Sakurai has already stated recently that he may not work on the next Smash Bros. And considering Iwata was the one who got him on board for both Brawl and Smash 4...

It's not really comparable.

At this point, all characters who aren't already playable that got costume DLC have remained that way. Link is the only playable character who had a costume as DLC. Furthermore, none of the characters released as DLC have gotten Mii costumes.

We don't know how it effects their chances.

Here we have people saying about how King K. Rool has no more chances due to the costume. When the fake Meta Knight picture came up(before Meta Knight was actually confirmed) there were people who were going that Meta Knight was cut and so and so. Now, it's up to you whether you want to call them idiots or what not then, but it's still a case of people overreacting.

Looking at the current DLC costumes, a good majority of them are characters who people practically expected not to be DLC playable:

Mega Man X(in Mega Man's Final Smash)
Dunban(in Shulk's Final Smash)
Proto Man
Isabelle(Assist Trophy)
Mega Man.EXE(in Mega Man's Final Smash)
Zero
Akira
Jacky
Heihachi
K.K. Slider(appears in the Smashville Stage)
Chrom(in Robin's Final Smash)

Now let's look at the ones people want to be playable:
Inkling
King K. Rool

Only 2. And one of them is one that people have thought the possibility of being Post-Ballot DLC(including you, back in the Leaks Group). And yet already we are saying that because those 2 are DLC costumes that it means they are never going to be playable, when all the other costumes are characters people practically expected not to be DLC.
This shows how much we know very little of how much the costumes mean for the character. As You said, we don't know if such costumes affect chances and what not, but here we are practically going over the top about how these costumes mean they can't be playable, despite the fact that the developers have teased us with and made fun of similar issues, both with the Meta Knight costume and Meta Knight and with Koopaling Roy and Fire Emblem Roy. And we ALL know how much the Roy argument was used back then and how much it got invalidated with FE Roy's appearance.

Basically, it's too early to tell if the costumes mean anything. So let's just wait until after the Ballot is over and the Ballot DLC starts coming up.

Regardless of it being likely Sakurai will retire from the series after this, it doesn't change my statement that having a new director doesn't magically mean everything that people don't like about decisions he and/or the rest of the development team made will be nonexistent.

I don't think K Rool is officially disconfirmed to be honest. I mean, the costume isn't good news, but at least there is acknowledgement. I still think we should wait and see.

Still leaning towards "yes, he's disconfirmed" but sometimes good things just happens out of nowhere.

This is the problem I have with the fandom. People gets really upset if their character doesn't get in and then behave like this.

I can't recall the time where I demand a new director or call this whole thing "gross" when Mewtwo was cut from Brawl, when Mega Man was disconfirmed for Brawl, when Ridley confirmed as boss for both games, etc.

There is a difference between being really disappointed and then saying stuff like this.

I think it's really silly to even wish for that when both K Rool and Isaac are inactive characters. Yes, it'd suck for them to not get in the roster, but it's not that big of a deal.

I don't think the creator of their own series should be booted out of continuing the series just because they didn't satisfy some fans on DLC character picks.

he's always on the top 5 from various polls. king k rool from what i've seen is number 1. how does a number 1 demanded character go to a mii costume? thats a slap to the face to the fans of the character, just like he did with ridley back then. of course this doesn't mean it outright deconfirms him, but now i'm less optimistic about it. i'll have to wait and see.

I'm getting flashbacks to when Ridley was teased as a boss on Pyrosphere..... What seems to be an outright de-confirmation of a particularly popular character out of nowhere, basement-dwelling losers who have no lives start licking the tears, the fan-base splits on whether or not it is a de-confirmation, people attack each other over arguments, several conspiracy theories are thrown around carelessly ("K. Rool will use another design!" "Sakurai will surprise us like he did with Meta Knight!" "This is a callback to K. Rool using multiple costumes, he'll still be fully playable!"), and more-than-likely it will all end in severe disappointment. Either way, I'm not making the same mistake twice like I did with Ridley.

I just don't care anymore. Whether or not K. Rool transitions from a Mii Costume to a full-fledged fighter, I. Just. Don't. Care. I'm sick and tired of getting my hopes up and especially sick and tired of all these arguments constantly wasting hours of people's lives. People are starting to break their bodies down because they're too emotionally invested over a video-game character, and it isn't healthy. At all.

Damn... at least I still have Dixie, but otherwise I just need to express my disappointment, that's all; let it out of my system. I don't care to argue right now, I just want to relieve myself of this burden. If you believe K. Rool still has a chance, I respect that opinion and admire your optimism. I just don't want to relive the Ridley experience all over again, so I'll set my expectations exceedingly low and leave it at that.

If I can be more level-headed... can Mii Costumes ultimately mean nothing to DLC newcomers (as opposed to established veterans)? I just don't know, there is no precedence for this, and even if there were, Sakurai tends to break precedence anyways. I'll just have to wait and see, but right now, it's just a roller-coaster ride of bumps and bruises. The cynical realist in me expects nothing less but an unsatisfying conclusion to this all.

It's not K. Rool as a costume that's the worst, it's the K. Rool supporters' reactions. It's downright frustrating and depressing.

I always say that Smash would have a better chance being worst under someone else than Sakurai. Because atleast he'll make a 7-8/10 game than make a 5/0 game with even worst decisions and people start begging for Sakurai to come back and he just laughs and say "I'm not in charge anymore"

funny only 3 character (4 if you count dark pits bow blades as swords) were sword users and only 1 (shulk) was from a niche rpg

Yeah, like @ FinalStarmen I'm kinda getting Ridley and Pyrospere flashbacks based on some of the posts I've read....

Whatever happens, happens I guess.... If K. Rool makes it in after all, great! If not, oh well..... He's not my most wanted character but I'd certainly be delighted to see him in as a full fledged playable character as I still support him.
