I just realized a month later after that incident with my phone dropping in the toilet, I had a recording of Lunchables beating Mew2King in friendlies at an IaB weekly back in August, everyone in the crowd got so hype and screamed so loudly that M2K turned around after the match and said, "Could you guys not scream, it hurts my ears."

And now it's gone forever.

And speaking of recordings I'm backing up to Youtube hours of unorganized TV footage that were from my friend's nice camera on his HDTV of my early competitive Melee playing/training against his more experienced Falco. I can't tell the dates from all the weird file stuff I did, apparently they span close to a year or something somewhere in 2011 to 2012?

Ah, that battle. I actually played the original Final Mix a ton and completely 100% it on Critical (And I do mean completely. This includes all of the "Missions" in the journal. Bleh.), so I've actually had a good idea of what I've been doing in my runt through. Today I sped things up since I've only play it a few days and had all day to spend time on it, so now I've cleared every world's second visit, most of the side worlds and am gonna wrap up Hundred Acre Wood tomorrow. Then beat up on Sephy so I can have Fenrir.

Anywho, what exactly is giving you a hard time with it? Do you have Second Chance and Once More equipped? What level are you and what Keyblade are you using?

but now after watching this old footage I can rest at ease knowing it was pretty certain. As you can see, the exact bad timing of it is being done exactly the same in both videos lol. This game is so amazing. Your early play tactics and tricks you did may still be with you all this time. There's a few things I can remember about what I use to do, and remember trying to cut them out of my gameplay as I became better: which I did with most of them until the point I could have cut them out too much (like using too much Uair https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmboEi0Ku4Q#t=319 ; it may be because I was learning off him do it quite often. I probly still embody a thing or two from his play). It's actually hard for me to see things I still do the same, I combo entirely differently in these videos and everything partly from my lesser tech skill (and possibly from the HDTV). I feel like I'm in a phase right now where I need to learn how to get back some of my more cerebral and possibly slower/random paced combo choices; lose some of my functional fixedness.

I wouldn't play any JRPG for its story, even if it was decent the game mechanics are the biggest obstacle by far to enjoying it.

Pretty much this. I picked up RPGs to fight random encounters, level up, fight powerful bosses several times my size with hard earned-abilities and expensive equipment because it was fun, dammit. The story was just to give a purpose to it all.

As time went on and lots of great games came out, people have come to expect a lot from JRPGs in terms of story. The technology is improved, graphics are gorgeous, and cutscenes have evolved to high-budget cinematic presentations. From a technical perspective, virtually anything is possible. But at the end of the day, they're still games. They are not novels or films, no matter how many elements they borrow from them. The incredibly sophisticated hardware and presentation raises expectations to a height that can probably never be reached.
