There were a lot of weird stuff happening that tourney, not just that.

Don't want to say names, but there was a match in singles where both these really good players really just did not feel like playing well. They would just run around the stage taking a few jabs at each other. They would even talk with people beside them. Their whole set was like that.

I dunno, seemed like they were schemin' something fierce.

I'll be on Persona probably tomorrow after school (5PM PST). I want to get some matches in for preparation for the release of P4G, lol.

Urgh, holy hell my essay-ish post in the topic on the M2K/Unknown bit got deleted when my browser randomly closed itself without warning. Oh well.

And cool there'll be others still playing Persona too. Though for now, sleep is what I think I need.

That's weird. I wonder why they keep delaying it. Also random question for people. Last night when I hopped on and played a bunch of matches I did so because I wanted to "get used to being able to play tired" so y'know, I could see how that affects me and stuff (spoiler: not positively at all). So, am I the only one who'll play when I'm feeling different ways, at different times, or situations to see how I can play accordingly or do some of you guys do that too?

Yeah, at least with me when I'm angry or tired I tend to lose my patience faster and try to jump in a lot more. I also suspiciously lose a large amount of "one hit either way" matches when I'm like that because I tend to lose focus on how I've been playing for the round to get them that low health-wise, wind up playing different to try and finish them off, and then lose to the guy making a comeback.

When I'm distracted by other stuff I hold down-back for ridiculous amounts of time.

It depends, I think.

I feel like when I'm tired or frustrated, I keep making dumb mistakes. When I get angry though, I unleash the beast, and usually focus and play a lot better. Not always the case, but I think you get what I mean.

Yeah, I think I get what you mean. Glad to know I'm not well, entirely crazy. I just figured if I know and can identify how I get and how my playstyle changes when angry/frustrated/tired, then I can start to try and prevent it from happening as much.

When I'm frustrated with how I'm playing in BB I pick the black and white color...

I'm going to miss it in CP.

I may take more risks too, I think I'll start using my DP more often in P4A. I don't really pay attention to how my frustration affects me, but I don't think it's too massive of a change.

For the first part, depends on tired. I play awful when I'm sleepy or even when I have an empty stomach. I generally try to avoid playing at these times since I won't even think properly. I will keep playing if I'm mentally fatigued from so many matches though since it helps me think for a longer span.

But yeah, my mood affects how I play. For netplay, I generally don't care and mash unless I'm playing someone that wants to get better or if the opponent is super good. :ohwell:

Offline, I don't get nervous or change my playstyle for the worse, even with little health.

Edit: Also forgot to say, it was nice meeting you, Aisight. Hope to see you again sometime, whether it's here or Vegas.

I have to admit, it's a bit surprising to me that from what I gathered, you're saying you change your playstyles more online than offline. I happen to change my playstyle sometimes when it's offline and person to person, but that could well be due to not being as used to offline play as a number of you guys, or to having people watch me play or whatnot. Gets me kind of nervous and makes me feel I have to do even better than normal which sometimes makes me drop stuff. That being said though, I'm better about it if I've played a lot of casuals.

It was cool meeting you too! Good stuff making it to top 12 in P4A. The next thing I go to in SoCal will probably be SCR.

The only difference between how I play offline and how I play online is my ability to block mixups correctly.

So salty I couldn't go. Would've been really fun.

I'm not sure if you guys see any sort of difference in my play, but I always do my best to keep a level mindset, which, I hope it does. I try to focus my eyes on the opponent and the BURST>SP>Health bars, in that order. Not Persona cards yet because right now I'll just try to break them if I see them, lol. I actually very rarely get frustrated, and when I am it's because of outside interference, and I don't play.

'Course, if you're tired, you're generally going to perform not at your 'peak'. I remember Ken saying that he went to EVO for Brawl literally a few days after his appearance in SURVIVOR. He got 2nd to that CPU kid. (But then this is also Brawl, lol.)

I don't really deviate much from my offline play either. It's just the difference of lag to me, so I try to adjust. Since I'm still a noob with fighters and want to get better, I feel that I don't have the option to sandbag or change playstyles yet.

I believe that your mental state is pretty important in competitive play. The more you familiarize yourself with the game's mechanics, nervous situations (crowds, making predictions), and also keeping your head clean will make you a lot calmer, I can imagine. If you know the game (i.e characters, movements, etc.), you'll feel comfortable knowing how to deal with whatever situation rises. If you are more of an emotional person, I think it's a hit or miss with how it affects your gameplay. Filipino Champ won UMVC3 EVO emotional as heck. People like Daigo just seem to keep cool all the time. It really is a case-by-case thing, so it's something you'll have to find out for yourself.

I remember my first Melee tournament. You wouldn't imagine how much my right leg shook throughout the later parts of the bracket. Some guy even pointed it out to me, so I was embarrassed. So I practiced the next few months. My next tournament for Brawl, I won 1st, but I didn't feel anything totally different. No shaking legs, no worries; just play. My last match wasn't easy for me either since he was one of the active Smashers in the area. I just kept a clean head and did what I could.

I won a handshake. >:[ the venue owner was always salty when he saw me since I used to beat on his Peach and Puff a lot, LOL

I just use online more as my training ground. I do a lot of weird stuff like DPing a ton, never attack for periods of time, or just sit back and what they do at parts of the screen. I dunno, I just shift around these "playstyles" just to see what I can get away with or improve areas I'm weak in.

I'm going to try to make it there. Unless family plans get in the way, I'll be at SCR.

My order's probably SP > Health > Persona Card > Burst XD
That's just my preference since there are a lot of times when I'm not allowed to do certain options just because they have the meter. Surprisingly I bait a number of bursts, but I rarely go out of my way just to bait them. Too many of my opponents drop their combos because they think I'll burst and sometimes it costed them the match.

Since I'm Yukiko, I guess can try to be more aggressive in the corner when it counts. If I get burst to the other end... I'm freakin' Yukiko.

I should adjust my ranking a bit. Maybe more specific:

Opp.SP>Opp.Burst>My SP>My Burst>Opp.Health>>>>>>>>>My Health (Freakin' Yukiko)

LOL. I need to put more thought into this. It still doesn't seem right.

Man all I pay attention to is the sweet music in this game.

And where the characters are.

What!?

What???

Why did I take S4kurazaki's place? Did that happen to you two?

Actually, whenever S4kurazaki and Minato were in a laggy match it would place me in after it ended and would let me record the match.

What the hell?

:054:

GGs everyone, I think I'm done for now. It was fun to finally play Labrys again.

Yeah, something weird has been happening to the online here. Sometimes it took forever to get a room started, and one time Minato tried to get in the room, it told him it was full when there was only me.

ggs guys.

I'm very disappointed in my overall play today. When I wanted a super it didn't come out. When I wanted to airdash, it didn't come out. So many clutch matches and bad decisions. :[

Could be because I'm tired as heck from midterms today, but at least P4G is out tomorrow. Hopefully I'll do better next time.

GGs. And I'm not sure, but PSN has been acting weird today. Maybe there was some maintenance?
Both Sakurazaki and I had issues creating a lobby and inviting the other at the very start.

I kind of want to play more people, but I think everyone's done for the night. Excited for P4G tomorrow though and talking about murders.

Some of this could also be from my continued issues with my internet.

I'd love to get P4G tomorrow, but I can't convince myself to buy a Vita just yet. Good thing it will also be on PSN, but not having a physical copy will be kind of sad. :(

I had issues most of last week even trying to get onto P4A netplay.

I'll do some matches if someone wants, though my PS3's still sitting in my bag from my trip to SoCal.

You don't have to play, Aisight. But if you do (or anyone for that matter), I'm still on PSN.

Something was odd tonight. Moreso than the usual "why I no block when hold back or down back"-ness. I remember 2 occasions where the matches I was watching froze completely and I got removed from the game. The first time I figured it was just a bad hiccup and would be fine, but the 2nd I thought it had to be something with PSN.

I do believe I'm starting to put too much emphasis on keeping health only to put no emphasis on it when I take the lead in order to focus on keeping my Burst "just in case" (even though it's a gauge so early use would have it build up again anyway) and sometimes meter. Oh, and Persona stuff too. Actually, I forgot where I was going with this.

I just don't care about hardware in general. I'm genuinely unexcited about the WiiU and the prospect of the PS4/new Xbox. I don't want a Vita or a 3DS. Of course, I realize that my future hardware purchases are no longer determined by me, but by my son.

I'm so glad I'm not a Kingdom Hearts fan, because following that game across every piece of hardware in existence would be a nightmare for me.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure the NextBox is gonna be the one that comes out next year at Xmas, and the PS4 will probably be like...16 months after that or something so when it's out it's ahead of the NextBox technology wise like the PS3 is the 360.

I don't mind buying handhelds, since each handheld offers unique games for the most part.
As for KH, I do have all the consoles besides a 3DS, but I just lost interest so I haven't been following it.

Sony's in an awkward spot, imo. Giving their direct competitor a full year before releasing their own console is just risky. Especially if Sony isn't able to offer anything different.

I'm holding off on a Wii U. I'll probably buy a PS4 down the line, especially if its games stay region free.
I bought my 360 mainly because it was cheaper and it had Tales of Vesperia (which got ported with extras in Japan). So I doubt I'll be getting the Nextbox.
