I would love if Hyrule Warriors had all sort of hidden characters in it as the Zelda franchise only has so many characters that would make sense in a Samurai Warrior style fighter. Might as well throw Takamaru in their; even Pit would make SOME sense.

Takamaru seems like a great unlockable candidate. Not big or well known enough to cause hype, but popular and cool enough to make unlocking him feel satisfying.

The more I think about Takamaru being unlockable, the more I think Mac is likelier to be the starter classic character in the roster.
I hope he's secret can you imagine unlocking him totally randomly.
On accident.
I don't know about you guys but my excitement would blast the roof off my house.

The way you had described at sums up how I've reacted to Mewtwo in Melee. Though, I don't know if the later will be in Wii U/3DS. But, this should be about Takamaru, not Mewtwo.

BTW, anyone know who drew that Takamaru picture in Nintendoland?

And now it's time for yet another Tinfoil Hat Time with Fatmanonice, sponsored by Reynolds Wrap:

The W101 reveal the other day had me thinking, does it seem weird to anyone else how last year Kamiya mentioned the two Nintendo franchises he was interested in working on were Star Fox and Nazo No Murasame-Jo? Star Fox is understandable because fans haven't shut up about it since 2005 but Nazo No Murasame-Jo seemed to come out of nowhere. Now with it being confirmed that Kamiya was technically involved with the development of SSB4, do you think there might be some sort of connection there, as in his interest for Nazo No Murasame-Jo came from the Smash Bros project?

This is awesome. Definitely boosts his chances!

Apparently, Pit, Samus, and Takamaru are rumored to be secret special characters within Hyrule Warriors.

Whoa? Did I missed something about Kamiya being involved with the development of SSB4? or is it just assumption based on Wonderful 101 trophies?

Sakurai was caught sneaking near Platinum Games a few years ago and he possibly could have needed Kamiya's permission to use the Wonderful 101 characters as trophies. It basically adds up if you ask me.

The rumor stated a fall release, which means it's not that likely thanks to the official statement of a summer release.

Well, I didn't realize that. Although I still see it happening. Perhaps the people are merely progressing faster than expected?

IMO, a few W101 trophies isn't enough to justify Sakurai "sneaking around" Platinum Games. Could Bayonetta be a real possibility?

I know this is unrelated to Takamaru... but out of boredom, I downloaded Ninja JaJaMaru-kun from Wii Shop Channel yesterday. It is a Japan-only NES game by Jaleco in 1985. The protagonist is a cute ninja who kinda resembles the generic ninjas in Nintendo Land and he throws shurikens at enemies. Surprisingly, the action is fast and the controls feel good... I actually like it... it is now one of my favorite simple arcade games along with Pac-Man and Balloon Fight.

I wouldn't mind if the layout in Takamaru's stage somewhat resembles Ninja JajaMaru-kun... this is just an example:

Characters cannot jump nor drop past platforms. But characters could break through bricks by jumping or attacking... they regenerate like the bricks in Mushroom Kingdom in Melee... and stage hazards could be ninjas from Nazo no Murasame Jo running and jumping all over the four floors... and the ninjas deal damage by throwing shurikens...

I really wouldn't mind this since exploring the entire castle would be even better than fighting on the balcony. Having even more homages like the oriental blinds, tanooki statues, and death traps would make you feel right at home. Having the ninjas equally as cutesy would be a major plus. :awesome:

That's what i was just thinking, too! Takamaru actually goes inside Japanese castles in his game... so it would be pretty cool to see his stage be somewhat like the Luigi's Mansion stage in Brawl where we see the interior of the castle and its four floors when characters are inside... but we still get to see the beautiful Japanese forests and lakes that we see in Takamaru's game in the background. I was also thinking that the top floor could be the roof of the castle... and the third floor could be the balcony!

Finally tracked down this character, been wondering why I've seen this samurai guy on so many lists. Doesn't really excite me.

Sakurai visited Platinum as someone beat me to, but also later Kamiya apologized for missing an important e-mail too.

He's just some dude with a...damnit!

Seriously though, he's just a samurai and not many fans know who he is. He'd be an odd choice, not that Sakurai's afraid of those.

Just a samurai? Honestly, that's enough to get me half-way interested right there, but different strokes for different folks, I guess XD

Ice Climbers are just pint sized Eskimos. Game & Watch is just a black sprite. Miss Fit is just a living mannequin. I guess all choices should be considered boring for just their designs alone.

The thing about Takamaru is that, while he uses a sword, he actually relies primarily on projectiles and only uses his sword when his opponents get too close. Not only that, but Japanese swordplay is an entirely different fighting style than European swordplay, and we only have European-styled swordmen right now.

And people not knowing who he is is actually a plus. The entire point of adding a retro is to introduce a new series to a bunch of people and possibly revive the franchise. Since Samurai have a ton of marketability, his inclusion should peak some people's interest in the series.

I learned about him from Brawl. Then I watched an entire playthrough of his game. He's one of the main retro characters I'm rooting for. Series needs more love. And this song should be in the game, or maybe a revamped version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTobSuXqiVQ

I like the time running out part towards the end.

Ever played the game? If not, I'd definitely recommend it.

Not yet, unfortunately. I'm hoping for a US virtual console release one day. The game looks both fun and challenging.
Well, good news. An Australian rating company recently rated "The Mysterious Murasame Castle" for release on the EShop.

Take that as you will.

That really makes me wonder... I've seen the Australian rating company rate other games, like Renegade (which was actually rated around the same time as Murasame Castle) which got released on the eShop shortly after. But it seems like Nintendo is purposefully holding The Mysterious Murasame Castle back. I don't really understand, assuming Takamaru isn't in the new Smash, what could be making them not release it for long after it's already been rated and given an official translated name?

A year since the game was rated and we haven't seen anything on it. Probably Nintendo is "too slow" as :4sonic: would put it.

I think I've said this before, but if it were my decision then I'd link an international release of Nazo no Murasame Jo with Takamaru's inclusion in SSB4. I'm sure secret characters will be getting hidden pages on the official website after the 3DS game is released. "Want to know more about Takamaru? Visit the eShop page for The Mysterious Murasame Castle!" It would be a great way to introduce the West to the character's history.

I'm not wholly optimistic about the final roster for this game so, I'm just going to go ahead and ask, if Takamaru doesn't make it in, are you all still going to push for a Nazo no Murasame-Jo revival?

What Keybladeguy said. If he doesn't make it in Smash like Mac in Brawl, we can still push for a revival that would lead to his inclusion in the next round. What I mean by the next round is that we MAY see more Smash games in the future with or without Sakurai in charge.

It's good to see at least Japan has some optimism of having their own japan-exclusive rep; from what I've been reading lately

Here's a bump, on behalf of Sable and Donbe/Hikari fans
