The only thing that's missing from their kit, imo, is the ability to swap out in reverse order. Squirtle seems built to build damage and Zard is the KO machine, but you've still got to swap to Ivy in between.
From what I saw, Ivysaur was the KO machine and Charizard the revovery machnie or the machine you're forced to play after KO but then switch out from.

I guess. But like it's pretty instant as it is, and like you can go from Zard > Squirtle.
And also maybe Ivysaur won't be as bad this time around to be swapped over?

Like come on Buh does their best. They try hard

Maybe a Taunt Button and Shield could've worked well. That way Taunts are there, but this is an extra command. We already learned Inklings have unique moves that aren't the regular set of "everybody has these" moves. Ryu already had his own unique commands based upon his home series. Seems like it would work well.

I like the new switching system but now that stamina isn't an issue, I can legitimately play Squirtle. Even if switching has competitive merit, I'm gonna go full turtle.

You could cycle through based upon the buttons too. D-Pad Left and D-Pad Right only. This way, it's kept streamlined and simple. It'll go to the next in whatever order it is. Left goes back, Right goes forward in the cycle.

I like the way you think.

Now it’s time to pass the f out.

I mean I don't know. It could work.
On the other hand I am also a fan of keeping things simple. And like while just Down-B isn't perfect, I do think it's easier to utilize one command than revamping the taunts system, even if the former is a tad roundabout.
That's just my thoughts on the matter though.

Charizard buff & nerf are so weird, I really wonder what is the direction they are going with him, but I hope somewhat that Sakurai and his team will find a way to balance Charizard without making him too slow or too powerful.

Squirtle seem pretty good right now too, and Ivysaur seem to be decent this time around. It's really the big orange dragon I am worried about.

Maybe doing Block+B like Inkling would be the best option then.

Only because Charizard is back to only 3 specials of his own. At least switching is fast as hell now.

Really the biggest nerf I'd say Charizard had was losing Rock Smash. Apart from that it's just been tuning here and there.
I'm assuming though due to the game being faster and more mobile he'll stand more of a chance.

Having only 3 specials didn't hinder Sheik in Melee. Maybe it won't be an issue this time around
Correction.
2 good Specials and 1 really bad one.
Thank God Chain died.

It's less that Ivy won't be any good (I don't get that impression at all), it's that the switching combos are intentionally limited by the set changing order. You can't do a Squritle to Zard setup because you have to step over Ivy to get there. Or, since Squirtle is the lightest character, you'll probably get knocked the furthest with him. You might want to quickly get over to Zard for better recovery, but again, you have to step over Ivy to do it.

without its weakness to fire, it's at least guaranteed to be a lot better.

Can you imagine if Ivysaur was still weak to fire? I never really thought about is before, but fire is so common in Smash, even characters who shouldn't have it, have it.

Well that's exactly the reason why Type Effectiveness is a horrible gimmick, it's absolutely useless. No one (outside Pokemon Trainer) has grass moves, and the only water move you get is Fludd. It's barely a footnote for 2 out of the 3 Pokemon, and all it did was hinder an already large obstacle of a character, especially since a lot of fire moves also so happened to be Smash attacks and overall high damage/knockback moves.

The most you could ever get out of it was Trainer dittos, and good luck finding someone else who actually played the character.

As a Pokemon Trainer main...

Squirtle is for when you want to build up damage.
Ivysaur is when you want to KO your opponent.
Charizard is for when you're in danger of being KOed.

Their kit makes sense, but remember, Ivysaur is the KO machine. Those bulb attacks are killer.

Back in Brawl I was just an Ivysaur Main, but this time around I might think about incorporating all 3 rather than sticking with just Ivysaur.

Now that switching is no longer a pain, I'll actually be willing to use the other two Pokemon.

Ivysaur isn't the only former character I'm getting back, because I also played some Young Link back in Melee.

I believe that this brings my total characters played up to 27, and that's not accounting for the possibility that l'll also pick up more in Ultimate. I've been eying Pichu and Inkling as of recent.

There were more than several occasions of me playing Pokemon Trainer just to play Ivysaur, or one of the others. If I died and got switched to the next Pokemon in line, I'd frequently try to switch back whichever one I was previously playing as quickly and safely as possible. Didn't care too much about the stamina effects either.

I did sometimes incorporate all three when playing a match, but not as much as trying to play one at a time. Ivysaur the most because it was my favorite of the bunch.

I'm overjoyed that they're all back, but I'm also feeling conflicted about the fact that they're grouped together via a transformation mechanic again.

I went to a bar I actually kind of liked. They had "Poutine Corndogs" which were pretty good.

For some reason a lot of really cute Asian girls go there. I'm not sure the relevancy but it was an observation.

Oh, hey, we have stock icons for Ultimate now. Nice.

Going to take a little getting used to their style, but it's nice and clean. :ultrobin:
