanding... Don't worry. Ink drop is Ink drop as it's possibly a new adv tech.

Now go cry yourself to sleep and stop trolling mah boards. Thanks.

Honestly, gimpy worked really hard to get these impressions up, and nobody else has even come close to presenting such a complete picture of what the demo is like. I don't know why your so angry about this, but your post is pointlessly hostile.

I see where you're coming from, and I don't really have much to say except that you should take it with a grain of salt or something along those lines. Oh, and naming "Advanced Techniques" this early on is stupid, IMO. Furthermore, the "Ink Drop" most likely is in the instruction book, so I don't think it'll end up being too advanced, just a normal technique. I don't think Gimpy's thread is so important to warranf a sticky, but he's a mod and can do whatever so meh.

The reason you're going to get a lot of greif for this topic is that not only did you sound like a whiny 3-year old, you also called many of the most respected players a bunch of arrogant *******s. You're taking this way to seriously if you're really "disgusted" by a topic ment only to inform. Do you even know what goes on in this community because this topic says you joined only for the brawl forums.

I'd hope this topic gets closed because it wasn't a smart idea to make it in the first place.

This thread is absolutely ludicrous. It's not like any of this **** is set in stone (hell, the "arrogant" Gimpyfish even made it a point to tell everybody that THIS IS A DEMO, NOT THE FINAL COPY OF THE GAME).

I hope you get flamed to high hell, Rook.

You know, the reason trolls troll is because of the responses... If we all just ignore him, he will realize that nobody is paying attention to him and quit.

The fake OC, because I'm nothing like them.

This post couldn't explain more how I feel. You don't have to read his thread, you don't have to agree with him, and you sure as hell don't have to apply his ideas into your own. It is interesting for us as smashers to read his interpretations, granted we take them with a grain of salt, and figure what kind of game this is going to be and to what we can look forward.

In short, don't read it if you don't like it, but know he's not typing a ridiculous amount of information just for the fame that'll last no more than 3 or 4 months.

I don't think a topic closure is necessary. Gimpy, we all know that you and the other competitive players were hard at work trying to analyze the demo. The topic starter should be ashamed. Let his own thread be his own punishment. Many of us, including myself, are very thankful for what you and the others did for us. This guy is clearly stooping to a lower level with insults and not even appreciating such hard work.

And let's even say Gimpy did make a thread that was biased. You mean to tell me that you STILL wouldn't be thankful for some of the news that came from it?

i like how everyone takes gimpy's thread to be the be-all end-all of brawl, i mean seriously guys. he was nice enough to go there and take notes and test things out specifically to answer questions from the boards. and also he says often in his thread that hugo did this or mike haze noticed that, so its obviously a collective effort and not just gimpy talking out of his ***.

geez, so ungrateful -_-

what an ***

Don't sweat it Gimpy, the vast majority really appreciates all of the time you've put into all of this. Other forums included. The problem here is that morons tend to be outspoken.
