Damn my high standards... Working on my music packs has made me second guess a bunch of my song choices, and it's slowing down my process because I have to test new songs. I don't want to post anything unless I'm 100% satisfied with every song on the stage.

Random question! I know this has probably been asked a billion times, and you guys are hard at work; but after all the Brawl characters have been M'd and added, aside from bug fixes, is it possible for you guys to add characters? Such as Mewtwo, or even Ridley or King K. Rool? I don't pretend to fully grasp what kind of magic you put into Project M, but I'm just asking from a desperate fanboy point of view!

most likely the only non-brawl characters that would ever make it into project M would be MewTwo and Roy and possibly another of the five that were in melee that were left out of brawl (but all of them have essentially been replaced or had no real fanbase for how clone-ish they were). Anyone beyond that is more or less out of the question since there are so many characters to pick from and opening the door for even just a few risks inflating the character cast unnecessarily as well as forcing PMBR to work from nothing. MewTwo and Roy also have the advantage of having previous properties and movesets to work from, as well as lots of work having been done by other hackers to provide models and such for them in-game. The issue however is getting these characters into the game without replacing any other characters. Typically, most of the hacks you see on places like brawlvault work by replacing the files of another character. Since every character must have a file to read off of, containing everything the game needs to know and show to have a working character, PMBR will have to figure out what needs to be done add those file and have them function properly. Which apparently is a very difficult task.

I have little to no coding experience, so I could be way off, but here's how I think it is:

I believe Brawl counts the four alloys as characters, too (also Warioman and Giga Bowser, that aside). These four characters you can add to the roster, so in theory you could get a roster of up to 39 characters and a random button.

However, because PT is split up in three characters and Samus in two, we already 'lose' three out of for alloy slots ((3-1)+(2-1)). I think that only leaves one slot to be filled by a character that could be created by the PMBR. There's also one question mark on the Project M character page, which somewhat supports this idea.

Again, this is how I interpret the situation, I could be way off.

That is incorrect. All the pokemon trainers and Samus/zamus have their own game files. The only issue there was adding icons, which is easy for PMBR to do. They didn't overwrite the alloys for them. So all the alloy files are still the same. However, there are lots of things that are basic character abilities or move that the alloys can't do and PMBR doesn't know how to add, so trying to place new/new-old characters on the slots over them wouldn't work if you wanted to give them specials, dodges, and other things.

@bubba
Roy has a larger fanbase. Hence the "had no real fanbase" modifier for the "clonish" statement. Yes, Roy was more clonish. But a lot more people also want him back. Additionally, being a clonish low tier character is of less significance in P:M since PMBR are more likely to declone the non-high tier characters, due to them needing changes anyways.

Really, oh wow, that is awesome.

Though, I do suspect the PMBR figured something out, based on the question mark as seen on the character page I linked to in my previous post.

I was under the impression that the question mark stood for random. Although PMBR has stated that returning a left out veteran would interest them if it could be done without cutting corners...

Actually, I've seen YT vids of Brawl hacks with working clone engines that have multiple additional CSS slots open and filled up by other chars. There are more additional CSS slots than there are alloys, or whatever, so it would seem that they have discovered how to actually add full characters. I don't know if these guys are sharing notes with the PMBR though, so it may be knowledge that P:M does not have access to yet.

You can add icons, but you can't add characters that don't exist. The CSS fits up to 50 icons; that doesn't mean that there are 50 characters though.

Those added characters actually replace other characters. Usually someone like GaW or Olimar because nobody likes them lol.

they could have replaced alloys or something, but that wouldn't be full chars...

could you find one of those vids, bubba?..

Looking for it now, but I think I found it randomly, or maybe I was mistaken, so don't get your hopes up. :(

I really like this stage someone came up with.

Perhaps the PMBR should consider replacing another unwanted stage with this? :cyclops:

Edit: During my search, I found THIS. Apparently, someone figured out how to port Mewtwo into a P:M 2.1 environment. Problem is that it is placed over another character, so this isn't a fully-successful clone engine feat yet. :ohwell:

Yeah clone engine rumors have been around for a while, I wouldn't give the issue much attention though. Would be cool, but as of right now, its not possible.

MewTwo models and such have been around for awhile now. They aren't particularly rare or impressive or anything like that. UNLESS they had been able to do it without replacing anything, which I doubt was the case...

Yeah I've had a mewtwo module since forever ago. They didn't exactly port mewtwo in that video. They just got his module and animated stuff them selves and did hitboxes.

Also that bowser's castle stage is really cool, they just need to fix the lag. There's even noticeable lag in 1v1 matches.

Yeah, the latest Mewtwo PSA does work in P:M but I would would highly advise against replacing Lucario with it. As much as I love Mewtwo, he's not improved from Melee at all and the animation while pretty good for a one man effort are not up to PMBR's quality standarts.

Last we had any progress updates on the clone engine was about 2 years ago. So it's pretty difficult to tell if it's ever going to happen but going by the magic the PMBR has been working I would not rule out the possibility just yet =V

i remember hearing that there was an alternate file loader or something back in the days of brawl+, it was something like just hold a button on the character select to load a different file, or hold a button to load a different stage on the stage select or something like that. w/.e became of that?
