"Haha, balanced? You mean how the only real viable characters in tourneys were Fox/Falco/Falcon? 3 characters out of 20 something. Or how they had to ban half the stages because they introduced 'random elements' into the game? Or how the game has item pickups and they banned those as well? Lol, show me another 'deep, balanced competitive fighter' that had to do that.

Wait, don't! I'll answer for you: None of them had to do that because they ARE actual fighting games. Smash is a casual party game where you play as cartoon characters hitting each other with bats and ray guns, glorified by pasty autists like that crybaby mew2king as some kind of 'competitive fighter.' You can't change the facts: the game had to have 3/4 of it ripped away before anything remotely competitive could be scraped out of Smash.

That said I enjoy it for what it is. Idiots who try to make the series into something it's not are just entranced by the 'deep' appearance' of a game because characters can move fast because they hump the ground and use an infinite reflector to bounce people off Final Derpstination"

this is mostly jsut showing that even now...

other communities hate us like mad....and don't even acknowledge us and our games as reall fighters, yes, they won't even accept melee as one.

despite that smash has lasted, (and specificly one game) and thrived for years now, as one of the biggest competitive games around, other communties....still hate us just cuz of how our game is completly different in design from other fighters.

Well, they are SOMEWHAT right. This is made as a party game, and the community turned it into a competitive game. Sakurai didn't make Smash Bros. with the intent of it being a competitive game. (Though, I wish he did)

Also, Melee has at least seven viable characters (and many low tiers appear to be better than we think). If you can ignore a certain masked bat, at least half of Brawl's cast is viable.

And this is the part where we link every combo video in existence.

I think Melee is very good in terms of competition. Brawl however, is a party game. Tripping defines it all.

Chances are that on top of having his opinion, he's just trying to impress his buddies.

Look at all that bias everywhere.

Honestly, it doesn't matter what one guy on some forum thinks. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and every game or sport has a large number of fans who hate everything else no matter what. Sure, you can rationally argue that Auburn was statistically better than Alabama last football season (:troll:), but do you really think that you'll change the 'Bama fan's opinion?

tl;dr- It doesn't matter, kid.

Oh em gee, someone hates something that you like, RAGE! Smash really is an oddball as far as competitive fighting games go, so you can't really argue that it's a "proper" fighting game.

If we could somehow put into song that our community is full of people who smell, don't get laid, act like little kids, and just don't have a mature demeanor in general, it'd sound like the pokemon theme song you all chose to sing in unison.
^Doesn't really help.
In case you forgot.

Julian needs to educate himself about Melee.

He also forgot Peach, Sheik, Marth, Ice Climbers, and several others. That's considerably more than most other fighting games, where viable characters are a select few.

I bet Mew2King could pick up whatever cliched fighting series Julian plays, and probably **** him.

Name at least 3 modern "cliched" fighting games that only have a few viable characters. Take your time.

Besides, the guy plays Halo.

Take a look around? There are plenty.

I never even read his original post, but Halo isn't even a fighter. Why is he tossing an uneducated opinion around?

No, I will not "take a look around." If you have to resort to turning the question around on me because you can't think of any 3 examples, then I see no reason to continue this.

And some american football fans bash soccer (REAL football) all the time. They have the right to their opinion, but they have probably never watched many full games of soccer. The same goes for this.

Also, trolls will be trolls.

He's not a troll, but legitimately serious with his claims.

Street Fighter and Tekken come to mind. Not sure about MvC or BlazBlue.

Tekken I can sorta agree with because I've never played it and don't particularly like 3d fighters, but it has a decently large competitive community, which has to
count for something.

Street fighter, though... Lol. It's been around forever, has a ton of characters, has a huge competitive community, and has decent balance. I don't particularly like it (BB ftw!), but it's still a fun game.

Yeah Smash Bros is an oddball. Melee can be competitive, but it's not the best at it. I personally suck at traditional fighters, and I tried hard. SSFIV, MvC3, etc. I just couldn't do it. I think it wasn't my cup of tea though, as:

-I hated how online everyone used the same 3~8 chars, and won a lot with spam tactics
-You have to dedicate a lot of time to FGs to be great at them, which ruins time to play other games. (Like what mmos do)

Those were my two big problems. I love beating games 100% and moving on, so MMOs/Games that require that much time sink are not for me. I'll play MH, Pokemon, or Melee every now and then competitively, but I can't dictate a game schedule to get better.

If Melee had an ****ty announcer screaming every AT we did with big letters next to the health bar like Street Fighter, we'd be taken seriously to.

LMAO No.

Tbh I think it's fair to claim that most fighting communities are jealous. How many of them are as successful as smash? We have a gigantic grassroots tournament scene. Many areas have successful weeklies; some (HOBO and Phase, anyone?) have monthlies that often draw over 100 people.

Yeah, they're jealous.

Its opinion lol. Until they join the community and experience the games for what they are they won't stop *****ing about it. EVER. Generally, people have no sense of truely understanding another's opinions or beliefs until they themselves experience the same situations as the other person has.

@BPC: Dun' get into a "my community is better than yours" argument lol. Equals mutual flaming. :/

List of fighting games that have lasted 3 years?
List of fighting games that have lasted >10 years? I can think of exactly two: SF2T and Melee.

Guilty Gear? Dead. Blazblue? Mostly dead. MvC2? Dead long before MvC3 came out. TvC? Dead. MvC3? Getting gay, going to be dead fairly soon if they don't patch it. Street Fighter, Tekken, and Soul Calibur are the only noteworthy ones I can think of that hold a candle to the smash community. Maybe MvC3, but I'm willing to bet that that will fade into oblivion long before Brawl or Melee does. The smash community is really ****ing solid.

I wasn't really implying anything, I was just saying they are bigger. lol.

But in the end their opinion doesn't really matter. And anyways who cares, just play whatever you want to play.

Edit: There's always going to be people that will say: "Oh So you like oranges? Well **** you because I hate oranges." To me taste cannot be argued, if it could be then that's really bull****.

I wouldn't say jealous; I'd just say they hate the concept. All other FGs are the same sidescrolling fighting for the most part, but Melee/Brawl is very different. Also, the matches are longer (usually). And not everyone uses the same 3 characters [MVC3].

But I can't play worth **** on traditional fighters, so meh.

hate to say this but this is true about smash64 and Melee. And even worse, even when you do the same thing with Brawl, it's STILL NOT COMPETITIVE :(

Melee is actually a lot more balanced than a hell of a lot of fighters, in terms of how many viable characters exists. Melee was starting to give the scene cred, then that **** got dropped in the public eye for Brawl, so yeah.

Yeah.

If I recall correctly, Mew2king has a statistics/tips&tricks guide somewhere out there for the first Halo game.

Here's my question: what games are at EVO?

Considering he's all the way out in Europe, and is known for making rather sensationalist posts with varying degrees of accuracy, I'm not completely surprised at his views of the traditional fighter scene.

The fact that the Smash community is split down the middle on its own franchise is not particularly great support for it.
