I'm not going to lie, if the announcement coming up IS the announcement of the PS4, I'm going to be legitimately pissed off. Like, I'm not "looking forward to another system" when Sony's made it clear the PS3 is their main focus until at LEAST 2015. Announce the PS4 at E3 2015, NOT NOW. And especially don't WITHOUT BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY.
First, no one is making you buy it. It's probably better that you wait anyway, for the reasons that ebored listed. Second, nothing is backwards compatible anymore.

Also, you'll probably still get PS3 games until 2015. Look at the PS2.

It's coming out THIS YEAR? You have GOT to be F---ING KIDDING ME. Ugh. I legitimately feel sick and livid now. Not only is the model idea awful, the controller ugly, the lack of backwards compatibility terrible, and the whole concept of all games being digital download only with no disc tray downright disgusting, but they shouldn't be announcing this S--- until earliest 2015, let alone releasing it prior. Hell, part of what had the PS3 outsell the 360 is that it got to see what the 360 did wrong, come out a year later, and capitalize on it by doing things better. Now Microsoft will have that advantage. Plus, I have a monthly bandwidth limit, in no way shape or form can I afford to download a 25 Gig game. I legitimately hate EVERYTHING about it, especially the fact that it's coming out far too early.

Edit:

I know, I know...sorry that I kinda freaked out there, Lythi. I didn't mean to like...just explode like that.

No ps3 backwards playability at all is going to be a major turn off, even if this Gaikai thing is supposed to help fix that. Sounds like Sony's equivalent to On-Live. Bet you my free $10 that Sony handed out, that there is going to be a sub cost for using it, and $10 is a way to say it's the first month...year.. or whatever free of charge.

E: All I hope for is a $300 price point, cause from what was shown. That's all some would really even spend on it, not to mention holiday release, and avoiding a ps3 release fiasco. Would make logical sense. not to mention make Microsoft get a lil worried XD

Yeah, it's possible there'll be a charge cost too. That being said, with my free $10 I now have like $16.50 in my PSN wallet so I'm all "hmmm...." on what to spend it on. Shall I spend it on Hard Corps: Uprising? Or Skullgirls? Or Persona 3 FES and some other smaller DLC or that and a $5 game? Decisions decisions. :bee:

Sticking with Wii U for Smash 4, Zelda, and a couple of other games and next gen Xbox for Halo and Gears.

Those Killzone 4 graphics looked phenomenal, but I am a bit skeptical about the release date being so early though.

I have no problem with the PS4 being unable to play PS1 or PS2 games. Being able to emulate/backwards compatibility costs tons of money. Remember how much Sony saved/cut prices when they decided to stop selling those PS3s that had backwards compatibility?

With that being said, it's an insult to not have backwards compatibility for the PS3. Three problems come up...

1. All your previously owned games are useless now unless you keep your old PS3 hooked up.

2. Barring some system where your owned PS3 games can translate to free streamed games, you will have to repay.

3. If you are in an area with spotty or slow internet service, then you are in for a real world of hurt.

Also, I feel like this service may also lead to a monthly fee different from PSN.

Outside of that, I'm fine with what the console has the offer. Now it's MS' turn.

Edit: I'm also someone who doesn't really pick up games once I've beaten them. So having no backwards compatibility for my PS4 won't really bother me. However, I do see it as a real problem given a lot of gamers like to play their old games.

Also, did anyone find out if used games will be blocked?

First of all, if you're complaining about how Gaikai will be handling the BC, then keep your PS3. I don't know why people throw away their consoles the moment a new one hits. Second, they never said all games are digital. PS4 even has a DVD/BD drive so you're making stuff up. And last, then don't buy a PS4 right away. Everyone's not going to stop making PS3 games right away.

Also, I'm pretty sure the PS3 never outsold the 360 as much as your implying... And we're pretty much due for a new console anyway. It's been what, 7-8 years since the first console of this gen was out?

I do feel that the jump from this gen to the next is a bit meh in terms of new **** though, but things are going to be stale if this gen keeps up any longer. Need new stuff to keep things fresh and bought.

And... I like the controller D:, except the placement if the start/select buttons. It'll most likely be changed anyway. Looks very very prototype-y.

As for the used games fiasco, it's still up in the air. We'll have to wait until the next event.

Which... Is E3?

Well, I'm not making up that I heard the games were digital, so I wasn't trying to come across as making things up. It's good to hear there's a DVD/Bluray player drive on it, but that does kind of suggest there should be backwards compatibility, even though I keep my old systems anyway.

Look guys, I said I was sorry that I flipped out, got pissed off, and overreacted to it. I can't change what I said and make it so I never said it, but even though I just snapped for a moment there, I'm sorry that I lost control of myself for a bit. It wasn't my intention to make as big of a deal over it as I did.

That's good to know, but I'm sure there are companies that will still screw you with online passes and stuff. Same as usual~

And I totally agree with you on backwards compatibility, but I'm more worried about region locks, haha.

It's cool, but it was kind of crazy, dude. If you really feel that strongly about it, maybe you shouldn't buy a PS4? The easiest way to show a company that you're unhappy with or not interested in their product is by not buying it. Being loyal to a brand only benefits the company. But to be fair, most companies are probably going to really start pushing for digital downloads. Look at what happened with the new Fire Emblem.

Thanks, Lythi. Admittedly, I think I just had gotten so comfortable in the current era that I felt upset over the notion of ending it and moving onto the next-gen before Microsoft did. Having slept on it, I feel I'll wait on some more specs and info to be announced before I actually make a full on decision about it. Right now, I feel not that "I'll never buy a PS4" as I haven't heard anything about the 720 and don't know what that would entail, but moreso that "I'm not planning on buying it within the first year of it being out". In fact, thinking on it, I do believe I waited a little over a year after the PS3 was out to pick one up.

I waited until Christmas 2010 to get my PS3, so no worries there.

I plan to wait a long time for all consoles this gen, you know. Wii U might be the exception.
Same here. I'll wait for another few years to get the PS4 so I can get some newer PS3 games like Project Versus J.

PS4 looks pretty damn sweet. I'll wait for a price drop/the inevitable slim version more than likely. My PS3 backlog and Wii U can keep me busy 'til then.
Have they announced internal storage/HDD sizes yet? If not they should definitely make them less finicky to swap over and replace, or give you the option of an external. It'd need to have a large HDD included if it's pushing digital download and cloud gaming so much, surely?

I recently took a look and all I saw was the new controller and the eye toy, but no console.

Reading a few pages on the web, I tend to think why sony's really doing this, despite its anticipation received by fans.

Simply because they don't have an official model ready yet. Why put something out that hasn't been made? However, that leaves pause for concern in regards to just how many will be available on launch date.

Uncharted 3 MP is now free to DL. Of course some restrictions such as level cap (15/30) and some modes you can't access. However, if you're looking for your typical team death match and other modes, feel free to sign up. I played the MP for a long time, and it's rather enjoyable. Might start it up again if some of you guys are interested.

There was a lot of fuss about the PS3 not being able to play PSX and PS2 games as they increased the GB and then started to introduce the slim models. Unless you were lucky enough to get the 60GB model that was introduced on release before being discontinued. I can't remember but there was another PS3 model that was able to play some PS2 games but couldn't play any PSX games. I think it was the 80GB model?

All PS3s can play PS1 games, even the ones now. 20 and 60 had full BC, 40 had none. Early 80 GB had emulated BC and the later ones had it removed.

Edit: BC for PS2 games, mainly

While it is convenient to have one console play all the games, it is also more expensive. The cheaper option sadly is to buy a PS2 alongside owning a PS4.

Interesting. Still a bummer they won't touch PS2 games. Many in which I still play.
Yeah, same, but I don't mind hooking up my PS2 again when I want to. I even bring out my SNES every now and then. It definitely sucks for people who have limited space though. Currently I have my PS3 hooked up while my 360, Wii, and PS2 are right next to it. SNES and Dreamcast are just in a closet until I'm ready to play them again.

Oh I can agree totally with the limited space thing. I mean hell, I have my PS2 hooked up to a TV directly next to my PS3, so that's not a worry for me, but I've got my SNES/Dreamcast/N64/PS1 all crammed in my room somewhere on a small TV and even that's getting cramped. Can't imagine how people with less space would do.

Just finished Metal Gear Rising...

Pros:
-Mindless fun. Don't really need to learn combos if you're playing on normal. True hack and slash.
-Story is appealing
-Boss fights are cool
-Music is awesome

Cons:
-Game is super short. You can finish this in about 7 hours
-Camera controls fail
-Stealth parts are not that good

Neutral:
-If you're into those long codec convos MGS is known for, you can have fun with those in this game. Most of them are optional anyways.

Overall, if you're a MG fan, and don't mind an action oriented game, give this one a rent. The story isn't as deep or thoughtful as the MGS series, but for an action game, I would say it has an appeal.

Now onto DmC.

And I just finished DmC...

Pros:
-Better attempt at story telling than 3/4th of DMC games.
-Aesthetics are nice.
-Easy and fun to use combat.
-For the most part, good VAs.

Cons:
-I said attempt. Story is super cliche.
-Some really bad dialogue moments.
-Graphics are average, maybe subpar given the PS3's current life cycle.
-No depth in combat. Definitely a downgrade from DMC3 and 4. Too simple.
-Last two boss fights are a bit underwhelming.
-Boss fights in general not as epic or meaningful.
-Dante's hair.
-Attempts at social commentary are plain, in your face, and treats the viewer as stupid. Good social commentary? See Metal Gear or NMH.
-Devil Trigger is not that fun to use.

Neutral:
-Battle music is mostly same genre with a few dubstep elements.
-Pretty easy to get SSS ranks on normal mode.

Overall, the gameplay is not as good as the last two DMCs, the graphics are average, the story telling is "okay", and some of the characterization is not good as well. With that being said, it can still be fun to play, and the level designs are nice. I have no problem with the VAs, but do have issues at times with the dialogue. I'd give this one a rent.

My Gamefly has notified me they have shipped out Resident Evil 6. Sucks, cause I had Tomb Raider as my first priority. Also hoping to play MGS: Peace Walker.

If any of you guys are looking for a really cool game, check out Bit.Trip Runner 2. It's only $15 (though it's on sale if you have Plus), and it's pretty awesome. A lot bigger than the previous Runner, with more unlockables and stuff to collect.

Beat RE6 and AC3. To be honest, I liked RE6 more than 5. Though I thought the graphics were a bit worse (probably due to able to play online coop). I liked how they interconnected all the stories, and how it can work in MP. It definitely came off as unique and awesome to me. Story was good enough. Better than DmC for sure. Just don't expect a horror game going into it.

AC3...I thought was a downgrade from the previous entries. Despite being in production for multiple years, the characters are underdeveloped, especially the main one despite there being so much potential. Desmond's story comes to a lame end, the game play is buggy, and while a lot of people liked the Naval battles, I thought the controls were terrible. Not looking forward to the next one, since it will be about pirates unless they improve on the controls.

That's unfortunate to hear. I was thinking of trying an AC game, and I figured since that was the newest one and (as far as I can tell) they're not linked together in true sequel style, but if it's a bad game maybe I'll try 2 instead. Or wait the 7 months to be able to pre-order 4, lol.

What I hate most about the AC series is that it's two separate stories going on at once. They usually link the Assassin's story to Desmond at the end of the game. It would be cooler if they did that consistently throughout the game, which in turn you can play as Desmond and have that info/actions be done due to what you saw in the Animus.

Also, AC3 had A LOT of slow parts in the beginning. Lord knows how many times I went "are we there yet?" or "This is so boring".

Gonna be playing MGS: Peace Walker next. Hopefully that will be a much better experience.

So Phantom Pain and MGS: Ground Zeroes = MGS 5. Anyone see the 5 minute trailer? It looks amazing. It's really hard to imagine the Fox Engine being THAT good for a current gen. I'm sure it's going to be toned down significantly once its ported from those high end PCs they are using to demonstrate it.

Also, news is circulating that David Hayter will not be voicing Snake (Big Boss) in this one.
