Just making sure you beat the basics into yourself is the most important. With good fundamentals the advanced stuff becomes even more easy.
As far as the cpu thing (now that I have a TV that works properly, lol.) outside of level 1, I say level 6 as well. They play a basic rush-down type of person, and they also powershield a LOT. It's just good to practice what you've been applying to a cpu that does more than just walk toward you.
Other than that...I can only say what's been suggested. Eventually you'll do it so often that it'll become second nature. Come up with your own fun ways to practice, though. The key word is "FUN". I also started using the Handicap method with Ganon. It's like playing the "Don't get hit" game, but you need to get damage in quickly, too. Challenge yourself in fun ways. ^_^
