Donkey Kong is a mario rep.

In the DK's first game, Donkey Kong, for the arcade, Mario was not in that. Jumpman and Pauline, the damsel in distress, were. (Obviously prototypes for Mario & Peach).

--Mario was NOT in Donkey Kong (arcade version)

DK is a mario rep because of his multiple appearances in Mario oriented games. Playable characters in games named Mario make them a part of the Mario Universe (mushroom kingdom, SMB series, etc)

Mario has never been in a game that had more emphasis on DK than himself. The closest they've come was in the GBA Game released in 2004 Mario vs Donkey Kong where each character shared half the fame of the name.

Donkey Kong has been in a slew of Mario games including Mario Kart, The Mario Party Series, as well as the Mario Sports series. In each and every game DK appeared in he was a playable character. Therefore DK is a part of the Mushroom Kingdom. Dk may have his own franchise as well however he is clearly better known in games from the Mushroom Kingdom
than his own franchise.

Now that we've got that out of the way we can subsequently determine Wario/Wal-Luigi/Geno/ etc as also being part of the mushroom kingdom.

Going back to statistics outlined in the original post:

Smash 64 had 4 Mario Reps out of 12 characters -or- 1/3 of the roster
Melee has 7 Mario Reps out of 25 characters -or- 2/7 -or- 1/3½ of the roster.
Therefore, given the downward trend Mario reps have shown thus far we can determine that provided the decline of new mario characters is constant, that 1/4 or 25% of Brawl's roster will be rep's from the Mushroom Kingdom.

1/3 --> 1/3½ --> 1/4.

So if Brawl has as little as 40 playable characters, 10 of them will be mario reps. Sadly it has been agreed by just about everyone that the Doc isn't going to make the cut this is fine by me, however in this case we can expect at least FOUR additional mario reps to be in brawl at LEAST. (There will probably be more seeing as Brawl will most likely, I hope, have 45+ characters!) This probably means that geno/paper mario/wal-luigi/bowser jr. are all going to make it in.

I'd like to take a moment here to bash everyone who thinks so-and-so doesn't -deserve- a spot in brawl. Do you really think Game&Watch, Sheik, Ice Climbers, Pichu, Young Like, Ganondorf, or Dr. Mario DESERVED their spots in Melee? Based on the current logic of course they didn't! None of them, not a SINGLE one of them were hot 'n happenin' prior to Melee's release. Before Melee I'd never even heard of G&W or Ice Climbers. Sheik appeared only in cut scenes in OoT.

The point is, it doesn't matter the character or what they got going for them. Sakurai has been shown to like retro characters and probably has a bias for kirby (wo0t go waddle-doo :D) You think Metaknight had anything going for him ? (not really) You think he's an awesome addition to Brawl ? (hellz yeah!)

TBH I'm rooting for Kamek* 'coz he just owns. (fat chance huh?)

Just to clarify, I'm not particularly for more mario reps, I feel that a quarter of the roster is a LOT of mario reps and that 6-8 would probably be enough however the numbers predict differently.

Personally I'd like to see more Kirby Characters like Waddle-doo and Waddle-dee as well as sonic characters, too :D but that's irrelevant to the topic of this thread ^_^

Yeah, I forgot Kamek in my list... He actually probably has a fairly good chance (compared to the rest of the characters in my list). I'm gonna go with about a 15% chance, depending upon who else makes it in. Regardless, Sakurai could do some pretty sweet things with a Kamek AT.

Well, not necessarily, sure he was like 12 in the original LOZ, but he was aged to 16 in AoL, which is closer in age to the adult Link in OoT (17) than kid Link. The one in AlttP wasn't so young either, but I'd bet he was younger than 17, but not by much, and Link's age has always varied throughout games, but there's not a definite Kid Link or Adult Link, just a bunch of Links with different ages.

I think that he has a very high "chance".

Well, as we all know, Toad is a whole race much like Pika/Pichu/Jpuff/ All PT's pokemon and Yoshi. I never thought that that attack "lowered" his chances because there are always more than one.

Edit- Relooked at the past polls. Not only was Toad 2nd on the NP poll but was 9th on the over all count of characters of the melee poll (Most of the ones before him are either confirmed, been in melee and are likely to come back or have high chances of being in Brawl (King D3) ) and he was 4th on the series central list (right after Wario).

I think he will get in. Peach's move is just homage to the whole being protected by Toads thing.
