I think this really depends on how well the balancing team do in the final product and I have faith that they can pull it off considering they balancing team has 12 people (more than any other Smash game) all of which work for Namco, a developer that is very experienced with fighting games. However, Smash is a very difficult game to balance and with a very large cast, there are going to be clear better and worse fighters.

Nah. Not now. Well, maybe but probably not. Sonic only got one stage in Brawl and it has that same stage this time around. The new one is on Wii U. Mega Man has the same stage twice. Pac-Man is the only exception so it is possible but both of his stages have somehing unique about them.

Character balance has never been a strong aspect of Smash Bros., so I wouldn't be surprised if Smash 4 were patched. Even if Sakurai and his team put as much effort as possible into balancing the roster before launch, some high-level player with plenty of time on his/her hands will probably find broken shenanigans of some kind.

Balance Patches: Chance: 70% He said himself they'd do it if there are huge imbalances. Though with all his talk on how hard it is to make a character, I feel they may have nailed the balance this time and not find the need to bother.

Want: 20% Many fighters do this correctly, however, I have a fear this would get too wild like Battle Royale patches occasionally did. I mean, that game is pretty much the prime example of "One week later...more nerfs/buffs", and it got ridiculous with how bad some changes got.
Due to Namco and Sakurai seeming dedicated, I'm confident the initial build will be fairly balanced, really I'd only want any unfair balance, or bad (and I mean BAD) tiered characters, to get fixed through this, if present. But frequent balance patches, which normally happens with fighters, would be annoying. In a simple fighter like this, I don't think they'd be necessary if they nail it close enough the first time, and I know how painful it is to see your character getting hit with the nerf hammer (when they don't need it) in the same game.

Sonic 3DS Stage (not Green Hill): Chance: 15%. I don't think it'll happen. I've alway's thought the classic stages are there because the characters won't get a second stage. Hope I'm wrong though.
Want: 100% Anyway to get some more Sonic music in the 3DS version.

These things would've made some difference in the previous games, huh? The competitive community's learned to work around vast imbalance--for better or worse--but would they no longer need to this time around?

There're two things in play here. On one hand, Nintendo isn't known for paying super close attention to projects after they finish them, making it kinda up in the air whether they'd notice any major balance issues enough to patch them. On the other, though, they have Bandai-Namco backing them up, and they're paying much more attention to detail this time around. It seems reasonably likely that we won't have to worry about any game breakers this time around.

A chance to avoid a repeat of Brawl's Meta Knight and Ice Climbers and a chance to avoid the overcentralized gameplay of the past two games? Of course I'm on board with that.

We've seen nothing regarding Square Enix at all. No interaction, no news, nothing to hint at a trophy or something more making it in SSB4. The only piece of evidence leaning toward one of SE's franchises getting content in the games is the fact that Rayman made it in...which barely helps their case. From what I've heard, Nintendo helped publish the Japanese version of Rayman Legends, meaning there was some connection there already.

Maybe I'm off the mark, and we see a slime trophy...but I really doubt it'll happen.

Believe it or not, I've yet to play a Dragon Quest game. I have a few thoughts on the series, but I don't feel like I'm informed enough to pass judgment on it.

Would Sonic be able to buck precedent? Mega Man and Pac-Man have had one stage per version revealed so far, with it looking unlikely either will get more. Sonic is a veteran, though, and he could get special treatment...or maybe Green Hill Zone is being treated as a returning stage, and not as Sonic's 3DS stage.

Overall, though...I don't like the odds.

I'm not confident about this game's balance, but I still think it'll more likely than not be good enough for the team to let it slide.

No game is perfectly balanced first time, but making too many patches doesn't let a meta-game form. It depends who they base their balance patch system on, but I see it more the Blazblue system with patches being intergrated into some new content addition, which'd be great!



Dragon Quest: 25%
On the one hand Dragon Quest is huge! Inteligent Systems have made a spin-off in the form of Dragon Quest Wars, and Slime's had plenty of crossovers with the Mario gang. Nintendo published the games outside of Japan for a while, and the series has been Nintendo exclusive for a while (and will probably remain that way for a little longer).

On the other hand Square Enix have been dragging their feet so much with the series that it hurts. We've been getting news about Dragon Quest for over a year now with ESRB and copyrights, hints about new games in development and much much more which all hinted to something big happening; followe by VIII and IV getting mobile releases and a slow trickle of nothingness and waiting.

Honestly Square Enix are pretty dumb, and they often don't know a good thing when they've got it, so if they got a chance to a trophy (or a playable character that's practically deconfirmed at this point), it's not too hard to imagine them avoiding it while they wipe their arses on the tomb Raider bank notes they got from Microsoft.

Also there's the problem of their pride, I don't see a huge chance of SE accepting anything less than a playable character... and then not allowing a playable character... Basically Square Enix are dumb.

As a Dragon Quest fan the fact that all these hints and news stories still makes me think something's happening, but that Square Enix are being hugely dumb about it, and I don't expect it to work out well for them... Still the scale and popularity of Dragon Quest in the east, and the closeness the series has to the console does give me decent hope for a trophy or two.

Dragon Quest is my second favourite video-game franchise ever (just behind Puyo Puyo), of course I'd like to see something in the best video-game crossover in the world. I'd be super excited just to see a trophy at this stage, but honestly I want Slime playable someday, and I think this is the best bet for him getting such an honour in later games.

On the other I have no confidence in Smash 4 what-so-ever. The 'leak' has shaken my belief and I new foresee t being worse than Brawl in most ways, so yeah, I expect they'll leave it as is and just run off with their cash bags as they know it's going to sell.
