People still play melee, maybe not at a high level, but almost everybody has heard of the game. I brought a GameCube to campus and people were pretty hyped about it.

Edit: One guy wavedashed once or twice. I was a bit surprised.

Anyways, I'm hoping this event is successful.

When and where do you guys play? I would love to play new people. Unfortunately school and bike training are eating up a lot of time currently, but if your looking to draw new people, I play my friends regularly and would love to mix it up a little.
I'm bad but improving, got L cancels and basics down just need to play more people.

I also would be able to have a small group over to my place from time to time. We have an alright melee set up big enough for 4 to 6 people maybe 8 but that would probably be stretching things.

We love mixing things up 'round here, too! Blitz and I have been taking turns trying to get No Damage Clear in Adventure lately, ha.

I'm dropping species for now and focusing on Falcon and Marth. I'll use them against less experienced players.

I'm also retiring my controller and using one of my older ones. The L button was sticking before but now it's SO much better.

Pink Falcon is beautiful.

Yo, Ottawa Melee. It's been a good long while since I've swung by the Smash sections of the boards around here, so it's good to see you guys are still going. Hopped in here to link the Algonquin tourney for next month to you guys, but I see that Alan already passed the link onto Bl!tz who shared it here. I haven't been to the actual site of the tourney, but I can say that the main room that the random weekly chillouts that apparently a couple of people sometimes have setup Melee at is sweet, and that Krackatoa (the guy organizing all the stuff) is really a pretty chill guy. If you guys have any questions about things feel free to either contact me on here and I'll pass them along to him to see if I can help ya with getting them answered. Rock on, Melee.

My name is Cris, I'm from Mexico but right now I live in Ottawa. I would like to meet people who play smash melee. My main characters are Marth, Falco and Samus although I'm a little rusty now, lol. Anyway I was wondering if I could join you guys in your future melee activities (meetings/tournaments)?

Awesome! We usually play at my house, and there is a tournament coming up in March. If you ever want to play, just post here and we can figure stuff out. I'm available most of the time right now.

Perfect! I just need to buy a gamecube controller because I left all my stuff at my parent's house. Any advices where I could get one. I checked at kijiji but I couldn't find any in a reasonable distance.... How often do you gather to practice melee? I definitely want to attend this tournament you just said!

We haven't had one in a long time so it's pretty exciting. I'm hoping it'll boost some interest in the game.

I'm not sure about gamecube controllers, you might have to buy them online. You could also get a gamecube and use the controller, lol. It's hard to find something at a reasonable distance these days...

I have a spare controller I could lend you but it's not great...

Right now, we gather every two weeks or so. It's varying a lot depending when people are free. I'd like to get something happening weekly though!

I'd say we've been hanging out pretty often, at least just Chris and I. We also play 64 and Minus, and then various assorted games/special modes, though we'll probably limit it to Melee for larger gatherings.

If you guys have any games you've wanted to try out, let me know and I'll see if I have them.

ahh man I remember when I used to play those crazy matches with my brother some 9 or 8 years ago.... giant melee + mushrooms, HP battle + tomatos, etc.

Stamina gets less fun the better you get at the game, sadly

Lightning gets more fun, though!

You guys should work on your moonwalking. It's incredibly useful. Bunny hoods help at first, lol.

I sent a message to some guy that was selling his GC with a controller 2 days ago, but he hasn't replied yet. I'll probably start looking somewhere else.

Can you guys please send me (on private message from this forum if don't want to make it too public) the address of the place where you're going have the next meeting?

I think moonwalk could be a useful move, although I have only seen C. Falcon getting real advantage of it. It's kinda hard to do it with other characters, Luigi maybe??

32 Celebration street! I'm not really concerned about it being public anymore, lol!

I find moonwalks most useful for Falcon, and even then it's limited (grabbing the ledge, occasional off stage b-air). Other characters can use it, but it's even more limited.

It's flashy though so you should use it and everyone will think you're cool, haha!
