if you want to add 10 more stages to smash what stages will you add?
Here is my Top 10:
1. Puyo Puyo Tetris (two franchises in one stage)
2. Clock Tower (from Marvel vs. Capcom 2)
3. Gamindustri Journey (a typical travelling srage)
4. Arkanoid
5. A stage based on Octopath Traveler
6. A stage based on Mario vs. Donkey Kong
7. A stage from Tokyo Mirage Sessions
8. Mt. Celeste
9. That MGS2 stage from DreamMix TV
10. A stage based on Pokémon Cafe Mix

I'm still not sure tbqh

Supposedly according to insiders, Everyone is Here barely happened for Ultimate due to talks with at least one character supposedly being tough. ~cough~ Cloud

And that wouldn't factor in costs and the like either. Being DLC probably helped a lot in terms of negotiation for a couple characters due to companies getting a bigger stake in the profit that way.
During the DLC cycle, it came out that Hero was negotiated for during the base game period but implemented for DLC instead because of how the Dragon Quest music licensing worked. Basically the cost was dependent on the price of the product being sold, so it would've cost exponentially more to include it in a sixty dollar game as opposed to a six dollar DLC pack.

These types of things are why I've been skeptical at best at the idea of an enhanced port of Ultimate happening. The point of such a port would be to save on development costs, and that doesn't help when you'd still need to spend an arm and a leg relicensing everything, and likely for a higher price. Pretty much the only counter people have to this is that they "could have negotiated long term during Ultimate," but there's literally nothing supporting that notion, and pretty much everything going against it (Sakurai usually not keeping sequels in mind during development, alongside him saying several times that EiH is a one time thing).

My big skepticism about a Deluxe port has always been that I think its very likely that the next system will be backwards compatible, making it unlikely that Nintendo will ask players to pay $70 for a game they can largely already play on their Switch 2. Ports of WIi U titles made at least some sense given the different media formats and how much that system undersold, but given the NSW's popularity, I think such games all being compatible with next console (with maybe some bells and whistles visual wise) is what we're getting.

Arkanoid stage is based
having Doh from Arkanoid as a boss would be pretty cool in smash

Honestly I just wouldn't want a port cause well.....I think at this point I've had my fill of Ultimate. I'd want to see something new, with a lot of opportunities for new content and new experiences and all, and getting the Same Game with like 3 new characters tacked on would be very disappointing to me personally

Something else I whipped up yesterday that might stir some debate: a tier list for the PKMN starters.
The tier list is based on how I perceive each starter's overall legacy and impact on the fanbase, as evidenced through such factors as popularity and marketability over their years of existence. So, to be clear, this is me trying to be objective and not just making a list of my faves. Also, even though only the final evolution is depicted, my rating is based on the evolution line as a whole.

Here it is:

pkmn starters tl.png

I welcome critiques. I feel pretty good about my S, A, and B tiers; doing the rest was very hard.
Also, I omitted the gen 8 and 9 starters because I am not sure that enough time has passed for them to be properly rated.

The only thing that stands out immediately to me is that I'd probably raise Samurott up one tier, especially since it's the line as a whole. The popularity of Oshawott specifically, as well as the creation of Hisuian Samurott, gives the line enough to be closer to Typhlosion and Decidueye imo.

Also I'm not sure how this case specifically would affect the rating, but it's worth noting that Incineroar has the dubious honor of basically having warped competitive VGC around its mere presence due to how broken it is lmao. Just felt like throwing that in for whatever it counts for.

Moving Samurott to C tier seems reasonable. I still think C tier makes the most sense for Incineroar.
Thanks for the feedback.

Wtf is this list
As someone who can't stand Fadel, I guess I don't see what's immediately wrong with this pic unless lots of fan fave picks are considered bad? Even threw in picks that are only really big in Japan like reimu and etc to balance out the big western exclusive pics like Ray and Doom.

I haven't visited the actual tweet and expanded the photo though.

Edit: should clarify I don't hate him nor is he a bad guy just can't stand the gimmick or yelling and over hyping every announcement if that makes sense

Trust me, you'll get it once you see the full pic.

One thing about the base selection here that amazes me (and assuming Fadel didn't make it himself, wouldn't be his fault fwiw) is that out of 5 new series SEGA characters that aren't from Atlus, one of them is Ristar.

Like.....Arle, Kiryu and Akira? Absolutely. NiGHTS? Comes across to me as a bit of Sonic bias but would be fun, and would at least be a lock for a SEGA fighting game. But imagine looking at the entire SEGA oeuvre, all these interesting well-liked properties, and you pick Ristar. Amazing.

Is this guy real popular or something? Because if I had to have an interest in his list, I wouldn't be able to now. So many odd decisions.

Also, I'd have been way happier if Adeleine was just not included in this chart whatsoever.

Now that you mention it, I need to double check to see if Sega owns Napple Tale. I saw Rebeltaxi's newest video on weird Dreamcast games, and that one in particular stuck out to me. I'd talk about Areisu (or any of the characters from any of the games in that vid) in Smash, but uh... most of them were one-offs and/or Japan exclusives aside from Crazy Taxi 2.

Although I DID like playing as B.D. Joe in that one Sega racing game, NGL...

Hey, Ristar had some cool sprite animations like 10 years ago which might have influenced it. And looking at the tweet again, it seems he was basically just picking at random anyway...

And now I feel dumb for not just thinking to ask you. Thanks, though!

Although since you ARE one of the resident Sega experts, and I somewhat alluded to it in my original post, do you think Crazy Taxi is notable enough for Smash? I know it was REALLY popular back in the day, but I hear it sorta fell off after awhile.

Crazy Taxi is.....complicated. I guess I should just say that I do think it's an important and notable SEGA franchise, buuuuut I don't think its resume compares to stronger candidates like Arle, Kiryu, Akira or Phantasy Star. I think the real issue with it though is that it's kind of complicated to represent in a game like this, cause of A. the characters being kind of Just People, and B. the fact that licensed music is such an integral and iconic part of the series. For something like a racing game I'd say CT is an obvious pick, but for a fighting game? A lil' trickier. IMO the ideal way of representing it would be via Spirit, assuming we suddenly got a bunch of misc. SEGA content lol

I guess I'm just surprised that as far as non-Sonic Sega characters most associated with the Genesis, that Ristar would get selected sooner than Axel or Blaze from Streets of Rage.

Okay I’m offended that Gengar is in the “Shouldn’t be in” list. Not really but I don’t really understand the point of making a list of characters that shouldn’t get in.

That too. At least they got Zero in the right place. I just noticed Kerrigan in the bottom list and I want her even more than Gengar or Nia. At least she’s somewhere on the image even if it’s not where I would have wanted.

Well he made it in a silly stream with his friends where he let his chat make some of the choices and he just went ham on his bias for fun.

It's not meant to be taken that seriously
