So I didn't do too hot this week at our Wednesday weekly and came in 7th of about 18-ish (I forget the exact number as I don't have the bracket on hand atm).

I lost one to a really good Ganondorf (Pro tip: Learn the offline timing to flame choke. Doesn't matter if you never think you'll face a Ganon offline, go into training mode and learn it. The day you do somehow find someone who plays Ganon, it will make the difference between stocks that never end and stocks that end at 60-70%.) and my roommate's Bowser (We go back and forth; he made some good reads and took it).

On the plus side, a lot of the matches got recorded, including my losses and the salty MM I did with the Ganon player which I also lost.

Congratulations man. How's the field out there in Baton Rouge?
What do you mean? How difficult is the competition? Hard to say since LA doesn't travel very often. That being said, when TX or other OoS players come over, they usually win our stuff :\ We have to step it up, but that's hard when no one travels.

Lots of my videos are in the Video thread, so you can look at my gameplay and judge from that I guess. Once school is done for this semester, I'll try to do ladder more and see where I can get, but I think my play is much worse online, and Pac-Man gets neutered by lag compared to other characters IMO.

That bracket was made for the top 16 that made it out to pools. I took 2nd seed in my pools only dropping one set! n_n

I played in my first in person tournament this past Saturday, 4/11 in Atlanta but it wasn't an official tournament. It was at a convention I went to and 77 people signed up to play in Wii U tournament.
I got 3rd of 77, losing to a Luigi in the semifinals but beating a Sheik in the 3rd place match.

Since I had not done tournaments really before, I was not prepared for Luigi's down throw to cyclone KO up top which got me on more than 1 ocassion at a low percentage.
But certainly was a good experience and I can't complain about a top 3 in my first tournament.

Used both Peach & Pacman equally.

Kicked out of winners vs a Sonic. (2-0, couldn't adjust to the campy hit/run & shield style with either character. Pacman ended up faring worst than Peach against this.)
Kicked out of Losers vs a Shulk (2-1, Used Peach in all 3 matches as I needed the KO power and better grab. Remind me to never take Shulk to Battlefield. I did very well against him in Castle Siege CP though)

Our little Smash Club took the childish route for today and made our tournament 4/20 themed. We all used alternatives weed based tags too. I'm "Pac-the-Bowl-Man" lmao.

I figure I might as well post how I've been doing....

Not well. :-) But did manage to get through 4 rounds at Xanadu (2-wins, 2 losses). My Villager x PacMan matchup needs a lot of work. There were a lot of Ness players as well. Lost my first round to Ness, although beat another...

Overall, just gotta get used to tournament-level play IMO. I'm still rather new at tournies. I've got some friendlies against some of the top-players at Xanadu, and they can read me like a book still.

Indeed. I couldn't tech those Gannon stuff. Managed to beat the Gannondorf because he didn't realize I didn't know how to tech. (He was "reading" my techs and assuming I'd roll into his FSmash. Ha ha dude, I don't know the timing!).

Eventually, he realized it too late and started to do Choke -> DTilt for those KOs. Its a pretty scary OKI game vs Gannondorf.

Villager/Pac is a really volatile matchup. It can be hard to make comebacks against Villager because of how scary his edgeguard game is (this threat has considerably diminished since he can no longer pocket tramps) but hydrant absolutely dominates the matchup. It can be used to rack a tonne of damage up off stage while villager is recovering low, maybe even getting a lucky stage spike if they mistime (I mean top players shouldn't but it's more than possible because tourney pressure). Key is an absolute godsend, it slices Villager's projectile game and should be the go to for almost all situations unless you have a good reason to not charge to key. Key can insta launch pocket hydrants, a completely disgusting, massive ranged, piercing projectile that travels super far, kills at like 70% and does around 25% damage. It took me a while to figure it out as well but I'd say quite confidently that I have the MU almost completely down pat. If you want any further advice, feel free to ask.

Made 17th out of 55 at TTT3, because 24 man brackets are weird (Somehow by winning my first match in brackets, I ended up playing the guy who had beaten me in pools and still placing the same as people who went 0-2 in bracket).

http://smashboards.com/threads/tttt...-april-25-2015-ft-shugo.400579/#post-19085681

I'm both proud and disappointed in myself, because I played well, and I beat some good players (This event was pretty stacked), but at the same time I am not happy with my placement, and with a few less dumb errors I could have made it much further.

I will upload tournament matches to the video thread later in the week (I have all but 1 pool set recorded).

In pools:

- JT (Barely. To his sonic to last stock last minute of game 3 then SD'd like a tard. It was the most boring set ever though...)

-H man: This dude's powersuit Samus was ridiculous. He 3 stocked me game 1 then we went to last stock game 2. Never seen a Samus this good before and definitely wasn't ready for it.

In brackets :

-ITT: Another great sonic main and one of my brawl training partners. We went to last hit of the last game. He clearly started getting in my head by the end of it .

- H man: Yeah I hit him again XD
It went about as well as the first time. H man is the only guy to 2-0 me and he did it twice!

5th out of 22 :: Smash at the Choclate Factory (WiiU) :: Union City, NJ :: 04/30/15

http://challonge.com/snw4us4 Every match I won was with Pacman.

Lost to a Shulk player in Winners semis, it was streamed so the I'll post the replay once it's available. It went to game 3 and ended to time, I completely wasn't watching the timer and got blind sided by it.

Lost to a Toon Link player in losers quarters, my very first time playing a toon Link in customs, I was very impressed at how much stronger he becomes. Game 3 I switched to Lucina and I had the lead the entire match and lost to a very clever gimp. Unfortunately this set was not recorded.

Lost in winniers to a Diddy in round 1, I went into the match focusing on not getting grabbed, which I was good with but I lost all 4 stocks to banana into charged upsmash or custom up b. With the patch the banana is a better kill set up that the grab, I just have to focus on that instead.

Lost in loosers quarters to Sonic, a match up which I know I'm weak with. Game 1 was close but I got too enarmored with my Dire Hydrant so my game became static(I lost all y data recently, and I haven't been able to practice with the custom) the rules at the break are random stages unless agreed to otherwise, I counterpicked DK64 and forced a random match we went to Norfair and I lost. was m first time playing there(I have the 3ds version, not Wii U)

Unforunately nothing was recorded because the streamer is out until next week, too bad because I had a brillant match with my Dire Hydtant I'd love to watch again ^_^

The post I made earlier wasn't really a tournament at a smash specific event.
This weekend though I attended Xanadu for my first official documented Smash community tournament so I was just hoping to take a game. Did a lot better than I hoped! Got 2nd in my pool to advance to Top 16. Played a poor match then and lost but got lots of compliments since it was my first go at a legit live smash event.

Well I didnt do too badly at my local monthly, because of the Xanadau monthly being for nonranked players. Those ranked players came to my monthly instead. I made 13 out of 45-47ish? First in my pool with no dropped games. Had some bad games in top 16 to end in 13th. Lost to a ZSS, and a Jigglypuff I beat 2-0 in pools. I'll post my matches to the video thread later this week.

2nd out of 15: First "Eggs Tournament(WiiU): Clifton, NJ :: 05/13/15 http://challonge.com/EggsSmash

I made it all the way to Grand finals only dropping one game. I've seen in so many tourny streams how the player in grand finals winners gets wrecked the first set and dominates the second set, it never made any sense to me until I lived it. Something about having that extra cushion doesn't make you play as hard even when you mean to. Unforunately I did lose the whole thing in the end but I do feel I out played my opponent, I suicided game 2 on my last stock when I had the lead. And game 4 which should have been the set winning match, I had a huge 2 stock lead, where I messed up my recovery and killed myself and then got K'od at like 20% by a near 200% Jigglypuff, I was mind ****ed and couldn't perform game 5. Oh well, I'm still proud of myself.

The problem is that I never get on stream whenever I am using ym dire hydrant, just last night I had a great match prior to my match on stream with Dire Hydrant but it's never recorded. All I can hope for is that my next tournament on Saturday I do well enough to get a bunch of my matches on stream, the compitetion there should be less feirce as the tourneys I've been attending lately.

A Jigglypuff won?!
Yup. Jigglypuff is pretty good with customs off imo.

I am so proud of the way I played at this tourney ^_^

When I got to the tourney there were only 2 known players so I've figured there is no reason why I shouldn't get at least third. In my first match against Lopez(Mario) he played a lot better than I expected, and I barely won the match. second match he Counter picked me to Battlefiled (which I always ban but forgot to) and won. Third game I became afraid of him and ran away throwing down my on-fire hydrant and hoping it would hit him and I lost. This happened to me tournaments where I am deduced to this pathetic frightened Pacman and when I'm at home or playing online it never does.I thought it and I realized that when I play at home, I never run away from my opponent, play overly aggressive or try to interecept them everytime they come in. I simply own my space, and knock them out when they try to get in. I played through losers and with that on my mind and I was on fire, I lost a few games but the last match was always comfortable enough and I wrecked the guy who put me into losers in our run back.

Wasn't able to take a game(kept them real close though) from Dark Blue(Megaman) but that matchup is tough for me even when I'm playing well. This game where we're both camping each other, picking our spots and constantly changing between who is on the offense, defense and counter-offensive is rough, and I definately think Megaman has the edge in the match up with customs on. I do understand what I did wrong and I'll keep it mind for next time.

Well if I keep playing like this I should be able do much better against the known players so I'm happy.

If it's mega man you struggle with, that's my most researched/played matchup and I would be happy to help you in it.
I used to main both, but got tired of mega man's almost pure defensive style.
Mega man revolves around disruption with lemons to deter your approach in mid range. He normally uses metal blade for when he's fishing for some way to approach. In fact, some mega men won't ever approach you and will just sit in mid range all match. We have all the tools to counter this playstyle.

A dropped pellet from our side B stops all grounded pellets, forcing him to approach. Melons, galaxians, bells, and keys rip through all of his projectiles while the others will clash. Every fruit beats his Fsmash. With these, mega man can't ever force us out and is forced to try and approach the entire match. The reason this sucks is because mega man's approach is among the worst on smash 4. He's slow on the ground, every one of his aerials are unsafe in a short hop, and metal blade (his only real way of approaching) can be stolen from him.

With customs on, the only thing we really need to watch out for is skull barrier which honestly isn't that scary. It starts up on frame 11 and is unsafe to throw out in mid range. If you predict his reflector, you have about 2 seconds to beat mega man to a pulp before he gets his attacks back. However, a smart mega man will usually have a metal blade in hand when throwing up the barrier so be mindful of that.

I normally recommend using either fire or on fire hydrant to break mega man's zone, but we already do that exceptionally well (hell, even Fair + Nair can beat out 3 pellets.)
Now I would say to bring any of the three hydrants. Regular hydrant/ on fire hydrant for Fair or usmash launched hydrants that bait mega man's reflector, or dire hydrant if you want to stop mega man's dash grab approach.

Lol I use to main Megaman too and I dropped him for the same reason, I went from Megaman to Pacman and immediately I felt the fit. I know after the metal blade Megaman’s love to grab, I was pretty good at avoiding that but I didn’t realize his approach was weak without that. And I really only have difficulty in his match up with customs on

No way Skull barrier starts up in 11 frames, the reflective hit box appears to be immediate, meaning It will reflect projectiles even before the animation has completed surrounding his body, and because of this it’s pretty difficult to keep up with him in the projectile zoning/camping game, the Skull Barrier reflects hydrants, including the dire hydrant back at you as well so it’s a major pain(as I am writing this I am now remembering that Megaman loses his entire A button attacks once he has the barrier on, in addition this one doesn’t even have a hitbox either so the minute he puts it on I should be rushing him. I am an idiot for letting that slip by me)

The other problem is that rising Side B, it goes through the hydrant and so does his uair, both of which are amazing for killing so he is one of the very few characters who are major threat to me in the air, which is something I’m just not used to.
I think just approaching him when he has on Skull barrier may tip the matchup in my favor. I was avoiding him and waiting for him to it for pretty much the entire set, which is the exact opposite of what I should be doing.

I also need more practice in side b-ing the lemons(I tried it first game, but couldn’t do it consistently) and I learned last night that you can pellet the razor blade if you block immediately after to avoid the blade itself. I think I got him next time.

Well, here's my last two weekends:

Smash in Marseille: 33rd out of 130-ish.
http://smashboards.com/rankings/smash-in-marseille-2015-singles-top-64.6473/event

Choked to a Sonic and lost to Inter's Lucario.

Dismantle: 25th out of 256

http://smashboards.com/threads/dismantle-results-ft-axe-westballz-dabuz-shroomed-and-false.404832/

I would say False bodied me, but that's not really doing justice to how badly he wrecked my life. He annihilated me. I'm not even sure that I still exist as a sentient being after the whupping he gave me. I really hope that anyone who watched that stream match immediately called the police to report the murder they had witnessed.

Oh yeah and after that I lost to JTWild's Mario/Luigi. I'm slightly salty because while JTWild is a really good player, I could have won that. He CPed Luigi game 3 on FD and I can't believe I let myself lose that. Oh well, gotta level up for next time.

Got 9th out of 83 players at Smash Attack 8 customs. Also shout outs to the Pac-man player PackageFruits for getting 9th as well. I did pretty well playing the WiiU version for the first time.

Last week I entered and didn't make top cut, literally the first time that ever happened; I was really embarassed. I entered this week with a different attitude, I treated everyone as a threat and looked at every win to be earned insted of expected and it worked out.

What I'm even more proud of that winning was how surgical I was with my stage, character and customs counter picks. I appraoched these matches like a science and it was great :D

I used Robin in a single match of winners semis and winners finals but other than that it was all Pacman.

No challonge and I'm not sure if results will be posted up but if they do I'll update.

Played in my 2nd tournament today and got 2nd out of 52. Played Pacman the whole way through. It was single elimination until top 5 then it went into a round robin. Lost only to an Olimar during the round robin but I got bopped from match up inexperience and he knew how to actually combat Pacman. I'm sorry guys :urg:

No challonge and I'm not sure if results will be posted up but if they do I'll update.

Played in my 2nd tournament today and got 2nd out of 52. Played Pacman the whole way through. It was single elimination until top 5 then it went into a round robin. Lost only to an Olimar during the round robin but I got bopped from match up inexperience and he knew how to actually combat Pacman. I'm sorry guys :urg:
