No it wouldn't necessarily have to be a transformation, it could very well be a summon, like I already said.
And Zelda/ Toon Zelda isn't really a necessary character because nothing really differentiates Toon Zelda from "Adult" Zelda other then
art style. Whilst Toon Link has a different arsenal then "Adult" Link.

But if it's a summon, it would be a special attack, then, no? I really can't conceive it as a normal move.

And also, if Toon Link have a different arsenal than Link, the same can be applied to Zelda and her abilities, isn't it? Let's say, Smash wise, "realistic Zelda" = transform, and Toon Zelda = summon, for example.

Also, Toon Link, as far as we know, still uses the same arsenal as Link.

Very well could be.

I don't think the phantom is enough to warrant a whole new character though.
Plus both the adult and toon Zeldas have practically the same abilities, they all use the bow and arrows so there really isn't anything new.

That's just it while Link and Toon Link DO share the same movesets, all of Toon Link's tools are based on his respective game, while Link has the designs found in the TP timeline. As said before in the thread, Sakurai has pretty much made it clear that the WW timeline and TP timeline are kept separate. Zelda does indeed draw from other games, but all of said stuff comes from along that timeline. If we were to get a Toon Zelda, all of her stuff would come from the WW-side of things all the way from WW to ST. That said....

As far as the Phantom goes, it's really dependnt on what style it/she is reflecting. Which is what I assume sparked the whole style debate I saw a few pages back. Something I didn't see mentioned, that foot you pointed out as more human rather than bootlike, you DID notice that the shield cuts off our view of it, right? Makes it look like a normal foot in doing so. It could still very well have the stubby feet from before as we can't see tell what the right foot looks like because we're looking at it from the top.

Anyhow, let's see... what else was said? Oh yes. Anjean summoning a Phantom, a very good point, showing that it CAN be learned somehow. See my starting point, this would be something for the Toon Zelda to borrow and use, NOT the adult one, and it WOULD explain why we see a Phantom with the 'possessed' color scheme but no glowing eyes.

All this and assuming we're not all being made fools of and that Phantom is being an Assist Trophy.

(Sorry to butt in on this by the way. That said, it's rather puzzling WHY we see a photo of this in Zelda's picture set with no explanation for it.)

Nothing here is really "butting", at least not now that everything is still at the speculation phase.

I still think the idea that Sakurai care about timeline is purely speculation.
All this and assuming we're not all being made fools of and that Phantom is being an Assist Trophy.
The picture is relatively clear, and I think most people will agree with me on this: the Phantom is either part of Zelda or an assist trophy. Anything else would be illogical.
If your first and third point is right it would pretty much means the Phantom is an assist, so i'm a little confused what your point is.

It IS weaker than I expected it to be. The point was proving it's not part of Adult Zelda's moveset due to it being a Toon thing and mixing it seems very odd. So I apologize for the poor handling of the explanation.

I like Sheik, she's the last connection to OoT :'(
but I guess I could be open to change. The phantom looks pretty cool too.

Yes, yes, we all know your passion for Impa. Carry on.

I'm of the mind that it's an Assist Trophy or part of Celda's moveset, but all we can do is wait till Sakurai confirms what exactly that pesky Knight is.
[color=#cf0080[I don't think it's about Impa. Is about Sheik.

Also the Gerudo Valley. So we got ample OOT representation already. Now give us Impa.

Hey, Impa is in OoT too.

Maybe that's the version we'll get :troll:

Could happen, or at least she could be inspired by that game. Her appearance in Hyrule Warriors seems like a mix between her SS and OOT designs.

I don't see Impa happening because she isn't Zelda, while Sheik is.
Though they would probably fight the same way so it doesn't even matter that much.

I can easily see Impa happening, in fact, she seems to me as the most likely Zelda newcomer.

On the basis of what, other than her appeal to you personally?

I agree she has a cool design in Skyward Sword and she could be a good inclusion... But it's one game. And in most of her appearances she's old or matronly (see: A Link Between Worlds for the most recent example, albeit as a sage).

Is she needed for representation? Zelda could get a newcomer, yes, but it doesn't really NEED one, imo.

Does she add something that's not in the game? Sheik kinda does a lot of what she would do anyway.

Does she have huge fan demand from Smash fans? No. Not at all.

Does she have huge Zelda fan popularity? Ummmm... not really. She clearly gained some with Skyward Sword, but you'd probably find a lot more die-hard Tingle fans than Impa fans (especially in Japan).

She's clearly in that middle zone... She's important enough, has some good appearances, steadily increasing importance, but she's not the most important unrepresented character. She's a plausible choice, but the fan reaction would be... muted.

Meanwhile, if they did make a Legend of Zelda where Zelda is the protagonist saving the world, Impa would definitely make a great sidekick/mentor/etc. and could be a great role for her. After something like that, I'd find her much more likely. But I don't think it's her time.

The Phantom Knight is a troll move by Sakurai. It's not a Zelda move. If it were he would have gone into detail about it by now. It's not an assist trophy. It would have been its own day reveal. I'm gonna go out on a limb that it is a move for Toon Zelda.

Because their movesets weren't the exact same, right?

@ praline praline please try not to double post. Just edit your previous post if you have more to add.

That Phantom is truly a mystery, but I highly doubt it's a part of Zelda's moveset though.

I don't think the Phantom hints towards Toon Zelda at all. Why can't Zelda herself use the Phantom to represent the Toon Zelda games? Everyone was always so set that Smash Zelda a and Link where composite characters. Then why can't Zelda have the Phantom? It's probably one of the things which is gonna get revealed in a Direct about Smash.

Nah. This is stupid. She only summons the Phantom as a Phantom, and I know in Smash canon will be darned, but it seems too... weird. It's not a complete overhaul, but it's too different form what Zelda was. It's like if Mario gained a moveset completely based off of Super Mario RPG or the Mario and Luigi games. Keep it original.

It´d be a great way to simply buff Zelda, as she could use all the distractions possible to land her moves properly.

Still hoping the Phantom is actually playable Toon/Phantom Zelda and Sakurai is just trolling us. Although I will be satisfied if the Phantom is part of Twilight Zelda's moveset. I would happily trade Sheik for the Phantom as her down B.

Sakurai has never forshadowed a character like that. I think it´s her Down B still.

As of yesterday, Sakurai has never revealed a veteran character on the same day of the western release of a game either, but today he did reveal Diddy coinciding with Tropical Freeze's western released date. My point? There is a first time for everything. But yeah, I agree that the Phantom being part of her moveset is the most likely scenario sadly.

Well, if you look at the pictures on various character pages you can see that the pictures shown range from displaying moves to just plain silliness. Considering that the rest of Zelda's pics are more comical in nature this could easily be a reference using an AT rather than showing a new attack.
Plenty of character pages show attacks and silliness, it just seems that a charater's page is geared toward one rather than the other.

You know, that stupid Phantom is the one thing that's driving me nuts more than any other oddity that Sakurai has let slip, moreso than Palutena, the trauma from Samus' past, or the missing Pikmin types in Olimar's corner. I wish he would just settle this once and for all. He's doing this on purpose! First with Gateway Galaxy and Villager's Gyroid Missile, and now Tortimer's island. Palutena's Colosseum has also suffered this. ARgh!

Looks like Zelda's Side+B is still Din's Fire!!!

I really want the Phantom to be her new Down+B move.

Impa for Smash!

Lol this thread still gets activity? I'll just leave this here...

We now have confirmation that Din's Fire is back, which means the only special move left to be confirmed is her Transformation.

Din's Fire (Side B):

Farore's Wind (Up B):

Naryu's Love (Neutral B):

Transformation (Down B):

Although the pose was recognized we still hadn't actually seen the actual move yet until now.

What was originally thought to be Naryu's Love is actually a taunt.

This is what we though Naryu's Love was: http://www.smashbros.com/images/character/zelda/screen-5.jpg
Her pose does resemble that of the beginning of that Naryu's Love animation, but it could be something else.
The blue effects we thought were part of Naryu's Love are actually from a beacon in the background of the Skyloft stage.
Regardless, I don't see how it could be a taunt.

I don't think either of those are Nayru's Love.
But that doesn't affect how Phantom Zelda is extremely obviously an assist trophy.
They won't break of the 3 goddess moves, and how could that giant thing appear because of a neutral special?
Sheik is basically confirmed playable.
Phantom Zelda is basically confirmed an assist.
And if Impa is added, she would probably have magic-based moves, and would only have the same agility and speed as Sheik.
Phantom Zelda replacing Sheik, Sheik being referenced through Zelda, and Impa cloning Sheik.
I see a 0% chance of all 3 of those unlikely things happening.
Discuss her new Down B:

This gives Zelda amazing walling abilities! It makes sence to for the Knight being there, Zelda being a royal princess and all.

So far, all characters show off their special moves in their Dojo page. Zelda hasn't shown any action aside from this!

Expect major changes in Zelda's moveset cause of this!! I told you all it was weird her reveal was so late. And I guess I was right all along. Zelda's getting revamped, and the Phantom Knight is part of her moveset!

Zelda too pretty to be dressing like a man anyway ^^
I suggest you change the OP, as it is most likely incorrect and very biased. You're most likely announcing false assumptions as fact. And that's not very helpful.

At this point a clear answer on this Phantom will be more exciting to me than a veteran reveal. I'm dying to know for sure.
