So PM Social took a strange turn last night...

I actually got back from a date today that had me go from: walking at a park (that *gasp* wasn't closed by GOV'T LOCKDOWN MACH 1) that went to walking around the mall, running into someone from just about all of my old/new social circles (old classmates from HS/College, fellow Mash-ABlood homies, football teammates and etc) to talking to one of her closer friends who was working for like 45 minutes, to eating and then going back to her place for some good old fashioned...




VIDEO GAMES.

And this was my first date in like 4 years. But, uh... yeah. The dating/seeking experience mostly sucks for everyone, but only you know what you want/need out of it. Just keep at it until you find someone that is interesting enough for you to spend time with and structure whatever relationship comes from that from there.

Also, it's like... okay to be single.

You should always be kind to be people, but you don't have to be nice.

When I was in high school, one of my old good friends came off as an arrogant ****, and I thought he was at first. But over time, he's stood up for me, bailed me at out of fights, and pushed me out of my comfort zone even if I resisted (he once threatened to beat me up and hook up with my crush if I didn't make a move with her first). Which yeah, seems kinda of extreme now, but we'd still round up the guys and play Smash and Halo on the weekends, you know what I mean? He was athletic, he was cocky as ****, and of course got all the ladies. But like me, he wasn't the most popular guy around (probably due to his jerkish nature), so he likely came to appreciate me and my circle of friends for sticking by him and treating him right. He was a generous and kind person in his heart. He wasn't nice, but I didn't mind that cuz he was still a good friend. Only years later would I realize and truly appreciate it.

I actually kind of miss him now. Everyone needs an assh0le that is fun to be around somewhere in their lives in my eyes, and I haven't met one like him since.

Well, a problem I've always had with women, is that often, the one I meet have no tolerance for the fact that I'm a gamer. Like seriously, I show that I'm capable of limiting my video games play time and they're like "No, games are bad, it's immature".

My response: "Are you really trying to completely make me give up my favourite hobby?" and I just walk away. The ones I've met who are more tolerant on the matter have boyfriends, so no luck there. In a sense, that's what I mean abiut not giving up what I am. Making concessions is one thing, giving up all of my freedom does not interest me however.

That is why if you find a lady friend who cares about you enough to respect your hobbies, you should cherish that person and not take them for granted. They're rare.

The thing that sucks about being a vocalist is that if you tell people, they go "Omg, you sing?! Sing us a song right now!" and there's no music playing, and I'm just supposed to pick a song off the top of my head.

that's how it is for musicians. **** anytime someone sees me with my sax they are like "OMG YOU PLAY THE SAX!!! PLAY FOR ME PLEEEAASSEE". Or i just get asked to play for a gig somewhere randomly. but hey i enjoy the randomness

I wasn't sure where else to post this, but I wanted to ask, why is it that I STILL see people not jump-canceling their grabs? Is doing that not good now for some unknown to me reason? If I can turn off tap jump, that'd be awesome, but I jump cancel my grabs my sliding my control stick up while I grab, which works all the time. Getting used to X/Y (I NEVER use Y for anything and I jump only with X), to jump cancel has been hard. So I'd really like to know.

Well some characters actually do have some really good dash grabs now which you really didn't see in Melee, and there's also characters with good boost grabs.
If you're talking about people playing characters who should be JC grabbing and are not then I don't have an answer.

^Well, see, I don't know off the top of my head which characters have good dash grabs, besides, maybe, Meta Knight? And even that I'm not sure. I'm just so used to jump canceling all of my grabs that I'm not exactly sure anymore.

Characters who might have reasons not to JC grab:

Wario (dash grab is variable and looks like Side B)
DK (He slides during this and can grab from incredibly distances with it)
Sheik (Boost grab is very useful)
Ness (Same principle as DK)
MK (Same as DK)

This is all I can think of atm. A few characters have boost grabs, but not sure if there's a noticeable distance difference/if it's worth the lag.

I'm often too lazy, just like escaping from grabs requires you damage your control stick getting enough inputs to hopefully break out in time. Also with Mario/Luigi, sometimes I feel like dying rather than getting the necessary Down-b height to live lol. Metroid and Vro do some of the craziest WDOOS to JC grabs I've seen though. I use your method of JC with the control stick, I question if I should try using X/Y more as well. I wouldn't recommend using tapjump for multi-shines for controller health.

I've got trouble synchronizing my right index and thumb because no AT in Brawl require both these fingers to move in unison. So I just set L to jump. I wavedash and JC grab by simply pressing both shoulder buttons.
This should help you get an alternative if you do remove tap jump, RPGsFTW.

In Brawl, people used boost grabbing with pivots because you could basically retreat with a grab (or cross people up backwards with a grab). The actual "boost" in boost grab is cancelling a dash attack with grab. The idea is that you cancel your DA momentum and slide forward with a grab

Using X/Y to Jump Cancel grabs feels super duper natural. Especially out of a dash. Only time it doesn't is with Fox or Falco, when you're trying to JC grab out of Shine.

I tried to find a video, but all I was getting was the Brawl tech too.
It's basically a DACUS but performing a dash grab instead of an Usmash. I'm pretty sure that similar to DACUS, every character can do it, but not every has a useful boost grab. Sheik is the most notable example because she gets a noticeable slide in addition to the already pretty good distance she gets from her standard dash grab. Like, even when you DI away and roll away she can still get the tech chase on you with the boost grab.

Not everyone can DACUS or Boost Grab IIRC (I mean period, as in literally not allowed to do those instead of getting unnoticeable ones). Has to do with their individual Dash Attack.

For any VirtualDub users here, I'm having trouble compressing my audio. Whenever I choose a compression option using the MPEG Layer-3 codec and try to start capture, I get this:

that's because virtualdub is ancient, and it's going to be broken. get amarectv, get a good codec that's not the default one, because that one gives a watermark. problem solved

Can you change your AVI to a girl's ass please? Unless that happens to be Freddie Mercury.

Also I've had too many issues trying to get AmarecTV to work and it doesn't look like it has all that many options when Virtualdub is relatively easy to record and then do my settings to get a 720x1280 resizing and anti-alias

Ever have the experience of going into a store, getting your crap, the girl cashier is chatting and smiling with the guy in front of you at the check out line, and then when it's your turn up she suddenly gets a nasty look on her face and is very terse with you?

Usually I chalk up those kind of experiences as the person is having a bad day, but then when I see someone turn the charm on and off like that, I think it's really that their being a jerk when they want to be and therefore deserve little respect in return.
