I'll be booking my flight to APEX after I get my schedule for next semester figured out. Gotta enroll soon. I checked and it'd be a lot cheaper to bus to STL and fly from there, but I really don't want to 3 times as much time traveling lol.

Hylian, exactly, and that's the case for almost everyone, really. The post stands as truth even if people don't care about getting better at all, so it's good that it's there than not, even if nobody cares at all. There are actually VERY few people who seem to actually focus on improving their personal play, and ever fewer actually focusing on developing the PM meta-game.

I don't know why my post would come across as 'focus on getting good or bust' as there's nothing about that, but it's a lot of stuff in relation to that if/when someone would want to, considering that was the point of the post.
Hopefully people (including you) can see it clear enough to know better, and I'm sure everyone does.

My posts often spark nerves/annoyance, no matter how strongly they stand as truth, and they're important regardless of how someone might take it. (burdening to their perception of fun, or not) Especially considering how universally they apply.

lol Oro, lrn-2-roy-dtilt/sideb and stop jumping into arpe < friendly reminder whether you like me for it or not ;)
Crouch-Jab? Zard?
Not for Kinky.

Is that a character from something specific?
That's hilarious and awesome!

I'm going to see how financially realistic it'll be for me to fly back to America so I can attend Apex.

IRC chat is amazing sometimes

<Strong_Mad>: so how have you been learning patient play?
<JCaesar>: i dunno, there's no trick to it, i just force myself to camp and poke and wall and look for openings
<JCaesar>: i try never to approach
<JCaesar>: but i still do
<JCaesar>: i can't help it
<Strong_Mad>: hmm
<Strong_Mad>: i can help you with that
<JCaesar>: at least i use a gyro to approach
<JCaesar>: which almost always works
<Strong_Mad>: i want you to reframe patience
<Strong_Mad>: i don't actually think patient play is a good idea
<Strong_Mad>: you lose a lot of the good things that go with being proactive
<Strong_Mad>: usually what i tell people is
<Strong_Mad>: it's not that you have to wait
<Strong_Mad>: it's that you GET to wait
<Strong_Mad>: and being able to choose when you engage your opponent is REALLY REALLY UNFAIR
<Strong_Mad>: because conditions change constantly throughout the match
<JCaesar>: haha
<Strong_Mad>: so instead of "i have to wait here"
<Strong_Mad>: force yourself to think "ok i GET to wait and i can try to change the conditions of the match until something good happens for me"
<Strong_Mad>: usually that makes it much easier
<JCaesar>: i get what you mean
<Strong_Mad>: so when you throw the gyro
<Strong_Mad>: it's not like
<JCaesar>: and it's not like i ignore opportunities in favor of waiting
<Strong_Mad>: ok i'm gonna harass them and go in
<Strong_Mad>: think of it like
<JCaesar>: it's just my go-to neutral state
<Strong_Mad>: putting out a fishing line?
<Strong_Mad>: maybe they'll bite, maybe not
<Strong_Mad>: either way, you're fine
<Strong_Mad>: the gyro is a good way to change the conditions of the match
<Strong_Mad>: same w/ falco lasers
<Strong_Mad>: it's not like every falco approach is laser laser shine, it's like, shoot them until they jump, and then bair them because i got to wait for them to jump ha ha ha falco is stupid
<Strong_Mad>: (falco is REALLY stupid)
<JCaesar>: hmm ok
<JCaesar>: i will think on this
<Strong_Mad>: it's just reframing how you look at it
<Strong_Mad>: but like everything else, you can practice how you see the world and how you interact with it from there
<Strong_Mad>: it's a very powerful tool in and out of smash
<Strong_Mad>: anyway it should at least solve the patience thing
*** Strong_Mad is now known as Umbreon

That's so incredibly on topic and directly exampling the last couple pages of rants. WP Umbreon, WP.

Edit: Much like what I think Hylian miiiight have been trying to hint at, to make things like this be less intimidating to people...
Changing the way you see is an EFFORTLESS thing. Getting better shouldn't take effort. It shouldn't be tough, or a struggle. It's fun to just 'play' the game, and it can be just as fun, if not more, to 'improve' while playing.
After all, life is a pretty freaking fun game. <3
Thanks for the context Umbreon.

Wise words of wisdom. I am so going to apply this to my attempts to learn Melee Samus. And PM Pit and ROB. Reminds me of Wobbles's analysis of Hugs. Which is in my sig.

Wobbles and Hugs are sexy.
The Wobbles quote that Caoypoo (also sexy) quotes at the end of the final Smash Documentary episode... is the best part of the whole thing.

This one...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaTpiP7CJKM#t=14m25s

Why are there always 2 siths, and what is that referring to?
*totally unfamiliar with Starwars
*does a Darth Vader breath thing, thinking it's relevant and purposeful

Is Jolteon the pretty one? lol
(I love the Pokemon... but it's been taken...)

Edit: I haven't been Double-Post pwned by Smashboards yet, but I think I've been glitched in about 10 other ways...

Editedit: I'm making 6 Apple Crisps at the same time right now... get @ me.

Sith Tradtion, there's only ever 2 siths, a master and his apprentice, in order to maintain secrecy. This was put in place after some silly sith vs jedi war that's part of the extended universe where like all the sith died and a lot of the jedi died but not all of them, and some sith dude turned his mind into a giant bomb that blew up a planet. Or something like that. I'm not actually sure, but the only 2 sith thing is only really mentioned like once in the movies and no other explanation is really given.

Not necessarily just for the secrecy. With only two, one being the clear superior, the Sith could better focus their training and overall dogma. The Master/Apprentice relationship gave a clear cut path and goal for the two Sith to use their power without the order destroying itself; the Master, though superior, would need to watch their back and keep their "power level" up as best as possible while teaching the Sith ways to the next gen...and the end goal of the Apprentice was to one day be able to best the Master, proving himself the superior, and then take on an apprentice of his own to continue the cycle. It was a good way for the Sith to keep themselves sharp without succumbing to the infighting that inevitably occurs when a bunch of power hungry Sith bunch together.

So what happened to the Sith when both Vader and the Sith Lord died?
As well, if Umbreon is the new Sith Lord, (I assume he's more disgusting usually, and better at directly getting messages across), and I'm the new Apprentice (as I suck at getting messages across, and I'm new to public-forums), then 2 things need to happen.
1) We shut up and stop helping people, and keep the secrets to ourselves.
2) We have to battle to the death when we meet, and when I think I'm ready.

If we ever meet, mass-roster MM...
Otherwise, the Sith traditions will probably only be in effect when we are doing so, therefore we can trick others into thinking the true secrets are being spilled, but never reveal them all.

I'll actually do that roster-thing with literally anyone and everyone, if and when I ever meet any of you in either Melee on Project: M.
+plans on traveling sometime soonish
