Hey Pac players, as tournaments become more prevalent I thought it'd be great to keep a thread of our tournament results.

I remember this being a great motivator for Peach players back during the Brawl days (this entire thread idea comes from Silly Kyle's thread). It was inspiring to see the progress and success of players with the same character. So let's do it for Pac Man.

If you want your tournaments posted, please include this information:
  • Your smash name
  • Name of tournament and location
  • Your placement and number of entrants
  • Link to the tournament results thread if possible
Optional: Any losses to characters you faced during tournament play

Please try and put it in this format - XX out of XX :: name of tournament (3DS/WiiU) :: location :: MM/DD/YY

So an example is:

LanceStern
9th out of 20 :: Fake Smash 4 Tourney 1 (WiiU) :: San Francisco, CA :: 12/03/14
For the sake of being consistent with the thread, please include this information or I may not post it.
I will update the thread once a week.

Fyi: Special thanks to DrakeRowan and SillyKyle for the thread idea

5th out of 23 :: Keroro Platoon Presents: Smash Sign "Alpha Combustion" :: Lexington, KY :: 10/11/14

-Loss to Amida's Ness, twice.

5th out of 16 :: Comfy and Easy to Wear 3: Silver Forces You to Battle :: Louisville, KY :: 10/25/14

-Loss to Overswarm's Megaman which bumped me to loser, then loss to KERO's Greninja when timer was at 3secs. Would've won the set by time out if it weren't for 3DS controls =/. (Used UpB instead of SideB =/) I'm still salty about this.

Some juicy non-important and off-topic info: The Brawl Peach thread was originally started by me back in the day, & the entire idea of tournament result threads was started by a ZSS main (back then) named Phanna. I gave up the thread to D.Pch when I stopped playing, who in turned gave the thread to Silly Kyle.

Please try and put it in this format - XX out of XX :: name of tournament :: location :: MM/DD/YY
So an example is - 3rd out of 20 :: Fake Smash 4 Tourney 1 :: San Francisco, CA :: 12/03/14

For the sake of being consistent with the thread, please include this information or I may not post it.
I will update the thread once a week.
In the list of information you want it says your smash name, but in the format example it does not include a player's name. So, are you just going to take the name from the poster's profile or do you want us to include our names in the post as well?

Thank you for catching that CostLow. Rowan posted a great example and I will update my thread.

Rowan thank you for the idea of creating this type of thread!

Something I didn't clarify... we're going to need to specify whether it is a 3DS or WiiU tournament. My priority will be WiiU tournaments but just indicate what type of tournament it is

Apex. Abadango and Kool Aid each did well. I believe Abadango came in 8th while Kool Aid was 32nd out of only 800+ contestants.

I just got back from a local tournament where I placed 8th out of 16. I'm not one to usually make excuses for myself but I've had a fever of over 100 degrees for the past three days and I've been on medications that my doctor told me would impair my judgement and make me drowsy, so I think I may not have been playing at full CostLow potential. Still, I taught a lot of guys in my area to respect the big cheese wheel. The person I was knocked out of the winner's bracket by and the guy that knocked me out of the tournament ended up in the grand finals and I only barely lost to the two of them. Maybe I'll take it next time around.

Made 2nd out of 13 Wednesday at a local this week, and for once it actually has some sort of result (usually they just pay us and that's that):

http://daytonsmash.challonge.com/225epicwiiu

This was in OH and the first time I've gone pretty much all Pacman in a tournament.

Went Megaman for 2 games, one for game 3 against Kane's CF since I don't like DH stage for Pac (Plus that MU is like 7-3 for MM) and once in a stunningly bad move for game 3 against SCH's Yoshi in winners (Turns out Megaman cannot kill Yoshi ever). Every other match was Pacman.
Ended up losing to ZSS in GF. If anyone has advice on how to approach that MU, I would appreciate it. The more I play it the more I feel I need a secondary for her too.

I'm a bit salty about the placement. In winners round 3 I faced Slinky, the 4th seed in the tournament. I lost to his Captain Falcon game 1, beat Shulk game 2, and game 3 I built a huge lead vs his Captain Falcon. Due to inexperience and poor decisions, I just couldn't land the killing blow and he sent me to Losers. There I got beaten badly by a Yoshi main playing both Pac-man and Ness.

The indication I got is that my Pac-man can take games off of some of the top players in Minnesota, and if I can minimize poor decisions and find a character to cover matchup weaknesses, I can do some damage in these tournaments. I got some things to work on.

All the way from Losers round 1 to GFs. Of course I didn't go only Pac since the Pac/Villager MU is spooky for me but he did take up a good chunk of my games. Only 8 people there but hey, it's something, right?

I'll take LANWar yet, I swear!

Hey man, if you need help with the Villager MU, feel free to message me. It's a MU I have a lot of experience in. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCw2U6J8_xhqas3dC1YXVm7w/videos You can also watch many matches of myself against my friend's Villager on my youtube channel.

Seeing as I hadn't done it in the proper format before, here you go Lance (assuming you just haven't gotten around to doing it in which case just ignore this post)

Firedemon, could you get that in the proper format please?
Paper Maribo do you have a challonge bracket with that?

And are these tournaments getting reported in the Tournament Results forum? We need more points for the Pac!

I just placed 4th out of 32 today in the San Diego region. Definitely no slouch players here either, but I did get some favorable escapes by the skin of my neck. http://challonge.com/get_smaashed2

Congratulations on placing well everyone. Phampy incredible placing!

I know this was posted a while ago, but man, your health is not a John. If you are sick, i DO NOT expect you to play 100% perfect. People gave M2K so much **** for his Melee placing at Apex'15 when the man was hacking up a lung ON STREAM.

*sigh* I am destined to never actually WIN a tournament.

Allow me to set the scene:

It is winner's finals. I have gotten to this point by putting the ONLY person who consistently beats me at our locals into losers (Huzzah finally found out how to fight ZSS!). The Score is 2-1 in my favor and we have just ended game 3.
All of a sudden my vision goes super blurry. Huh, my contact must have slipped; whatever, this happens all the time, I take a minute to fish it out to put it back in correctly.
Joke's on me, somehow through divine intervention my contact found a way to rip itself in half while still in my eye. I can now only somewhat see, but try to play out the rest of the set.
I lose 3-2 losing my last stock (Had a % lead, but can't say exactly how much as I couldn't read the %) to Halberd's canonball as I couldn't tell where exactly it was and didn't think it was close enough to hit. I was wrong.

I try to quickly run home and get new contacts before rushing back to play in loser's finals. I unfortunately have to drive very carefully due to my eyesight problem and manage to hit EVERY. SINGLE. LIGHT.
This should be a 5 minute drive. It takes me 15-20.
Once I do reach my house I can't find my contacts. I spend about 10-15 minutes looking everywhere. It occurs to me that the last time I traveled out of state I had put my spare contacts in my duffel bag... which I carried my WiiU to the venue in... and left at the venue.

By the time I got back I was DQ'ed (Understandably so), and my contacts were in fact in that bag. I COULD HAVE CHANGED CONTACTS AT THE VENUE THIS WHOLE TIME!

At that point I took my 3rd place money and just left. I don't know whether to call this divine intervention or Karma for something I may or may not have done yet, but god DAMN it I don't think I deserved this.

TL: DR Version

The heavens conspired against me and I took 3rd at a local today.

I had a bad tournament last time as well.

Won my first round match going Pac twice, winning 2-0.

Next round was against my region's best player and one of the best player's in the country. For some reason our match took ages to come up but I was so chilled it was amazing.

So I pull up a seat for my game, sat next to me were two of my non-smasher friends (attending purely to support me), one of whom told me just how impressed she'd be if I knocked this guy into Loser's. Game 1 comes in and I'm Pac. After a shaky start, I claw it back and win. I couldn't believe it. Game 2, I switch to Yoshi because I hate T&C as Pac. I'm dominating. By the time he's killed me, I've already nearly sealed the 2nd stock. Back into it and I continue to dominate. I couldn't believe it. I was on top of the world. Nothing could go wrong. The crowd is right behind me, they're loving it. Nobody's ever really had it over this guy and here I am about to 2-0 him.

He was on the ledge and I was trying to read a roll or a jump. He jumps, I down b

All the way down

To my death

Turns out I'd horribly mis-spaced it and was far too close to the ledge. The crowd gasp in disbelief, I smack my head into the desk.

Suddenly all that domination I had is gone and my play is a little shaky, I lose Game 3 and am sent to losers. I then proceed to lose 2-0 to a guy who was at his first tourney.

Not gonna lie, was incredibly mad at myself. Still am a bit.

Not quite as bad as your Story, Fromundaman, but I was pretty mad.

Paper Maribro, I know that feeling. I actually almost did that as well this tournament (Hit them into a yellow trampoline with Bair and horribly misjudged my ending lag, causing me to be unable to jump before I hit the red and died). The difference is that I came back to win the match. You have to be able to power through mistakes like that.

I know, much easier said than done.
A couple things I do to try and counter this (And I have been struggling with this a LONG time) are:

-Have a drink (usually a soda, but that's just me) with me at all times so I can take a break between games and drink. I don't know why, but this clears my head. I started doing this in Injustice to prevent myself from doing a rage restart and going back into the game frustrated.

-Wait on the respawn platform after a stupid death and put it behind me, sometimes with an actual hand motion, as dumb as that sounds, and instead of focusing on the mistake and what could have been, I try to force myself to focus on what I need to do to win it.

-This is really REALLY dumb but it works for me:
Some of my friends and I categorize a miraculous comeback as a Guile's Theme comeback (IDK if you've seen any fighting game comeback where that song is added on top, but it makes it way more hype) and when not playing during friendlies we would start to sing this song when a comeback was starting.
Now I'll start internally singing Guile's theme when I need a comeback. My friend actually took this a step further and will play Guile's theme on his MP3 player when he is a match away from losing a set.
I don't know why, but it seems to help us keep that momentum, and at least in my case, get more and more hype as I play, not willing to let it end in disappointment.

-In between matches spend 50% of your time thinking about the game and what you need to do in terms of strategy and stage ban/pick or w/e, and about 50% clearing your head of any mistake and focusing on not making them again.

I couldn't really come back and win that match as I was on last stock when I SD'd. SDing is something really bad that's in my gameplay atm and 3/4 sets I've lost, I've SD'd in one of the games. I'm still kinda mad that I threw away such a big lead over such a good player.

Will keep all of this in mind, so thank you. I don't really like listening to my own music while playing smash as it takes away my concentration of the game, I do however, choose my own preference of music when selecting the stage so I will continue to do that.
