Found my old GBA link cable and Plum was right. Battling yourself is fairly entertaining. But I keep predicting wrong and losing to myself. ;[

I'm forced to do linear algebra, even though I'm in health sciences.
That's not so bad, there's some sense to it.
I had to take Psychology as part of Computer Science.

The only possible explanation I've been able to think of is that they must've thought "These ****ing nerds don't know how to interact with people"

At the moment the best controller you could buy would be the first party white controllers from Amazon.
If you get it from here you also support Smashboards.
They are definitely pricey (too bad you missed out on the sale that Smashboards had through their Amazon store, they were selling them for $25), but the only place to still get new Gamecube controllers at the moment.
All signs point to Nintendo making more Gamecube controllers for Smash 4 though. You don't just tease us a sexy as hell controller with a flaming Smash logo in the center and then not make them. Assuming they make more when Smash 4 rolls around the corner, I would have to imagine they would be cheaper than the Amazon white controllers.

Aside from the white controllers or waiting for the new Smash 4 controllers, your options are getting lucky at old game stores, garage sales, Craig's list, etc.
Good luck with that though... As somebody who works at an old game store, we very rarely see first party Gamecube controllers. First party NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PS1, PS2, Xbox, etc. we have those in spades. First party Cube controllers doe? Naaaah.
And college kids come in several times a week asking if we have them, in addition to Melee itself, Double Dash, Mario Party, and the like. Finding good Gamecube stuff is so hard man... and makes me happy I just still have the entirety of the good Gamecube games from when I was young.

You have any Game Boy Players lying around? Probably without the startup disc, I imagine. One of the best reasons to own a Cube.

Why do people keep flipping out every time Azen goes somewhere as if it's his first time in years, when we've clearly gone through this exact process a bunch of times every other time he went to something?

We have a few copies of Super Game Boy, a couple of the N64 Pokemon Stadium addons, but no Game Boy Players :(
I'm tellin ya, our GCN section is the most scarce of the actual popular systems. Obviously more obscure stuff like TurboGrafx is worse off... but that's kind of a given.

Azen playing Melee is hype and all... but we all know who we really want to see playing Melee again.
And sadly it won't ever happen. Isai pls

I need to put my copy of Y to more use.
Aside from GSC which I still replay on a pretty regular basis I play each generation a couple times through and then just jump on whatever the simulator of choice is at the time to battle.
I always tell myself that this will be the generation I actually breed my teams in game, but I never do...
Sapphire, how long does it really take to breed good Pokemon? If there's any generation I would actually get into it, it would be this one for sure with all the breeding mechanics they added.

It's the combination of things that make getting a good team a hassle

Breed for abilities.
Breed for Natures.
Breed for good IV's.
Breed for moves (Optional).
EV train the pokemon.
Level the Pokemon up to 50.

Then you do all of this for a pokemon you thought would be good, but ends up being useless or extremely niche.
After doing this since Generation 4, it's a ****ing annoyance.

As much as I love pokemon, I really really REALLY would kill for some change in the battling style.

Unless you're training a legendary, in which case good luck getting the nature or IVs you want. Pokegen that ****.

It's funny because Pokemon rom hacks provide items that allow you to see your IVs and EVs and even change them and your nature with specific rare items / people (IV Stones, therapist to change nature). GF should really do something like this. Ability Capsule is a step in the right direction (as expensive as it is and it doesn't give you DW abilities)

Breeding and training is a lot easier now, especially with the new mechanics and everyone and their dog has Pokerus, but it's still fairly tedious. Kinda why I haven't touched X in a while because I'm like "Ahhh ****, this team is outdated now and would get crushed, I need to make a whole new team...ah **** that"

Vashhhhhhhhhhh play me in showdown
Hell anyone play with me...... ;)
I'm playing Mario 3, no

It's still too tedious for me.

I'm literally sick of it. But that's fine because I have almost every pokemon I want fully trained aside from a couple of stragglers that are sitting at like level 20-40ish.

Now I'm at the REAL HASSLE.

GETTING THE ITEMS I NEED.

**** costing like 48 BP when im getting 1 a match, or like 3+(?) for an extremely bull**** match.

These fights aren't even really fun or interesting at all. They are just generic to me and I don't consider it worth doing it since it's essentially a nonstop mode.

If they made it interesting then I'd probably do it.

At it's best, the PWT was essentially the same thing, but you get to fight familiar faces with their gym leader shenanigans. Add in remixed music from older games, much more battle points, and the definite goal of being the champion of each tournament, and you've got something that is more worth spending time on to get BP.

Battle frontiers offer a variety of gimmicky battle styles and make getting items more interesting as well.

-----------------

The REAL salt in the wound is the fact that I couldn't take my items over from gen 4 to gen 5, which after I reobtained them in gen 5, CAN'T BE TAKEN OVER TO GEN 6.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Breeding has definitely come a long way since all the fixes in Gen 6, that's for sure XD

I've heard people say it takes approximately 30 mins to breed a good team, but what they don't tell you is that in order to breed that quickly you need to have really good friend safari Pokes (every Poke is guaranteed 3 perfect IVs, but in who knows what), Destiny Knot, Everstone, and a whole lot of patience.

To be honest they probably meant it takes 30 mins to EV train a good team, which is definitely possible thanks to Super Training.

Breeding semi-perfect Pokes still takes a while and perfect Pokes take even longer. Destiny Knot improves this issue by a massive factor but it's still time consuming. Definitely not doable in 30 min.

I'd say, assuming you had to do everything yourself, it would take you a few days to two weeks to get a viable, semi-perfect team with the natures you want and max EVs. I remember back in other Gens something like that would take several weeks or even more than a month.

Ah yeah, if you have things like Oval Charm and Hatching Power 3 things will go much faster, but the fact is that you still have to keep breeding and no Pokemon is guaranteed semi-perfect or even perfect, even if you breed two perfect Pokemon with Destiny Knot. So yeah, there's still that chance factor which is why it will still take a while, but not nearly as long as other Gens. Tbh having real Pokemon that are just as viable as gen'd Pokemon in the current timeframe is very rewarding, and props to Game Freak for making this possible. :p

If you got a 6 IV Ditto, you can breed a perfect 5 IV in a few minutes.
Mmm, I've only heard perfect meaning 6IV, and semi-perfect is 5

But I've never managed to get a 6IV Ditto so that could be the key there. It's pretty difficult, since Ditto's can't breed you need someone with a Ditto safari and a whole lot of Pokeballs and time. That or you trade a legendary for one on the GTS and hope that it's actually a 6IV Ditto and not someone looking for a free legend.

There's also still chance involved if you do get one to breed with, but it would definitely speed things up a lot.

Horde Training >>>>>>> Super Training

Much quicker and you can even train multiple Pokemon at once with it. I don't even touch Super Training unless I'm doing a custom spread.

Really? How can you guarantee horde encounters though?

I mostly specialize in HA breeding and IV breeding is something I only do on the side, so I don't know about quick EV training other than Super Training.

There's probably only like 3 perfect IV ditto's that are actually legit.

The rest of them were probably cloned or generated.

Horde encounters are guaranteed by sweet scent.

So long as there is no rain in the area.

its insane rate too.

Horde of floatzel
2 speed EV's each. Power anklet makes that 6 speed evs each
Pokerus doubles each one to 12 speed EVs each

12 x 5 = 60 speed EVs

4 battles gets you to 240, and one super training gets up 12 evs IIRC. Clean 252.

Sigh..... I need a 5/6IV Ditto.... because I don't want this next Poke to take as long to IV breed as the 5IV Skarms..... I have someone with a Ditto Safari.... and a box called Ditto Central, but I don't see myself getting a 5IV Ditto this year with that rate...
