Holy Retro batman, it just might work!

A stage based on the old fashioned Mario arcade game, hmm? Sounds interesting at the least. The real problem is, where would you die? Top only? sides? Or would you pop the bottom out too? The stages in this game were very self contained, so I can't help but wonder how you'd plan to modify them- because you WOULD have to modify them.

I made a quick stage of a revamped Big Blue stage. I did it real quick so sorry if it looks like its from a 6 year old haha. But my idea which I got from another post I made involves a much more sound Big Blue. If anything Big Blue will be about the size of Corneria and it will be a fixed camera to an extent....NO SCROLLING! And instead of having an floor too fall through and lose a life, there's the race track under it with fast and slow moving cars. You can fall through these cars ofcourse, but it's pretty much meant for recovery and u can fall on the cars but have to get off quickly and get back on Big Blue. It's not a totally diff. version but honestly if Big Blue was just bigger, and wasn't side scrolling it would be an awesome stage IMO for Brawl.

Or photobucket.com

Personally, I've found Photobucket a little easier to deal with.
^or that. i've actually never used image shack before, i just thought that it would be faster.

okay on with the topic. i might come up with a stage later.

But the high speed and scrolling is what made Big Blue fun. ;)

Ok, here is mine that I made in paint, and here is the post I made on the Nsider forms about it:

Well, I decided to go ahead and made a paper mario stage

(Made in paint, please be gentle about any ratings)

Ok, Let me explain:

This stage is what I call a "meet and greet" stage, similar to Animal Crossing. In the background characters from all three Paper Mario games will meet and interact, like Bombett, Boomer, and admiral Bombury, being the three bomb characters, may all meet, and then cause an explosion, but only in the background. You will also notice Wrecktail flying in the "sky" He does not attack, he is just adding to the stage

The stage is "blahh" mostly because there is not a ton I could do. However, you will notice a few things. First of all, on the top two block formations. These blocks are destroyed as easily as the ones in Mushroom Kingdom 2 (I think its Mushroom Kingdom 2). But, these blocks respawn 5 seconds after being destroyed, and rearrange every 10 seconds, if there not destroyed. By rearranged I mean they will appear in random patterns on the top of the field.

The tree is just a platform, the trunk does not block your passage along the field.

The final thing you will notice is the pipe, it is just like a normal pipe, except every 30 seconds or so, it will spawn random enemies from the paper Mario Series. These would include Amazee Dayzee, Clubba, and Fuzzy. These enemies wouldn't do much, low Hp, more just for show.

My Music
One of the main reason I want a paper Mario stage is just because of the amazing music in Super Paper Mario. Here are a few links
The Ultimate Show (just about the best video game music ever)
Count Bleck Battle
Castle Bleck
In the Darkness (not my favorite, but its good)
Dimentio Theme

Suggested by Zatchbellmerume:
Tubba Blubba
Doopliss battle

The Flat Zone II pretty much improves on everything from the first G&W stage. The stage is much larger and it's 3 levels of platforms are all longer and bigger. There are small cracks in the scaffolding that you can fall through that are similar to but smaller than the gaps in Mushroom Kingdon II in SSBM. The Scaffolding platform and the Tree branch platform don't move or disapear. The Black checkered platform slides up and down the board. For those wondering where each of the parts of the board comes from here goes: The bottom red platforms were taken from the DONKEY KONG multiscreen game. The clouds and black checkered platform comes from the CLIMBER game. The Helicopter comes from the PARACHUTE game. The black rain clouds comes from the RAINSHOWER game. And the middle tree platform comes from the DONKEY KONG JR. widescreen.

The board is also slightly interactive like the first Flat Zone.

The clouds in the top of the board sprinkle light rain drops that do small amounts of damage, but like in the original Flat Zone, they can be deflected onto other players.

Green Hill Zone

This is my rendition of the Green Hill Zone. It takes place over water, centered in the screen, so players can be killed off the left and right. In the center is the loop, where players if they keep running will go through the other side, but if they stop, will fall inside, and can continue to fight inside the loop. To the left is a tree which can be stood upon, and to the right is a platform which occasionally moves up and down. On the left and right of the loop are 2 spikes that give large amounts of damage. The loop can be stood upon, and is not a pass-through platform. Far in the top-left is another platform.

I created this stage using sprites. It is my first visual creation, although Iam currently trying to recreate Bowser's Castle, Luigi's Mansion, and other uniques stages.

The Happy Happyist Cult Ceremony Room - Earthbound (Mother 2)

This would be a crazy stage. You land in a huge room filled with cult members chanting and praying to their god, Mr. Carpainter. You can jump freely, but there are no platforms above. If you bump into a cult member, they'll swipe you with a purple paint brush for low to 0 damage. Every once in awhile, the cult members prayers will answer and Mr. Carpainter will appear in the back, and shoot forth lightning down on the players. It does slightly more damage, 0 Knockback. Its more of an annoyance.

You can hit players to the left and right to K.O. them and also up top, through the roof as well.

Easton Kingdom - From Super Mario Land 1.

The stage is setup like 'Battlefield'. The flat area is made up of floating rocks just like in the game. There are giant mountain sized Easter Island statues in the background. There are 2 moving platforms on the left and right side of the center rock formation which move up and down.

I like this idea but, where would the players fall or die, the walls and floor wouldn't let anyone die.

I was thinking that you could throw others against the walls. Eventually they would break apart and then all around you would be Happy Happy Village. Then you'd be able too. I think there might also be holes in the roof and sides so you could throw them out when they weren't weakened.

I dunno if this is saying much, but I just wanna have a level based on the 64 version of Hyrule, I loved that level... I think it'd be a fun one, and fair one, to play on.

Okay, here is what I'd consider to be my ideal stage:

It really doesn't relate to any game, although I'm sure I could apply it to just about anything.. Anyway, that's not what REALLY matters to me.

You can see by the size relativity of my little Kirby spot that this stage is really big, and has huge variation between the bottom and top.

None of the platforms move, and characters can easily get really spaced out from eachother. The idea would be to lure someone down, to either the left or right in order to finish them off by either smashing them towards the center piece causing them to fall, or by knocking them off the side.
The platform at the very top would be about the size of Final Destination.

Favourable Items: Pitfall, Mega Mushroom, Bumper
Unfavourable Items: Assist Trophy, Pokeball, Hammers

Favourable Characters: Yoshi, Sonic, Donkey Kong, Zelda
Unfavourable Characters: Pit, Ike, Snake

That's a HUGE stage. It kinda reminds me of playing on the Mushroom and hilltops in the Mario games. If anything, that's probably what the theme would be.

Excellent stage. And about your "favourables" and "unfavourables"... are you talking about what YOU like? Or what would work best in this stage? You're entitled to your opinion if these are your favorites/least favorites, I'm just kinda confused.

Y'know, that's what I was actually thinking about calling it. I actually had the right side of the main platform cut off like the left side, making it look just like one of those mushroom-like platforms.. But then I just changed it back, for some reason..

Having it slowly move up and down as people stood on it and got off of it could be a nice element too. Maybe I should re-edit it.

Favourable characters and items were thought of as in "Who'd be the best character for this stage?". Not very many people ask that question of course though, because you usually decide what character you're going to play as, and what items you'll have turned on prior to choosing a level.

I can extrapolate on why which are which if you'd like...

I loved Super Mario Land, there should be selectable music from that game. The main theme is better than the main mario theme imo. Maybe have a platfrom moving left and righ asbove the strage kinda high.

Yea, that middle platform is what kinda swaded me to believe it would be a good fit in the Mushroom Kingdom Universe.

Yea, ok I thought that's what that was there for. I've just never really seen someone make a note of that before in their create-a-stage.

And I do figure I know what most of your favourables and unfavourables are there for:

~ITEMS~
Pitfall- favourable for the same reason a Motion Sensor Mine would be favourable. People would lose track of them.
Mega Mushroom- favourable because it would give you a great movement advantage and there's room to actually play with an advantage and not be a "trapped-in-the-corner" punchingbag.
Bumper- I suppose this would be favourable because with it's new ability to hover in the air, you could trap opponents that fall through the cracks of the stage.

ATs/Pokemon- unfavourable because it would be easy to just avoid (or, actually ignore) their onslaught
Hammers- unfavourable because you can't climb so well with one in-hand and you could easily be escaped (much like acquiring a hammer on the lower-back side of the Great Fox)

~CHARACTERS~

... alright. Maybe you should explain your thoughts on the characters.

EDIT:
I assume Sonc would be favourable because of his high jumps and speed and Yoshi because of his great ability to control himself in the air, but other than that I think you've lost me.

Ok then..

Sonic- Because of his speed, he'd be able to reach far away items faster. His UpB is also top notch for a vertical level like this.

Yoshi- Also has an exceptional UpB, and there's ample room for his SideB

DK- It'd be really hard to escape him if you're in either of the corners with him.

Zelda- Her long-ranged teleportation would give her a big advantage, as well as her sideB fire attack.

Pit- While his flying abilities are helpful, his middle-ranged sword spinning attack would only be useful on the main platform, and his arrows would be extremely easy to dodge.

Ike- Due to the platforms, his Aether would'nt be very useful. I'm also just assuming he's not a very fast-moving character.

Snake- His Nikita has a lot to run into, and he doesn't jump very high.

This stage is my compromise between Hyrule Temple and New Pork City.
The layout is sort of them mixed together, and I sort of had mental images of Fourside and Saffron City in my head while I was making it.

I'm kind of hoping for a stage with platforms that rearrange into different configurations. The Norfair stage looks like it would be good for that, but I doubt it does (based upon footage, nothing seems to happen other than lava rising).

But anyway, I'm thinking a stage where smaller platforms are spread out like on there, and then they come together into a semi-big platform or two semi-big ones, and they can be in different arrangements on the screen. And then maybe arrange into a really big main platform.

In short, there would be some movement and activity, but basically it would just be different platform configurations, which wouldn't interfere too much, but would still keep it interesting...

Dyce's attempt at Casino Nights (Sonic2) :

The loop was a nice touch, but I found it to be more practical at the bottom. I also put a platform on it, so now there's a Smash Classic "3 Platform Mid-High-Mid" part to it.

But to make it different, there's one large platform underneath with the loop. You can wall jump off the sides, but only above the red lines (indicated in the picture). If you go under the red lines, you can enter the loop.

The small red/yellow box is one of those foot launchers that send you flying forward. If you walk into it or land on it, you shoot around the loop. Players can be attacked while running the loop, but cannot attack until they've passed the other side. Also, players on the loop who run into another opponent will hurt the opponent with medium knockback.

There's an unseen box behind the right wall of the loop. You cannot attack until you've passed the opposite box. When you hit the box, you end up in a running motion and can attack normally.

I tried, but couldn't find a way to fit flippers. :(

Bumpers work like big regular bumpers... only bigger!

This was done with Paint so bare with me.....I have an idea for....a Pikmin stage!

The Green mist at the bottom is supposed to be loads of Pikmin carrying the objects(I'm not good at drawing them).

Then everything else is self-explanatory, I think.

What do you think? Of the idea...not the actual picture.

i had a idea which comes near to yours, just in windwaker style and one platform which is always there.
i wanted to draw the ship of phantom hourglass(i didnt play it yet) and some map hazards coming from the left, for example this big thing^^ (sry i dont know the english name for it, but i think its an octupus)

see my beatiful paint skills :D

EDIT: hm i just saw theres a thread with the same idea...well :/

Great job you guys! I love your stages!

@Sabrefulf238: Brilliant idea with fighting on the stuff the Pikmin carry.

@Herr_Vorragend: Sorry but... the PH stage seems a bit too small. Like "smaller than G&W" small. Maybe if it sailed past some stuff that you could fight on?

@TheKruskinator: That's the perfect stage for Geno/Mallow.

Here's my idea for a board.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Mobius: Emerald Hill Zone

1. You can walk inside here and walk on the waterfall, but it's slippery.
2. You can stand on top of the trees. If you smash them, they shake and coconuts will fall, causing 10% damage to the victim.
3. Every 20 seconds, spikes appear here and inflict 20% damage to whoever touches it.
Edit: You're right I should have added a way to get up there, and I did.
4. A Vertically moving platform.

that is a cool sonic stage! plus great idea with the spikes!! that will stop that annoying sonic!!!

also i think for the Mario Bros stage you shouldn't be able to warp thru the pipes, instead if you walk off into the sides you appear on the other side! huh, just like in the game!!! however if you get smashed to the side your dead! also the normal enemies should spawn from the top pipes along with the fireballs appearing randomly on the stage. except the koopa's and stuff wont appear as much, maybe every 30 secs. also you should be able to hit the platform from underneath by jumping causing the platform overneath to bend like in the game and whoever is on top of it will get flipped over and remain paralyzed for 2 secs!! and yes the pow buttom should be here but instead of sending people flying as it did in ssb64 it will just simply flip everyone who is grounded over and keeping them paralyzed for 4 secs!!

Wow!

Oh my gosh. I just thought of an amazing stage that would be PERFECT for brawl! I really hope this is in there!

A super paper mario stage! That turns from 2d to 3d! I kind of rushed it so you may or may not like it...but check it out!

2d version:

The stage starts out 2d. There is one big main platform in the middle, and a little one in the top right. Goombas, turtles, and other koopas come into the level from the right, and some of them appear on the top right platform and drop down to the lower platform. They pretty much just walk by, but if they touch you they can hurt you and if you have high enough percent you can get knocked off the stage.

3d version:

After awhile, the stage turns around into a 3d stage. The big lower platform changes into 2 small ones and the top right platform turns into a bigger top one. In the 3d stage, the koopas still drop off of the top platform, but the ones that came from the right in the 2d part, they now come forward/towards you.

I know its not the best level design but I bet some kind of super paper mario 2d to 3d stage should be made.

Anyway, What do you think?

Hey, that is REALLY cool. Would the stage stay in one spot? Or is there constant (but slow) forward motion? It would be cool to have different 2D-3D set ups as opposed to the one basic thing you showed.

I'm not saying it isn't awesome already (don't think that at all), but there is definitely room to make it even better.
