GGs everyone.

Don't know why I was better in my first few matches than towards the end, even though I haven't played in a while.
Maybe I am just too tired. :/

Minato, that perfect I got against your Elizabeth by out zoning her with Yosuke, that's not supposed to happen right?
It sounds like the exact opposite of something that would work, yet it kind of felt like that might actually the right way to approach this matchup. :054:

Damn, no Psyduck.
Well at least Mad Grimer is back.

GGs, everyone.

@Crusayer Your internet lasted surprisingly long this time. Not sure what the issue it though but hopefully this doesn't happen for BBCP.

@Livewire Seems like you need to learn your punishes and hit confirms more. You should be making smarter button choices. After air teching and landing, do not mash 5C. When Rutger messed up Garudyne and you blocked it, stay calm and do a better punish. You freaked out and did DP DP then AoA which all didn't work (I assume those DPs were meant to be AoAs. There were some executions errors I saw. If you know what they are, then just keep at it on getting it right in training mode.

@Rutger You seem better now, regardless of playing less probably. I'd say work on blockstrings by ending with 5B to make them scared. Also OMC your throws/tentarafoos if they'll kill. Reset works too on the latter.

Edit: I feel like Yosuke versus Liz is really bad for her. Just lame her out, she can't do anything. If she does Maragidyne, just SB through it. If she pressures you in the corner with 5C, buffer super or something. Anything she does after it will hit her. (like 2C, 5D, or maybe another 5C)

Another Edit: I suppose if you do C/D Kunai, I can roll and then punish with A Maziodyne if I'm too far for a 5C. But if I were you, just keep the lead, run away and maybe disrespect her. Just don't get grabbed or hit by 2C.

Thanks.

I think I have worked on blockstrings the least in all the fighting games I've played, I think I will shift focus towards that now.

Zoning Liz sounds like the wrong thing to do in every way, guess Arcsys screwed up, we need a new P4U.
I think I've finally learned to respect Liz's 2C, that move is so good. It's not a match I get to fight often, but I can understand Yosuke being bad for Liz, the speedy characters always seem to be bad for zoners.

Thanks for the advice, on that, Minato. I was actually a couple of those times trying to uh...whatever the term for the slide/dash through things is to try and get out of the corner, and one attempt was a Sweep, which looking back I don't think would have worked either. Your Chie pressure though was kind of well...really annoying, and I don't mean that in a "I was getting angry that you kept doing it" way, I mean that in a "I wasn't sure which way to block and kept getting hit when I would try to switch up where I was blocking" way. Truthfully, even now I'm not entirely sure what to do about it.

And Yosuke? Well, admittedly I get intimidated just by somebody picking Yosuke, so I feel one of my first steps should be to stop viewing characters as "instant doom". I may not know all of the stuff about the game and all that, but I believe Chie is a high enough and strong enough character that there should be a number of difficult situations that she has the tools to deal with if I can properly analyze them.

I'm not even sure what Liz is to be honest. She doesn't have the tools to be a great zoner but it's weird to call her a grappler too. As for zoning Liz, Yosuke might be the only one that can do it successfully. Super jump gliding is hard to catch with most characters. As for ArcSys's design philosophy, I think they should've given zoners better DPs or defensive options. Air dash fighters reward offense a lot, and giving characters who have good rushdown better DPs isn't fair imo.

Yeah, with Chie, just do 2AA into 5A or something. 5A is like Yosuke's 5B, just not as good. If you go into B or C moves, you're committing to something in a way. You can dash cancel them, but the opponent can finally mash out 2A now.

And you're not wrong about that last statement, Chie practically has no bad matchups in the game. The more I play the game, top 3 is Mitsuru, Chie, and Narukami. Mitsuru and Chie go either even or win every matchup, Narukami has 1 or 2 bad matchups.

Hm, you'd say Chie and Narukami are better than Aigis and Teddie? A lot of people I know seem to settle on the "Top 5" being Mitsuru/Chie/Narukami/Teddie/Aigis, but I must admit that even though a couple have put Chie above Aigis, you're the first to put Narukami above both of them. It might be that I don't understand on account of not playing Teddie or Aigis, but perhaps you could give me a couple of ideas on things that Narukami has that makes him better that the two of them either are lacking or don't do quite as well?

When the game first came out, I thought it was Mitsuru and Teddie as top 2. Teddie's still amazingly good, he just loses to Mitsuru and goes even with Chie now. His DP is great against oki, but it's so risky to use as a regular DP at times. I'd say he's 4th or tied for 3rd. I never thought Aigis was S tier. Her neutral game is weak and Orgia mode can only help so much in that regard. She has crappy normals, imo, so she isn't lethal outside of that mode. She does good damage but she has to spend resources on bullets and Orgia.

Narukami has an answer to almost everything. He beats Aigis and goes even with Chie. Teddie's a problem so you need a stronger neutral game, but you can go for max damage instead of oki. Mitsuru is close to even or even. The only problem he has against her is getting out of her pressure and having your oki options cut when she has meter. I used to think his damage was okay, but after learning his more optimal combos and resets, it's pretty good. His oki along shuts down the cast pretty hard, and all his combos end in that or potential resets.

I just feel like these 3 characters make the majority of the cast have so many options limited. Basically top 3 characters I basically have a ton of fun playing as, while bottom 3 (Labrys, Liz, and Naoto) were the ones I wanted to play lol.

Oh, that makes sense. I do remember hearing some things about Chie's oki not working on Teddie for some reason.
Her usual oki doesn't. You can still get oki by ending sweep into j.C and then j.D. Things like Narukami's 5D or Chie's Agneyastra lets Teddie DP out for free.
Hey, you play Mu in BB. She's only gonna get better, lol. And even so, with P4A, it's not like you're playing Shabrys or Naoto.
I think Shabrys is really good. A bit lower than Yosuke or so. Liz and and Labrys are just awful, and Labrys beats Liz pretty badly.

Kanji's tied with Naoto, imo Because he likes her so much.

I admit I'll always call a little bit of BS on Liz being awful, even though a lot of people say it. I'm not saying she's great, it's just the one-touch-death combos sometimes make me question that even if she does die easy when you can get in. And yeah, I agree with Kanji being tied with Naoto too.

Well, she's a glass cannon for a reason. Doesn't help that she's slow too.

She really doesn't have many options once a good player gets in, though. Especially in the corner, if she can't block, and you keep her guessing it's bye bye. You just have to worry about the air unblockable 2B. (I guess the DP too.) Might be something else I'm missing. But you can try to bait those out if the netplay Liz is actually thinking.

I just 2-0'd some stupid B-rank Liz. It was really stupid.

I personally just have problems with her due to matchup unfamiliarity among other things. Never dove into her stuff that much so I get caught :(

But Shabrys is an okay character.

Also, I've been pretty much playing nothing but Noel since I haven't been focusing on BB for a while now. She's easier. I'll probably put some time back into Mu when I've got a break from tournaments.

It's just every special and Persona normal is unsafe. Her DP and GC are terrible too. Her damage is good, but you should try to look at how she starts them to prevent her from getting that good damage. I keep mentioning her weaknesses and where to burst in this thread, I think people just need to remember them.

While I didn't play much P4U today, I actually hit the lab with Chie. Now I realize why my midscreen oki never worked, I was neglecting 2B before sweep. Also Chie has some really dumb damage...

Huh...go figure. I can help you out with some Noel stuff if you ever need it, Lythi. All you gotsa do is ask (even if I might be closet sad if yours kicks mine's butt, lol).

I keep forgetting which of the Labrys's is worse for whatever reason, my bad. And yeah Minato, it took me a while to stop going 5B>Sweep and to go 5B>2B>Sweep instead.

What midscreen oki? 5DD?
Yeah. Every time I comboed without it, people kept DPing in the middle of it because Tomoe was slightly far away, so I knew something was wrong. I got it down now though. People can expect an even scarier Chie because of that and other combos I learned for next lobby.

It's stuff I definitely heard but need to work on. I even have problems trying to get used to blocking bursts and GCs during my oki like when I'm Narukami since I'm just not used to it.

Next weekend I'm gonna have to record the dummy and block these myself too.

Thanks for the offer. :3

My Noel is pretty optimal at this point (at least as much as I make it now), though it does need some practice. Hit me up for some netplay sometime, if you want.

No worries. While I feel that once I do a bit in training mode or get a couple of matches to warm up, I have a relatively effective Noel from time to time, I always feel there's time to grow and adjust. That might just be partly from being just about all-in committed to the character through the years, in a sort of "my FGC pride/joy" way, which sounds a little silly.

I keep getting random urges to try some matches with Akihiko, but whenever I do I go and try some challenge mode stuff, go "whaa?" forget about it, and have the cycle reset. Even though I don't need a secondary now, it's weird.

So it has actually never crossed my mind that keyboard / hitbox players would be able to do simultaneous directional inputs. Do you guys know if there's anything in P4 / Blaz that mitigates this problem?

I think if you input forward and back, they equate to neutral. Pressing up will override down.

Not sure if it's the same for every game though.

It's not the same. Apparently old marvel 3, using that hitbox stick lets you block both ways lol.

I guess I really should just get myself a regular stick to avoid all this trouble `-`.

My special hitbox was hardware-configured for forward+back to equal neutral and up+down to equal up. It's true that official Hitboxes (not sure of current model ones) would allow simultaneous left+right input, and vanilla Marvel interpreted as blocking in both directions which completely negated cross-ups. I'm not aware of any currently played games that have issue with simultaneous directional inputs.

Is that the one that was released in the US or the previously Japan only one?
The one previously released in the states on PS1. I won't be getting it until Atlus does another summer sale or something. I own the original and the game can't be transferred to a PSP or Vita yet.

Too bad this means no PSP localization with the extras.

Edit: Might be a lobby Friday afternoon.

Tonight will be the start of Vegas' local ranbats. We have an absolutely thriving scene of about 5 players. :V

But anyway, I'm being asked to run a stream for it, so you'll be able to check it out around 8PM PST tonight on my twitch channel. http://twitch.tv/aisight

Sorry I didn't join, Minato, but thanks for the invite!

I am dark training in the hyperbolic time chamber for an upcoming tournament with some friends.

Also, Chie is still dumb.
