Good news everybody, Toon Link is back in Smash 4 and it looks like Project M managed to "declone" him more. :alakadoof:
I wonder how long they're going to announce characters that were already pretty much expected by players. Who's next Sakurai? Marth? Diddy? Ganondorf? Zelda?

Maybe they could show some more gameplay footage instead of still shots that give us no idea what kind of physics we're working with.

It's funny, I'm far more excited about veteran characters being added to Project M than I am seeing the same craptastic Brawl vets announced in Smash 4.

@Strong Bad, Jabu Jabu's belly is the single most boring dungeon in the game. I'm not surprised you stopped there. The rest is good though IMO.

@Others: Also, I'm not sure people misunderstand what I mean by small. I'm pretty close to the TV. Anyways, the conclusion of what I was saying was "I now hate motion controls so much that I will skip on any game that requires it. It takes away all of my fun, and the only times I actually had legit, annoyance-less fun with my Wii was when I was playing Project M, Punchout!! and Xenoblade Chronicles. If it were not from Project M, I would have sold my Wii years ago.

Edit: Sakurai seemed to imply Smash 4 would have less characters than Brawl, so the surprises rather should be who he'll sacrifice to add new characters. My money's on Ike and Lucario at least.

And yet I still prefer Sakurai's Tink thanks to a Spin Attack that doesn't blow at recovery. :alakadoof:

But we know how that song and dance goes.

Nintendo is completely dropping the ball with Smash news. Remember how hype it was with all the new characters people wanted and a few surprises announced with the Brawl trailer launch and the daily dojo updates?

Every day was just waiting for a new character and that was exciting.

So far this time around we got two characterless avatars (sorry AC fans) and one guest character that had people hyped. We haven't gotten an exciting thing to make up for all these crappy new titling platform and walk off stages in forever.

Nintendo has some sort of sincere hatred/dislike for Smash, but an intense desire for money. Even if the game is terrible, people will buy it. Like many of us bought Brawl, despite being disappointed with it after a while. Their dislike for Smash is probably why they keep giving us characters that should already be givens and acting like it's truly new information. If they wanted to mesmerize us, they would show us new stages as reveals, or new modes, new items, new something that we didn't have already.

Um, toon links recovery doesn't blow. Bomb jumping, tether grabbing, wall jumping, and his up b make his recovery pretty good.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, heard that **** a thousand times before, not buying it, and I certainly don't have to like it. His spin attack blows at recovery, that was all I said, and you can't deny it is true. Especially when I'm seeing other characters have much easier times getting on stage with not even half the effort.

Not all recoveries are created equally, true. Kinda funny that TL gets so many complaints for a decent recovery that he has to be creative with, when a common complaint is that recoveries are too easy in P:M.

I'd rather have a cast full of TL recoveries than 2.5 Sonic recoveries any day.

That said, Smash4 TL still having his stupid copy/paste Fsmash of Link's when they've had three games to diversify their movesets? That's just sad. I really hope it changes.

I'm of the opinion that Young Link was less of a clone of Link than Brawl Toon Link was. Despite the changed animations, they played more similarly.

People complain about the clones in Melee, but at least they had completely different play-styles. Their differences are in the gameplay, not merely aesthetic at face value.

I really wish they gave him Spirit Tracks and Phantom HG items instead of the same old link ****.

Fill me in on what coop you speak of, I remember the multiplayer but was unaware of any form of coop. (Coming from a hardcore bk/bt fan)
It's an unfinished gamemode that you can still access through a Gameshark/similar device called Bottles Revenge.
Player 2 plays as the ghost of Bottles and can take control of enemies.

Toon Link is looking like the most uninspired character so far. That is, in terms of design. He looks really strange with the new art style as well.

I am willing to bet that TL's spin attack in PM will be better for recovery purposes than his spin attack in Smash 4, since that's already the case with Brawl.

So I've started Wind Waker again.

Why is the Forsaken Fortress made to be so frustrating for something at the start of the game? Moblins got the eyes of freaking hawks.

As a child that place gave me so much trouble. When I played through that part for the first time is years a month or so back I found it easy. Trick is to never go down below to the moblins. Stay on the path above and you will finish it in no time.

I beat Skyward Sword with my non-dominant hand, I await the Hero mode challenge. I'm nto buying the game right now because I have other games to finish, but I will in due time.

Okay, got rid of the spotlights, avoided he moblins by going the easy way counter-clockwise, and got the sword back. Jeez, after like 10 attempts. And I fell down to the lower level accidentally like twice.

I bought sooooooo many green pots on my hero mode run. If you can get the materials to do so and can handle your own in fights without being able to find hearts anywhere, I highly suggest it.

The positive side of the struggle of the forsaken fortress early on is that when you go back with the master sword is so satisfying to show those moblins who is boss. "Oh you wanna throw me in jail now? Meet evils bane, sucka!"

I think the Wii U has one more good price drop in it before I commit to this thing.

$250 for a measly 32 GB of storage data sounds fair to me. The "revolutionary" tablet controller is not worth the leftover difference to me.

Does P:M/Melee lack any specific but easy to fulfill tutorial video(s) of anything that would be helpful to someone? And if so, what format/style of teaching and such would it be best in (ex. Do people want actual narration, or slides of text before or while gameplay footage demonstrates something?).

You reminded me that I was working on some tutorial series a while ago for newcomers. Then I lost like all the footage I was collecting. Then I was like "Ah screw it someone else is working on one too." Don't think he ever finished either.

Maybe I'll start doing that again.

You can do text while a clip plays, but add the text near the bottom of the clip and surround it in a black border, like this.
I can't tell you how annoying it is when tutorial videos fill clips with text while trying to show an example. It'd take some extra work for my suggested method, but I feel it'd look nice.

You know, this thread reminds me that I've never beaten Okami.
After I beat Crimson Helm I had to put the game down because things were getting too busy for me, and I never went back to it.
I need to add that to my to do list.

Similar to the Advance How to Play videos, I'd say. If you're really up for the challenge, try to explain the use and importance of movement (citing examples of such) in playing offensively or defensively and I would absolutely love a video explaining stage-character relationships (why you play certain characters on certain types of stages or counterpick stages against others).

Hey guys.

Think about this.

Smash isn't a fighter. It's more than one.

Sakurai was right when he said that the definition of a fighter is too cookie cutter, and if you try to apply it to smash, you're cutting out a whole lot about the game that makes it Smash.

It has what fighting games have, but moooooore, but as a result it's not a fighter. It's more than one.

Cookie cutter genre definitions tend to create more problems than they solve, in video games or otherwise.

Lol Smash talk in the Zelda forum.
Link to the Past is the best 2D Zelda game. 9-bit, you're in for a long, rewarding treat.

but by that definition it's also not a party game or a platform brawler, because it's more than either of those two
More or less yeah lol, while it is silly to expect one definition to perfectly describe something, you have to admit that amoung "fighters", "platformers", and "party games", smash has found itself a pretty marvelously unique niche by being all yet none of the aforementioned types of games.

Yeah that's true lol.

I've never called Smash a party game. Platform brawler is probably the closest though.

It truely is its own thing.

Sakurai cant even figure out what smash really is.
