Lovage use to use control stick to SH with Fox, but he forced himself to use X/Y for aerials so he could get adequate distance

I can get adequate distance because of the way I hold the controller.

First and foremost as a game mod, we are still under certain legal obligations and restrictions. To stay in Nintendo's good graces and to avoid attracting Cease & Desist letters from 3rd party companies, we are limiting our choice of new characters to those that Nintendo has already licensed for inclusion in Brawl. In other words, that restricts us to characters that already appear in the game in some way, such as trophies, assists, or stickers. Additionally, to avoid appearing as competition to Smash U/3DS sales in Nintendo's eyes, we do not have any plans to try to "back port" any new Smash 4 characters to Project M.

Mmm, yes. Validation for my earlier points.

Yes. Mmm.

Edit: Even if this isn't 100% true it will be nice to stop the train of requests for stupid characters like my original OC Donut Steel

After reading the blog post about the clone engine I have a question. It mentioned the problems with the new character and their results data. Will this data appear normally under the statistics screen with all the other characters? Like will it track Roy KOs and show him on the top rankings (if he gets in the top however many it shows) like it does now? Just curious on how in depth the PMBR went with that.

I use up >_>. What's wrong with up?
The main idea was that my friend claimed to be good when he was completely unaware of extremely basic things like short hopping.
But still, I just don't see how anyone can short hop consistently like that lol.

That's not Double Claw, that's just Claw with the left hand. Double is with a finger over the Right front-buttons (X/etc)
I Double Claw, you poser! ;)

Claw (with the right hand) is necessary for a lot of particular things (Peach FC aerials going opposite direction to them), in terms of optimizing 'adequate distance' or however somebody put it. Otherwise, it's actually worth practicing just for the sake of efficiency in terms of energy spent towards button-pressing. Double Claw if you want to not move you fingers at ALL while playing.
Be interesting to know what Silent Wolf does, since he's infamously light on his controller. I encourage everyone to be as light on it as possible.

Also, Hugs didn't know what Short Hopping was when he won his first tournament. ;)

You mean, you don't think short hopping consistently is reasonable?
Or was that a mis-spelling?

I don't see how you see short hopping consistently to be something anyone can't do. lol ;)

Shorthopping out of shine for double lasers is easier with up for me, otherwise I stick to Y for max distance.

If yours work, please tell me the exact model so I can buy it, you'll have all my gratitude C:

Another tech question while I'm at it, I've only seen P:M get booted from a SD card yet, is it possible to boot it fom the HDD too so I don't have to buy a new HDD and a new SD card, but just the HDD ? :V

I personally use a WD Elements 750GB 2.0 USB HDD to boot Brawl and use CFG Loader, it's the best one out there. I don't think there's a current way to boot from an HDD, I still boot from my SD card.

If you go Claw, you can X/Y > B and actually get full horizontal momentum in either direction by having a completely free control stick + hand. :D

*nitpick

Hylian doesn't do what's known as 'Claw' (according to that video), he does a lefty-Claw thing. The functional/conventional Claw is with the right hand, freeing up the left entirely for movement control (which is the reason anyone from M2K/Armada/BO10/many others, to newbies would bother intentionally attempting to adjust to it).

Edit: For clarification, this would look like the index finger hovering over the X button, and pressing it with the knuckle, for example.

There's a lot of things I love about P:M, 5 or so of the major ones (which I can ramble on about each) are:
- Using a Light press air dodge (currently only in the Wifi build)
- Using a 1 frame Buffer (currently only in the Wifi build)
- SHs being 1 frame easier (Due to Brawl's coding check for button release on the last frame possible vs Melee's checking 1 frame before the last frame possible)
- Running Up-smash not requiring a JC
- Turning Brawl's AGT into a magnificent directionally moving masterpiece.

I am very content with everything as it is as of now, but I have a fear that they will one day develop a hard press air dodge code that works for Wifi, making the Light press cease to exist in any of the P:M builds. One solution if possible to pursue would be to have Light press still be an option able to be selected in the customized controller setup. Light shielding in the way they code it could also possibly obliterate the Light press air dodge (it would also complicate using light press air dodge a bit, but its benefits would still be great).

I've played Marth/Zelda in 1.0, Ike in 2.1, and Diddy/Pit in 2.5. I can take characters I play being changed, but nothing would compare to my distraught from Light press air dodge (and to an extent a Buffer of 1 frame) being gone from existence. The worst part is very few people deviate from input mechanics set into the game since Melee (I played Melee for years too, and I still am relatively fine when I go to P:M tourneys [which use the offline version]), so when they do figure out a wifi working hard press, chances are they won't care for such a small minority to code some way to keep light press as an option in the game.

(SpiderMad): I feel I coulda got in the PMBR if I
applied during demo 1
[5:04:40 PM] Kyle Barnick: I would've never played pm if there was the ****
you liked in the offline version
[5:04:45 PM] Kyle Barnick: like zelda 1.0
[5:04:48 PM] Kyle Barnick: light press
[5:04:49 PM] Kyle Barnick: stuff
[5:04:58 PM] Kyle Barnick: Ike 4 god tyre
[5:05:04 PM] Kyle Barnick: :p
(SpiderMad): Yeah, and now some of those things
separate me from the views of the mainstream unenlightened people
[5:05:47 PM] Kyle Barnick: enlighten me, o wise one
(SpiderMad): Buffer of 1 frame is wonderful
(SpiderMad): Light press air dodge is also
wonderful but more important in that it doesn't have a debate concerning
advantage for tournaments
(SpiderMad): that is until there's a code made to
have light press turned on/off per controller slot, in which there will be
light press people showing off the amazing play it unlocks and causes some
people to anger at their controller positioning now being able to fluxuate
around controllers at higher speed and more proper angles due to the hand
position now only having to reach and exert pressure on the analog of the
spring rather than a demanding click of a spring+digital button
(SpiderMad): Buffer 1 gives a lot of things, Having
a buffer of 10 frames or near 10 frames is dumb though
[5:10:57 PM] Alex: On 9/27/13, at 6:10 PM
I have no idea what this is supposed to mean so I don't think it's a good
idea.
(SpiderMad): Brawl woulda been going in the right
direction possibly giving or 1 or 2 frames buffer
(SpiderMad): Say I'm at a tournament playing the
Offline version with the hard press air dodge
(SpiderMad): vs. playing the online version with
the light press air dodge
(SpiderMad): Your entire hand position once use to
the light press air dodge NEVER has to go anywhere near the FULL CLICK of the
shoulder button anymore
(SpiderMad): Shielding, Air dodging, Teching, all
are light press
(SpiderMad): (Along with no light shield to
complicate things)
(SpiderMad): Now when you go to the tourney
[5:13:58 PM] Kyle Barnick: gonna suck for you when there is lightshielding
(SpiderMad): You can still play and all that, but
your hand position and overall strength will be different for when you now
have to full click
(SpiderMad): both being slightly but detrimentally worse
(SpiderMad): Light shielding would complicate light
press air dodge, but its benefits would still outweight offline
[5:17:06 PM] Kyle Barnick: remove your triggers from your controller
[5:17:07 PM] Kyle Barnick: there
[5:17:13 PM] Kyle Barnick: now there is only 1 type of press
(SpiderMad): Your hand position and strength are
still affected
[5:17:47 PM] Kyle Barnick: if you aren't strong enough to press a shoulder
button down til it clicks, you shouldnt be talking about competetive video
games
(SpiderMad): The strength it makes the rest of your
actions
[5:18:28 PM] Alex: In the entirety of my smash career, never have I thought
[5:18:37 PM] Alex: "Damn, I wish I didn't have to press thisi button so hard"
(SpiderMad): The overall force it requires for any
action besides shoulder click is relatively minimal, its the outlier
(SpiderMad): and when u have something like that
however small, your overall force exertion is being increased to be prepared
for the outlier and will be higher exertion than you need for the minimal
things
[5:21:02 PM] Alex: You could always just remap it.
[5:21:33 PM] Kyle Barnick: okay take out your springs and there is never an
outlier, instead of analog you have 1 potential outcome
[5:21:36 PM] Kyle Barnick: you press it or you dont
(SpiderMad): They just need a code like they did
for mapping Footstool to other buttons, but for turning light press vs hard
press on shield
(SpiderMad): that still has the positioning
problem, besides still requiring more force than light press
(SpiderMad): besides being less reliable
(SpiderMad): light press is super reliable
(SpiderMad): people aren't use to and don't trust
it until they've gotten use to it
(SpiderMad): And now for buffer discussion (happy)
[5:26:44 PM] Alex: I still don't see why the light press thing is necessary
[5:26:54 PM] Kyle Barnick: It won't be reliable once the triggers are set to
their analog function due to lightshielding being returned
[5:27:06 PM] Kyle Barnick: it will require an arbitrary amount of force
likely
[5:27:10 PM] Kyle Barnick: for the lightshield to register
(SpiderMad): ?
[5:27:15 PM] Kyle Barnick: hard press will always hard press
(SpiderMad): What are you saying though about it
[5:29:04 PM] Kyle Barnick: what are you saying about these things that you
like. All you have said is "I like them so they are better and everyone
should do it"
(SpiderMad): everyone?
(SpiderMad): I'm advocating putting research into a
code that'd give the option for it
(SpiderMad): I'm kinda fine with it now just
existing for the wifi version, could barely be more happy. But if they fixed
wifi to use the offline and didn't develop such option code, I'd be
distraught.
(SpiderMad): the "I like hard press and am use to it is"
going to override MY opinion that they should at least EXIST if and when they
develop the codes to obliterate light press from existence
(SpiderMad): It seems to be the majority that gives
no eye to the light press. "I like the hard press I'm use to from Melee so
they are better and everyone should do it. Consideration of light press still
existing matters none to me once we have the codes to obliterate it, and no
care to develop a code to make it optional and co-exist"
(SpiderMad): Zhime is one person I know who likes
the light press
[5:39:04 PM] Alex: Just download it onto your controller.
(SpiderMad): ?
[5:39:23 PM] Alex: You can do that with tags on wii remotes
(SpiderMad): I don't get what you're saying.
[5:40:00 PM] Alex: I'm being an asshole.
(SpiderMad): The best form of what i can think of
if possible would be using a Tag, of modified controls like people do for
setting Footstool to other buttons.
(SpiderMad): You'd hover over the shoulder button
and see Shield(Hard press) and switch it to Shield(Light press)

Watch again. I do indeed claw with both hands, I just don't keep my index finger over X. When I press X to jump you can see my index finger hit the button, I definitely claw and have since 2003.

Nausicaa it's actually easier to SH with the control stick, it's just much harder to drift and retain movement while jumping unless you hold the stick like I do. To SH with the stick just flick it upwards, it automatically resets to neutral and will just give you 1 frame pressing jump which will do every sh.

It's an inside joke between us. I got hit on by underage women at anime conventions quite a few times, despite my protests, so he's joking about me being a pedophilia magnet. It's all in good fun though, I got a sense of humour.

Edit: I am highly amused that the first like I get for this comment about pedophilia is from a guy whose username is "smooth criminal"

I don't see how you see short hopping consistently to be something anyone can't do. lol ;)

I probably should've clarified that he didn't even know short hopping was in the game and he used up for full hops all the time. But there's no way I'd be able to short hop 100% of the time using up lol. Using x just feels like 1000000x more intuitive.

If you watch the turbo videos a little more closely, i think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the progress.
are you kidding me that **** is a cluster**** of grabs and aerials and up-bs and up-b grabs and specials and special grabs and aerials and **** and I can't tell what's DI and what's knockback anymore
not that they aren't just fine and nice videos and all
but that's just cruel dude don't tease me like that mayne

@PMBR
I've had an awakening of sorts. It has to be plusle and minun
I saw people suggest it before, and didn't realize until now that it's too perfect
Just imagine Pikachu if he were ice climbers
I mean, ice climbers if they were pikachu
same thing
that's what plusle and minun would be
please make this a reality
I can just see the desynced single thunder jolt approaches into grab combos into desynched combos into double thunder, just like that silly **** Wobbles did on Hungrybox at evo with the desynched blizzard on his lightshield into wobbling into a smash
that **** was ****ing hype
And surely it would work to clone ICs, please tell me it's so.
They would be they hypest, most unique addition to P:M (with the exception of just being a double Pichu, or ice climbers/pikachu hybrid)

And when's MewTwo

Okay, so I just downloaded the WiFi version of Project M 2.6b, now I have to ask. Is the WiFi using it's own server for Project M or the same as Brawl's? And does it lag more or less than Brawl would online?

Also, where can I go to exchange friend codes to play other people? I always just play with my friend, and it's always pretty casual. I wanna play some hardcore people because that's how I used to play Melee at local tournaments. :)
