Koopaling's aren't Bowser's kids. Only Bowser Jr. is.
i spent the first 19 years of my life believing the koopalings were bowsers children, and to see nintendo pull that bull**** destroyed how great Super Mario World/SMW3 was to me

I guess they didn't want people thinking Bowser was any more of a stallion than he is already.

wtf

so now, it's actually a bad thing for Nintendo to sponsor major Smash tournaments

goddamnit

seriously, Smash 64 and Brawl but no PM at Apex?

EDIT: It'd be fine if it was a new tournament, but it's Apex, so now PM has been taken away from a significant national tournament that it's traditionally participated in.

The one with the conversation I was alluding to a few posts above mine.

You're wrong Aero, that is just a pointless retcon to make Koopa Jr. seem more important than he really is.

They are his kids in their Mario Bros. 3 appearance, Sakurai is alluding to that here.

This feels reminiscent of when Nintendo banned Melee at EVO 2013. Except we didn't raise a bunch of money for charity.

EDIT: Nintendo is sponsering Apex because of Sm4sh, right? I'm not just making this up? I can't think of any other logical reason why PM wouldn't be at Apex

It's not exactly nintendo's fault
I don't know if the sponsorship is real yet or not, but it's not hard to see why Strife would seek it

I would understand if Pm wasn't listed as one of the main tournaments, but it isn't even mentioned on there at all. If pm were to ever die, I think it would be because of things like this. Pretty much just getting forced out of nationals in favor of Nintendo sponsorship. (And I honestly doubt Pm would make Nintendo not sponsor them)

Although it's upsetting, eh, I saw it coming.

People are making it out to be the death of PM.

Though .. Smash 64 and Brawl ... how many entrants could there truly be? I'm surprised Brawl is still going to be played in the wake of Smash 4 :/ but hey just me.

Money walks and money talks. Well folks time to go underground and go MVC2 style with money matches and folks are gonna relinquish their loads of lunch money to each other.

This isn't the death of the PM scene but its the death of our largest tournament ever. This is nothing less than a giant middle finger from the Apex crew to the PM community.

If anyone from the Apex staff, or who supports Apex wants to tell me that this isn't an insult, then please, I'd love to hear the reasoning.

Because Nintendo.

I can totally see Nintendo sponsoring and saying

NINTENDO: We want everyone Smash Bros at Apex.
APEX: Wait ... a-all of them?
NINTENDO: *throws money at them*
APEX: Even Bra-
NINTENDO: "throws more money at them*
APEX: WE GOT ALL OF THEM!

Ouch, time to make our own mega tourney community featuring a N64, PM, Melee, and Smash 4 on the grounds of being pretty 'k. Seriously though, why would you seek sponsorship from them when your own tournament is more or less saturated with hardcore Melee/PM players when Nintendo would probably want Smash 4 to have a main showing? Jesus, the stream monsters would have an anti Smash 4 field day in the face of Ninty's intended viewer audience. I don't really see the point of any of this...

At best PM can be a side event. If you think this is a salt storm now just wait till the Evo game lineup announcement in the next 3-4 months.

I honestly can't blame them for it. Am I upset that the best smash game won't be represented as a full event at the biggest smash tournament of the year? Yeah.

But if Nintendo does this right, we could have official support unlike anything seen in smash before. That means more hype for competitive smash, more people getting into competitive smash, and by extension a growth in PM.

But actually though, 64 and Brawl combined are going to make up an eighth of what PM would have been.

Inb4 Nintendo forces them to use Invitational rules in the SSBU tourney kappa

It's the last big event of Brawl. Let them rock; it's all us from now on.
Give them that much at least.

I disagree with the people who said Brawl shouldn't be included. It should. As with 64. As with Melee. As with PM. As with Smash 4. Lets not pretend that Apex has been anything but the collective Smash community coming together and playing their own game to their fullest.

Leaving any of the smash games out is against everything that the leaders of this community have been saying for the last two years. One Unit means nothing if you're excluding a part of the community.

This just proves Apex staff care more about money then the players. I understand money talks, but Christ...

Look at this Sethlon tweet.

Seeing as a lot of old school brawl players are coming back for Smash 4, I wouldn't be surprised if brawl got more-than-decent attendance this year

And nintendo sponsorship isn't only about money. Even if they're interested in the community for 1-2 years only, the growth it could bring could very well be huge

Removing PM from Apex = a growth in PM?

Um, no

If Apex ****s in my ice cream, I'm not going to say "well it might not taste good now, but I'm sure that someday in the future my ice cream might taste like chocolate". I'm really good at analogies, guys

I mean, it just feels like a huge middle finger to the community surely.
And it's sad that Ninty will probably drop this sponsorship in a year and then Apex will take PM back and we'll act so happy about it even though they pulled this **** move in the first place.

It is definitely about money, but it's about more than money.

So far the only thing the competitive smash scene (as a whole) has ever received from Nintendo was

1) games to play
2) a letter saying we can't stream the game, followed by a 'whoa there sorry' letter saying we can
3) no interference this year at EVO
4) giving some bullcrap ranking system in a restricted online mode with almost no possible modifications

This could potentially be huge for competitive smash. It sucks for PM, but honestly will this stop people from playing PM? No. Will it mean PM loses some exposure? Absolutely.

But we have to weigh the exposure PM gets from

A) A Nintendo interest in the competitive smash community inducing a growth in the entire scene
compared to
B) The exposure PM would get if it were at APEX and Nintendo wasn't

If they play their cards right, Nintendo's sponsoring of APEX could open the doors to thousands of casual players who currently think playing For Glory is competitive smash when they see Melee and maybe PM as a side event. The ones who are truly interested will no doubt try PM, imo a much more introductory game to competitive smash.

I'm not saying we're better off this way. PM deserves a spot in APEX.

We need to see how deep Nintendo is willing to go.

This is less about **** in ice cream and more like 'you want a cookie now or two tomorrow?'

POSSIBLY

Nintendo could very well **** off right after, pull support, go back to abusing the competitive scene to push their new shiny product. Given their hilariously terrible track record I wouldn't put it past them, and if that's the case then I'm ****ing ready to
ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ RIOT ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ
right along with everyone.

APEX staff, this would be a ****ing fantastic time to release an official statement.

do you guys think the sm4sh dev team actually talked about trying to 1up PM and make a game that would make it less valid? Or do they not really care?
