Lol ok, it wasn't awful, im just exaggerating. The way they displayed everything was bad though. The content was nice. If your a real Sony fan - there was a lot to love. You caught me though, I'm not really too much into Sony lol. I do own a PSP-2000 however.
When I look at the presentation and effort behind the other two companies though, it's really something compared to Sony. There were many flaws I could point out in their press conference.
-The PSP Go was a huge let down. It's an amazing device, and its showing should have been HUGE at E3. It wasn't though. They focused on it for only a couple of minutes. Every single thing that was said we already knew. Even Tretton was joking about how many leaks there were, that's not a good sign at all. Instead, they brought it out, cool cool look at it, there we're done. No one was impressed, they know all of it. Oh come on Sony, how do you leak it accidentally through your own online magazine. Epic fail.
If they had a proper showing for the PSP Go, it would have been ground shattering.
-Their presenters were awful. Most press conferences have people come out to demo their games. Microsoft had people like Kojima come out to show off the new MGS, along with Kudo showing the Natal. Nintendo had the treehouse group showing NSMBWii, and Sony had people showing off games like Uncharted, MAG, GT5, and more. Almost everyone who presented for Sony was quite down. They weren't very good speakers, they didn't look enthused, no good emotions. This really dragged down the presentation for me. The key offender to this was Yamauchi. GT5 should be huge. The presentation of it was poor. Yamauchi looked like he was about to fall asleep, his translator had to use a pad of paper and pen to help keep track, the trailer was pretty bland, etc.
-Either GameSpot's microphones recording the conferences were unusually quiet for Microsoft and Nintendo to where you couldn't hear much applause compared to Sony, or Sony paid off people to purposely hype up the crowd. Not even kidding. People sounded to be in awe or surprised about announcements that just shouldn't have been that big. One of the biggest audience shakers was the Lilac-color PSP bundled with the new Hannah Montana game - wtf? This thing got more applause than the PSP Go. Something is terrible with priorities here.
-Montages are awful. Sony must have had like 15 montages in their event (I should really count sometime), and there was too many problems with them. None of them was in full screen I think, possibly the one for Home. I don't want to watch videos of games in a small screen with senseless 3D models of stuff around the video to "enhance" the presentation. There was a montage for EVERYTHING. They talked about Home, then showed a montage for it. What?? Why? Nothing was learned from it. It wasn't exciting. It took up time. The game montages were terrible. Many mediocre games were thrown in amongst the mix lessening the overall quality you feel from it. Most games - even new ones - then only get about 3-5 seconds of footage in a montage and that's it for the entire conference. Microsoft and Nintendo on the other hand - they announced the games people want to hear about, and they explain it. They don't just give you it's couple seconds in fame. Not to mention Sony didn't even have titles of what games were playing in the montages, and I couldn't always tell what game I just saw. I believe Nintendo had a montage, but it was after they already showcased each game individually. They also had all clips in full screen.
-I'm also pretty uneasy about the wand. Sony constantly touts itself for having sophisticated devices. You can tell that by just looking at any Sony device. Now the wand comes, with it's ridiculous glowing orb at the end of it. It looks like a child's toy. Tretton also said that he was glad that one didn't get leaked out. Guess what though, the wand was leaked out. Sorry, try again.
-Tretton is an awful speaker. Not saying everyone else is great, cause Microsoft doesn't have anyone that really stands out, and Cammie from Nintendo isn't that great (well, shes a good speaker, it's just that her image doesn't really match what gamers want, though it could be a good balance to go along with Reggie). Tretton is terrible at even reading his own lines. He's dull, and tries to crack corny jokes that never go over well. I miss when Kaz Hirai did almost the entire presentation. He is a great presenter.
I'm sure I could go on, but, is there a need to?
