I really, really want Shanks to have no DF power. For him to be at the very top without it would be amazing.

Yeah, I agree. He even made a point to Luffy in the beginning of the manga that a pirate who doesn't know how to swim is worthless. Something like that...

I thought this chapter was
annoyingly anti-climactic. I was hoping for some big clash but shanks just says stop the war's over and it works. Someone said something along these lines on AP forums which I agree with: So if Whitebeard and Shanks showed up together would the gov't just say that's too much and give up? I mean, it makes sense. most of the world gov't forces are in fighting condition. I just didn't think it made much sense that they just listened to Shanks and I didn't really enjoy the end to this otherwise awesome arc. I find it kind of funny how just going from chapter 579-580 it's like

I found it a fitting end for this arc. It gives us the feeling that there really is much more to come, and that this battle has marked a new era: The era of Blackbeard, Shanks, and the will of the fallen being passed on to Luffy.
The point was that Whitebeard was killed, Ace was freed and killed, Luffy escaped, and neither side wants to suffer further casualties. Sengoku seems to show a lot of respect for people on his level, including Garp, Whitebeard, Shanks, etc. He wants to protect the world government's reputation, and obviously he didn't plan for any of the masses to see the death of Whitebeard or Ace. Sengoku acknowledges that many people in the world might see the Whitebeard pirates as heroes, so the reason that Shanks told everyone to "save face" is because any further fighting would be pointless.
Since Shanks' level is similar to Whitebeard and his entire crew is perfectly intact, his threat level is way too large. Even if the admirals could put up a fight, there would be no point: the purpose of the war was to draw out Whitebeard, not Shanks.

Whitebeard and Shanks are independent pirates, just like the rest of the Yonkou are. that is why the Government tried to stop their meeting 100 chapters back; if they did join up, they could defeat the WG.
The thing is, Pirates are selfish; they aren't fighting the WG, they're just trying to get on top of the big pile. The people that are fight the government are the revolutionaries. If Shanks really wanted to see the WG fall, he would have teamed up with WB, but he doesn't. He just wants to be a pirate. He's not a hero in the sense of vanquishing evil. Neither is WB or Luffy, for that matter. But they're a hero to pirates and that's why they are exalted among the pirates and only the pirates.

I guess that's a fair stance, I just felt it was too anticlimactic. Great arc though, just didn't appreciate the ending :\

I really liked this chapter even if nothing insane happened it just shows shanks bad *** personality and Black Beard pirates vs Red haired pirates would be so much better then the straw hat pirates lol.

So how do you guys think Luffy would stack up against the other supernovas. At this point he's probably way stronger than them imo. I am curious though as to how one would go about fighting some of the supernovas with crazy DF abilities. Like Bonney, for example. She can make you into a baby. How much of a chance could baby Luffy possibly stand. Law is another one the comes to mind. It must be kind of tough to deal with your opponent when you'r heads on your hand and your *** is a cannonball lol. I also can't wait for a future Zoro vs. Killer match.

iirc the arc started when they first went off to save Hachi. When the Thriller Bark Arc ended. Which was way back in March of 08 XD

Arcs are sorted usually by location, sagas are sorted by storyline and have several arcs. Like the CP9 "saga" was about defeating CP9 and saving Robin... in it was the Water 7 "arc", the Enies Lobby "arc", etc.

So, I watched the new episode today...and I ask...
Why is Blackbeard sooo goood?
oh and I hate this episode because luffy sandbags against Hannibal.
"Oh, let me turn back to normal. Oh wait, he's not down yet, let me go gear second." I am sure that going gear second would waste your energy.
but anyways, I look at Blackbeard now, and he's god tier.....oh and you know what else?
He can absorb poison and not get hurt! Wtf? he absorb that poison door like is nothing...
so that mean, he could absorb some of Magellan's attacks...minus the poison mist I take.
good episode though, love the will power to protect the prison that Hannibal showed.
