Honestly I'm surprised he didn't wait until tomorrow to post this though, considering the Splatoon maintenance hasn't happened yet and he still a tiny chance of a Splatoon Micro Direct popping up during the maintenance.

As of right now everything is still iffy. And I mean, if you see Roger suddenly taking that tweet down that means someone gave him crap for revealing that info.

I just caught up on what people have said the past few hours and, no offense but there are so many posts that are people like... flat out not reading what people have said and claiming things on here. I'm not calling out names but good lord, the amount of clearly not actually reading any of the tweets and flat out making up stuff people thought others said so far today seems record-breaking. Please actually look stuff up or actually fully read other people's posts before you start spewing out counter-arguments. Some of the stuff from today has been really painful and I actually ended up skipping a two pages because there was so much of it.

Roger confirmed what he knew which was a Splatoon Direct with a "smashing" announcement at the end and that he was disappointed in how some people were handling the info. He also doesn't seem to be as sure of it anymore but his source apparently has a good track record with these things.

Oh... that is true. We only found out about the Splatoon update a few days ago, but Roger said he had info about something like what two+ weeks ago by now? I actually have a really bad concept of time but it's definitely been way longer that we've had the "leak" than we've had info about the Splatoon update.

This whole rumor has been so silly. Yeah, Roger is perhaps preparing for the worst, but at the same time he's also allowing people to forget about this rumor and drop their guard. Again, it's well played by him. He's trying to allow us to be more surprised if something happens than we would've been before, but also less surprised or disappointed if nothing happens. Whatever happens, Roger wont look as bad as he might've. He's played this whole thing fairly tactfully and kept himself separated from getting in too deep. Stealth on the other hand has really dug himself a hole. Roger himself has implied that Stealth's antics are an annoyance and that they might've been misleading. Sure looks like positioning by him, but it's also better for us to see some doubt. Makes it feel more like he's on our side and that there might yet be something here to surprise us. He's really setting himself up to look "clean" whatever happens.

Basically, we only really have an expectation of maybe something happening soon. It's all we really had. It's something we could've figured we'd get all on our own, it's just that a few people told us we should really expect it. Now things seem less certain what with source doubts and the vagueness of this rumor to begin with, which is fine by me. This energy of simply not knowing anything for sure is the proper environment for surprise news to crop up.

Although, there's still lots of people out there that are pretty certain of what's going to happen due to Stealth's clues and implications. I hope for the sake of these people and the community in general, there is still something surprising on the horizon. If nothing else, Roger's news lately is allowing us to let our guards down some but at the same time he's seemed to imply that Stealth may have been onto something. The source is now in doubt however. Yeah, it's still pretty messy.

I do like Christmas and New Years Day but I love Thanksgiving so much. The parades, the food, spending time with the family and some friends, watching handegg and seeing my family loose their **** over shopping

That's what I thought, It's something to consider as a splatoon direct would have to be focused on this update if it's real. So I'd take that into consideration before truly shooting down the rumor.

Edit: I kinda get that he didn't want to publicly talk about what it was previously which is why he might have not called people out on it sooner, but bringing this up now when his reputation is a little shaky does seem like he's trying to deflect the hate elsewhere.

To be fair, a Splatoon update wasn't that hard to guess. We were running out of things from the previous datamined patch, so one could very well make the assumption that another big patch would be coming soon, especially since Splatoon's content updates are scheduled in such a way.

tl;dr: They were running out of stuff from the last patch, new patch would have to come to add more.

Still a good point, but there's also the factor of he's the one who told other people, so everything boils down to him. Stealth and other people hyping it up is really on him because he told people something he was supposed to be keeping a secret and they started blowing it up and teasing people that they knew. This is a relatively smart move on his part, but in all fairness he should be willing to accept most of the blame for it because he told others but then tweeted like "I can't say anything about it". He really brought it on himself by doing that. Honestly, if nothing happens and his rep is tarnished, I won't really feel bad for him.
In fact, part of me is wondering if he'll out his source if the 23rd comes around and nothing happens.

I totally agree about trying to let it die down in case it is fake though. It's better to kill the hype earlier on.
