I can't believe the Smash Ballot is still open for another like 6 weeks. Surely everyone has voted by now.

Also in term of a Direct... I honestly don't know when we'll get one. Nintendo might still be in recovery mode with a new CEO on it's way.

I don't care at the moment. I have 5 games on the go right now and I haven't even started Xenoblade.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Shantae is way more popular than most of those characters. I don't recognize at least half of those characters myself.

I don't think it "means" anything, but I do think her potential presence in Smash wouldn't effect her presence in this game.

There really SHOULD be a Wayforward rep. I wonder if there is any bad blood between them and Yacht Club Games (the people that made Shovel Knight) since YCGs is comprised of former Wayforwarders. Never looked into the relationship between the two.

Obscure no-shot character with a massive backing that appeared out of nowhere. At least with Shantae, we can pinpoint it back to the Wayforward guy being one of the first developers to beg for ballot votes.

There's no "If you're in Smash, you can't be a guest in ANY other game!" rule, and I don't even know what even caused this belief. Is it because of Raiden in PS All-Stars? Because I'm pretty sure that was done for advertising purposes and not because Snake's presence in Brawl caused him to be off limits for any other similar appearance.

Like does, this really sound like a scenario that would actually happen?
"Hey, we're putting a bunch of indy game characters in this game and we'd like to use Shantae. Can we?"
"No, sorry, she's gonna be in Smash so she cannot be in Runbow."
"Ohhhh, well, it's okay, and we understand. Congrats, by the way!"

I haven't voted! Just um...Haven't gotten around to it. Plus you know, I think the Pre ballot has been finished and the character I'm going to suggest (9-volt) has no chance as DLC... so it doesn't really matter anyway.

It's not really that big of a stretch.

Both are third party.
Both are obscure.
Both lack appeal to certain groups of gamers (Shantae to the Japanese, Geno to casuals)
Both have a following that pretty much appeared overnight.
Both have (or had, in Geno's case) their chances highly overrated (Shantae is viewed by many as a frontrunner for SSB4 DLC, and Geno was viewed by some as such a lock for Brawl that they made up conspiracy theories after the game came out and he wasn't in it, like that he was cut last minute and the random button on the CSS was originally his spot).

Shovel Knight, tho.

Most communities I've been to, Shantae has a much larger following. She's definitely more comparable to Geno.

Someone looking to be first but I feel like Quote has any footing due to his games being known both in the west and Japan. Even then I don't think we'll get any indie rep any time soon.

There isn't one that has transcended in mainstream light as much to get noticed by casuals and be welcomed worldwide. Remember Japan isn't like us. They straight thrashed on becuase he had a bigger following in the west and the west can have that same reaction to &

Shantae is an even more extreme version of Little Mac.

Even though Little Mac's popularity in the West far outweighed his popularity in the East, he at least still had some support over there, even if it was minuscule. Shantae is a virtual unknown. Her support is 100% Western. She has no appeal in Japan.

We've had characters like Marth, Roy, and Lucas who were basically unknown to gamers outside of Japan other than those who know their stuff (Moreso in the case of Marth and Roy). We've never had one who is a complete unknown to the Japanese.
