just got back from T.

i will be in the next bi-weekly, so andrew you don't have to find a new partner, I was in T. starting friday afternoon so I couldn't come... in general I prob. wont be able to make it out every week, but I'll do my best for the bi-weekly every other...

I really like the rules we have, though I think lylat cruise should move to Counter and I'm happy to see distant planet on the banned list, also bowsercide should prob have the %'s of the players looked at before they die... though that would be hard... that's a very tough one to call in general... though seeing a bowser in the tops really would surprize me so giving him an advantage (win in case of tie) at least makes him not suck

who was playing rob on friday? i want to ditto!

Excellent! Team KingAce go go go

btw, I heard that a return trip to Montreal is 40$. I would pay this if others were definitely going.

Ive looked on the site and the prices arent as bad as I thought, considering gas prices. If you are a student you can get it for 43.50 or standard is 63.45. Also some housing will be provided by some of the Montrealers namely Joel and WarranThad so far. If someone isnt able to drive up there I suppose this ill be taking this route. Before food costs it comes to around $70, add in 25 for food maybe less/more and its pretty much 100 id say. Not including MMs if anyone would be so inclined.

ok i'm in! lol

where do we officially sign up and register a place to stay... i know if you buy a bus ticket in advance it's a bit cheaper (i am pretty sure) so i would rather get this organized asap 'cause i'm not technically a student yet and i'd rather this was as cheap as possible

wilman, we should probably think up another name other than team king-ace... rojo caliente!

I might go to the Montreal tournament, and if I go I might be able to borrow my parents' car. I don't think there will be room for everyone who wants to go though; I could fit 3 others comfortably, 4 others uncomfortably (it's a 2-door). WarranThad has offered housing so we would have a place to stay Saturday night.

Again, this isn't 100% for sure; if I'm on call that weekend for whatever reason I can't go, and even if I do go I can't guarantee I'll have the car. Keep looking into bus prices, etc. because even if I can drive I'm pretty sure I can't drive everybody who wants to go.

edit: Orlando, if I do go we should team :)

Yes Thad and I are offering housing. I live about a 5 minute walk from the venue whereas Thad is driving distance. Thad's place is much nicer but I'm willing to host more people. I said 6 but if the Ottawa people turn out to be more than that I can make accommodations where you can all chill together. If you're looking to party afterwards I would suggest a different location. As I said on the tournament thread you can stay at my place Friday evening as well.

Yeah sure teams sounds nice. How soon will you have more details regarding car/attendence? If I were to bus I was thinking leaving Friday just to avoid same day problems if they were to arrive, id hate to be late. There is an official tournament thread here: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=188011 to register and what not.

Also sign me up for Singles and doubles for the bi-weekly. It is melee right? :p

For the biweekly sign Knuckles and I up for doubles, and both of us up for singles. We're still figuring out if we're driving to Montreal. I'd imagine there would be the 4 of us, but HiDef might not go, ergo 1-2 spots in our vehicle. If we go, of course.

I am so confused...

Is there going to be a regular Bi-Weekly at Fogel's this Friday, regular time? If so, I am still in need of a partner so sign me up for at least doubles and I'll get a partner eventually.

Just to clarify things, I will NOT be going to Montreal for the tourney.

What is this SBR?

I too am in need of a partner for doubles this biweekly. (I'm looking at you Derek, Captain Falcon team! jk)
SBR stands for 'Smash Back Room'. It's a cabal on Smash Boards that's composed of a lot of high ranking players (at least in Melee). They have a sort of Illuminati-like influence on Smash... of course the guys at EVO are cool enough to do things their own way!

On that note, GGPO needs more players! Everybody, go out and download GGPO right now! Then download the Third Strike roms and then play with me all night long!

As for partners, I'll partner with you if Ian can't make it/doesn't want to partner/is busy playing on GGPO. It's not to say that I consider you second, it's just that you don't have GGPO.

On that note, everybody, go download GGPO right now!

Oh yeah, sadly I will not be able to go to the Montreal tournament. All of my supervisors (who should download GGPO + Third Strike) at work just so happened to have booked it off, leaving me, and nobody else, to cover them. Apparently two weeks notice is rarely enough. :(

Of course, I could just pull a Derek...

note to Derek: go download GGPO + Third Strike. Now.

I would suggest pulling a Derek, it is basically fail safe. Unless you are actually trying to keep your job, then your ****ed.

Well that sucks that you cant make it, but to make you a bit happier I will download GGPO and 3s once I order a control stick. Ill get the one you got for now, it seems pretty decent.

@Joblin: Yes, there is a normal biweekly on Friday.
@Orlando: For the car, I'll have to ask my parents, but I should know by the time the biweekly rolls around. I'm not on call that weekend so that part won't be a problem.

There won't be many people this week; no Randy, no Derek, and probably no Ian. I'm still debating entering Singles, now that I've seen in tourney results that Diddy can own I'm considering playing him again, but I don't think I want to get straight into throwing my money away by trying him in a biweekly.

So far we have:

Singles

Fox
Knuckles
PNDMike
IvanEva
buenob
Retlaf

Doubles

Never Gonna Give You Up
PNDMike + Knuckles

Team KingAce

Harold, we're going to have to practice a bit or something because quite frankly I don't want to lose money against my teammate. Killing your teammate is a no no in Brawl. Stop playing 3rd Strike and practice some team matches or I'll have to Toronto it up and find another partner, lol. I've played many matches and I can't seem to avoid that u-smash!

Heh, you shouldnt really have to be avoiding his attacks :p. Also id be playing alot more 3s if I had GGPO, it really is seemless with no lag! And since everyone on there is so good just want to keep playing till you can actually land a decent combo. Atleast that how it is for me. Im just worried that 3s might be taken off in the future :(.

Cameron: Ok thats cool. In the event that you do get your car ill call a spot right now :).

No worries about my killing you. Having gone back to Third Strike I'm realizing that you have to take care of your partner. For example, Necro doesn't attack his little girlfriend ever. What Necro does attack, however, is Yuns. I hate Geneijin so much...

Orlando: Yes! Definitely get the same stick that I have; it hasn't failed me yet (although with the way I twirl it around for Alex's 360 super that may not be the case for much longer...). As well, next time you're over bring your big gym bag (or whatever you carried it in) so you can pick up your X-Box. GGPO has pretty much sealed it's fate as far as ever being played goes. Alternatively, I can drop it off on Friday on my way to Smashfest.

Actually, Harold has great potential as a team partner. I personally think that if he stayed calm and used his head more :p he would be great.

@ Joblin (and any potential Harold partner): I suggest practicing sitting back and supporting Harold. IT is a team tactic which I find works out really well, have one guy sit back and support the main attacker who goes Ape ****. Harold seems to go crazy and try to kill all the oppenents, so I would suggest sitting back and act as a support/life bank.

Oh, and depending on the people going to montreal, I might go as well, so who is actually going.

LOL, character johns indeed

i think regardless of how we're getting down andrew (retlaf) and I are for sure going... if there's a hotel nearby i wouldn't mind splitting on a room with people, otherwise we should claim spots at warrenThads asap.

i saw a bunch of others on the list as well, but can't remember off the top of my head

also, we really should change our name to rojo caliente, going to tournaments with kingace will get confusing

2 things:

1) Haze and Hidef will attend the biweekly as well, doubles and singles. Knuckles and I's team name is Team Boyscout Camping TRIP!

2) We're probably not going to be able to go to Montreal. It's the last weekend for two of our good friends before they ship off for college, so we're pretty much obliged to stay. HOWEVER we are trying to convince them to celebrate in Montreal so we can go. . . >_> Count us out unless otherwise noted.

ps, would my 21 hit dudley combo's put me above average on GGPO? or would I have to resort to ken cheeze?

Well depends on who you can do the combo to. If its just the computer then no you wont be above average. Also its not really the combos that others do that overwhelming its just everything else such as mindgames, perfect spacing, Kara throws, and perfect timing (Harold can tell you about the crazy remi player that can time "sonic booms" to make them come out like hadoukens) which all lead in to some type of combo/super.

Harold: If its not too much trouble you can drop it off on friday before the smashfest, ill be home around 5:00 but someone will be there anytime before that. I was also looking at some other arcade sticks and decided that ill probably end up buying the x-arcade stick rather than the usb one. Its $100 but looks pretty decent.

Randy: Im going to Montreal.

Edit: First step to the brawl HD Remix :)

Can somebody with Homebrew and sd card try this out? This would be kind of interesting to see/test.

Combos don't really get you anywhere in 3s, besides each chars basic combos, you need the mindgames, spacing and those option select parries basically what flash said.

hahaha oh well, too true :) then it would look like i have to put the ken cheeze on... i can't space exceptionally well with dudley... it turns into me mixing up forward fierce and fierce with the occasional jab machinegun blow and trip

though to dice -- if you can't combo, then you can't punish properly, one reason why i love dudley is he's a bit like ike in the fact that you just have to catch your opponent off guard less times than with other characters in order to win, though instead of brute force, rando semi-infinites (char specific) and huge chains which don't involve super or powerful combo-supers is the way to punish with dudley...

and if you can't lowforward super with ken (combo) then you're boned lol

anyways to brawl!.. ya i don't have much to say about brawl right now lol

(replying to all 3 of these)

To be honest, it's not necessarily a bad tactic. I'm usually the lifebank/support/opportunist in teams with random people (ie: not regular partners), simply because most people don't think about their partner and just attack whoever's closest. A lot of people treat teams like it's two separate 1v1s where people randomly interfere with each other. You can do OK if you let those people do their thing, and just try to back them up.

In my opinion it's more fun when you get more familiar with your partner's style. For me, teams with myself/Lanowen in Melee or myself/Orlando in Brawl are the most fun because we've played together so often. I don't know what Orlando's opinion of our teamwork is, but 99% of the time I seem to know what his current plan is during the match so I can adjust what I do accordingly.

Mostly, teams is awareness. Aside from not attacking your partner, there are other little things you can do like attacking people comboing them, or if they are trying to recover, give them cover so they can't be edgeguarded/edgehogged. If you are too focused on what you personally are doing, you will miss chances like this because you just won't be paying attention to your partner's situation.

Oh, and depending on the people going to montreal, I might go as well, so who is actually going.
Randy I may be going to this tourney, if I go I want to see your Ganon vs. Kage's whatever. If you win you are my hero :) Were you thinking of driving? I just wanna know if there's another car or not. If you can't drive you can probably come with me (if I go).

Also, totally off topic, there's a Kongregate challenge on now where you can win Tafari. He's pretty broken so you should try to get one. Characters can't switch out vs. him, and he can do Hide+Ambush for an almost guaranteed one hit KO. BTW, the game you have to play is glitchy on level 2, there's a part where you can get stuck (I got stuck twice in a row), so just get the points for the card then kill yo' self somehow.

Hey all, It's Justin. I'm not going to be there today. I'm feeling like crap so I won't be able to kick Harold's but with Old Mannondorf. I'll make it for the bi-weekly unless I die or something horrible. First it's Greyhound buses, next it could be OC Transpo!
Ok, so, since Justin has promised that he'll be coming, how's about we make him pay us each $50 if he just so happens to not come. Sounds good? I mean, it's right up there: "I'll make it for the bi-weekly unless I die or something horrible." Now, you wouldn't lie to us, now would you Justin? ;)

As for combos not being much in Third Strike, I know what you're saying but it's so not the case against Yuns. Yun belongs in a versus game. :) Dice, I hope you get GGPO as we need more Canadians on it (absolutely no lag vs. other Canadians).

Cam, don't knock up smashing your partners. It's almost as satisfying as spiking them. Almost. Seriously, once you start to do it, it'll be the only thing on your mind the whole match.

By the way, since I can't make it to Montreal, how's about we raise the entrance fee for this bi-weekly to $20? Ok? Sound good? C'mon, I need to start paying back OSAP...
