So, everyone... I wanted to get your opinions on something.

As we all know, Nintendo did not necessarily talk about ALL their games they have planned to release. And as we all also know, games like Kirby, Pokemon, and Smash Bros. were not talked about during the presentation. So theoretically, they would save these games for E3 in order to hype up the fan-base, which somewhat makes sense (although the Switch will be 3 months old by then and its uncertain how it will fair by that time).

I was thinking about possibly getting the switch depending on what gets announced before E3 (since I am almost positive that they will alert us to new games and then talk about them during E3) or what actually happens after E3 is complete. Since it seems likely that Kirby, Pokemon, and Smash Bros. would get announced, there would be an incentive for me to get the Switch since its roster of games will increase and I'll actually have some games to enjoy on the system. However, since my birthday is literally the day before E3, I am uncertain on what I should do.

Should I get the Switch on my birthday, or wait until E3 is done before I get it? For the latter option, it would depend on the roster of games presented.

I say wait until E3 is done, just in case.

This line in particular conveys a lot of what I feel personally. I have a lot things that may sell me on a system that may not be the typical mainstream stuff. The fact that I can stuff like get Persona, Nier and Odin Sphere HD is what sold me on a PS4. Niche games for sure but that's what sells to me.

It's really important to remember that the fact we're even discussing this on a online forum makes us a part of a small, savvy minority of consumers. We're not the ones the make the console sales around in the end of the day. The Johnny Donuts of the world are who buys the machines in droves, not the MF Viewtifuls.

Methinks there might be a new, non-port Smash for Holiday 2018 though. If Sakurai's team already completed the porting stuff then that's very plausible.

That would also mean we would see the first trailer at this year's E3.

Believe it or not I don't hate Fire Emblem. I'm a fan of the series in general and the GBA ones are among my favorites.

What I do hate is how Intelligent Systems completely ignores one of my favorite Nintendo series (that being AW of course) just so they can focus on pumping out more FE. It's frustrating as all hell for AW fans like myself especially since we haven't gotten a game since almost a decade ago. And Metroid fans think they have it bad.

I'd love to see a new FE but not until IS shows AW the love it deserves.

That said, the average consumer is a hard beat to predict.

Does the Switch appeal to them?

I mean the Nintendo stream had a bunch of likes and views (almost two million in a night), then it got replaced.

Point is, the games and presentation shows seem positively received barring some small dips in Arms and a big one in 1,2 Switch (not that I blame them for that one).

Even if this doesn't excite the hardcore crowd as much as it could. Did it reach the average consumer?

I agree, Validar is such an odd-one out in the Awakening cast with stuff that's never explained(like why he looks like a demi-human? His devilish appearence is never even addressed) and is the only main antagonist who's not playable(probably because Robin HAD to be able to marry everyone and, well, you know...).
Personally, I feel like if they go the class route, we'll get most of them but otherwise I feel like Nergal is the most likely without counting Awakening and Fates.
Though I wouldn't mind Iago, because, despite him being a terrible character, he's still pretty enjoyable with some of his lines, also thanks to his VA(and he's got a pretty cool design too)

Yeah, in FE villian sorcerers fall into seemingly two categories: Either evil sorcceror guy who's character is just evil or bishonen guy with complex motivation and backstory.

Nergal may fall into the first category, but his insanity was at least explained. So unlike other characters of the former category, he's not a pawned used by a greater being, he's just gone insane. Which is why he's definitely my prefferef choice.

Validar is one of those characters you'd think would be explained, but isn't. He had way more potential than any of the other cookie cutter sorcerer villians. But instead we literally know nothing about him other than the bare minimum. We don't know what his reasoning for serving Grima is and his relationship with Robin is so nonexistant that the father twist mine as well not even be there.

Though Iago and Validar to me would be passable as choices, there's just much cooler options. Unless they have classes like you said, that'd avoid this problem, considering that the seeies has a lot of character theming that can pass as classes.

Well, I more or less just skimmed through the presentation. Surprisingly enough... I don't feel much different then when I came in. Pretty good stuff, but not enough to really change my opinion on the Switch. It's alright, but not that great. Odyssey though... I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hyped for that.

... Well, I definitely did get some things right here. Mobile game connections, region locking, New IP, nothing regarding Smash, new Direct date... wait, hold on a sec.

It's very complicated actually. Basically it boils down to two things.

1. AW's bad luck in Japan (the delay with AW1, Dual Strike's terrible marketing there, and IS not having the confidence to release Days of Ruin there til 5 years later)
2. FE exploding in popularity with Awakening

What's even more egregious is that back in the day AW would always outsell FE in the West and was the reason that FE even got outside Japan in the first place and yet FE was the series that got all the love in Smash and whatnot. I don't even know if Sakurai even bothered considering the series for a playable character before.

Quite frankly, I'm sure the Switch will do just ok. At least well enough to last a few years. I'm no investor or analyst. I don't make money trying to guess the success of these things. Just going to play and enjoy the games I love. It's more fun than trying to be an armchair bussiness man or the next Micheal Patcher. Video games are cool. You all should play them.

honestly am I the only one disappointed about the switch's launch line up? Zelda really doesn't appeal to me much, I'm not willing to buy figures for Skylanders, and 1 2 Switch isn't worth $50 imo. I've never been interested in Bomberman as well. Very unsatisfied about this :^(

I honestly am not sure if there's a single person on the planet that isn't disappointed about the launch lineup.

Every moment after that presentation has been a nonstop wall of disappointment from start to finish from nearly every person who talks about it. Nintendo is going to die as a company and they destroyed themselves.

Cynicism =/= Realism. That's something many people don't realize.

A weak launch won't kill the Switch. Now, if sales don't pick up by the holidays, I'd say there's a bit more cause for concern, but for now I don't see it as too big of an issue.

On pessimism: It's easy to find negativity online, especially post a big event like the Switch presentation. That being said, no amount of that should take away any genuine love you may have for particular game/character/piece of media/whatever.

That's true, which is why it sucks that only Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart and to a lesser extent Splatoon are likely to move many units for the Switch at the moment. I WANT games for the less "savvy" of us to get into. Especially those of third party companies. I'm usually pretty late when it comes to getting consoles as it is, so but the time I'm bound to actually get one, games will be released for it.

Still, I say if they can somehow get a Pokemon game to come out within the first year, they will probably be fine. Retro's title might be able to do more of the same. As of right now, I think things will be slightly better than the Wii-U, given that I can actually count interesting games on more than one hand for the first year. Launch month seems pretty terrible aside from Zelda and Bomberman. The latter of which not many care about enough to buy a system for. But aside from 2K18 and Fifa, I can't think of many "average consumer" games that'll come to the system that aren't ports like Skyrim and Minecraft.

Paying for online is still ****ing stupid. Espeically since Nintendo's online is known for being sub-par compared to the rest.

I think I'm set for right now when it comes to the Switch.

Really hoping they've got more bombshells for later because as a first year? It's not so great.

Don't want to turn this in to FE VS AW so i'll just post what I wrote before.

Yeah I get that but people are still missing the fact that Fates is still a very recent game and that FE has two non-main series games that would benefit from not having to compete with a main series game.

AW on the other hand could hugely benefit from being revived in the Switch's 1st year with it's local multiplayer emphasis and that could launch it to the same heights FE's in right now.

This just infuriates me. Sorry if i'm being a downer to people that want a new game and all that but still.
