Apparently Jump Glide had an absolutely broken application as an approach tool, and if she kept it in Ultimate those nair loops would have been way more of a problem than they were. It would also mean that Palutena would never be able to recover (unless it was a side special and she kept Warp for some ungodly reason) so uh...yeah getting rid of it was a good choice.

I thought Angelic Missile was fine mechanically. Bit of an odd thing for Palutena to turn herself into a missile, but I don't remember it being a terrible move.

Heavenly Light on the other hand easily cracks the top 10 most useless special moves, being right up there with Egg Roll and Rollout.
EDIT: Celestial Firework was also kinda pointless IIRC.

I'm picturing Scintilla meets Place Block and the thought terrifies me.

...

Maybe you were thinking more along the lines of Scintilla + Guardian Orbitars. That's seems more reasonable.

Also today I learned scintilla is an actual word. It also seems to have nothing to do with the spell's effect.
Scintilla + Guardian Orbitars were what I was going for, yeah lol. Like it'd need to be held like the latter, not placed and forgotten like Place Block.

Heavenly Light was a really cool move in concept though. It felt so unique. I wonder if they could have made it useful without being overpowered with proper balancing.
Honestly just get rid of the windbox at the edges, it was a pretty laggy move otherwise iirc.

I'm personally still partial to this setup for Palu:

Neutral, Side and Up Specials remain as Autoreticle, Explosive Flame and Warp respectively.

Down Special: Reflect Barrier - Loses the physical counter effect and becomes a moving wall like in SSB4. Unlike the version in 4, it now deals light damage and hitstun on contact in addition to reflecting projectiles. I'd also like to give Palutena a wall jump and let her use the barrier as a literal wall to mix up her recovery options tbh

Up Taunt: Animation is extended and upon completion casts Heavenly Light (with a smaller range compared to 4 and no windboxes.) Instead of damaging opponents it would now heal Palutena (and teammates) while they stand within the light. Still at a very slow rate of 1% per second, with a duration of 25 seconds. (No, it's not broken, it's like the healing field item but it takes longer to set up and good luck on having an opponent that sits there and lets you heal the full 25%.)

Down Taunt: Changed to Celestial Firework for a fun little damage taunt like Luigi and Greninja.

We don’t talk about bosses enough.

What would you all think if this was the boss roster next game?
View attachment 398097
Fury Bowser - 👍
Calamity Ganon - The worst Ganon ever
Raven Beak - Would be a Fighter, not a Boss
Moebius - Dunno who this is
Octobot King - Meh
Egg Dragoon - I prefer Death Egg Robot, but yes to Eggman
Rathalos - 👍
Master/Crazy Hand - Obligatory
New Boss - No more Smash OC bosses please

Better Boss Roster
Veterans:
Ganon [Legend of Zelda]
Marx [Kirby]
Porky [Earthbound]
Dracula [Castlevania]
Rathalos [Monster Hunter]
Master Hand/Crazy Hand [Smash Bros.]

Newcomers:
Fury Bowser [Mario]
Mother Brain [Metroid]
Andross [Star Fox]
Arceus [Pokemon]
Medusa [Kid Icarus]
Liquid Snake piloting Metal Gear REX [Metal Gear]
Eggman piloting Death Egg Robot [Sonic the Hedgehog]
Dr. Wily piloting Wily Machine [Mega Man]
Safer∙Sephiroth [Final Fantasy]
Astaroth [Ghosts ‘n Goblins]

Would like to see Giygas
Giygas, consumed by Kirby!

Not too bad, honestly. My wishlist would be:
  1. Master Hand
  2. Crazy Hand
  3. Whoever the new main villain is
  4. Duon
  5. Fury Bowser
  6. Petey Piranha
  7. Magolor Soul
  8. Mega Rayquaza
  9. Grima (where you fight the hooded Robin on the dragon’s back)
  10. DJ Octavio
  11. Dragaux
  12. Grunty
  13. Magician Type-0
Also Raven Beak should be a newcomer and I will die on this hill

Hypothetical question: if Raven Beak would join the roster at the expense of one of the unique Metroid fighters, would you do it?

Only if it's Zero Suit Samus. I'll always take a unique character over a 2nd version of a character we already have.

I don't think too many people are trying to storm that hill. He seems like most people would like him.

I haven’t thought a ton about bosses but a few I think could be cool are:

Eternatus (Pokémon)
Jena Anderson (Astral Chain)
Dr. Eggman (Sonic)
Hades (Kid Icarus)
Mobius D&J (Xenoblade)
Fecto Elfilis (Kirby)
Sigma (Mega Man)
Ansem, Seeker of Darkness (Kingdom Hearts)

Yes because ZSS is completely unnecessary when the sole reason she was added isn't a problem anymore plus the direction they've taken her with the really tacky jet heels is lame.

I think ZSS is pretty cool and I’d like to keep as many characters as I can but if I were forced to cut some, she’s fairly low on my priority list due to the fact that she’s an alternate version of a character we already have. I’d take a unique Metroid character over her if given the choice.

I love that Diddy never even mentioned Zero Suit Samus specifically and everyone who's responded immediately said "yes, I would gladly drop Zero Suit Samus for Raven Beak"

But yeah, ZSS was really lucky to get in when she did, because she'd be a really hard sell now. Like I don't think anyone would be too keen on "Samus, but without her armor that everyone knows and loves"

I mean when the other options are regular Samus and Ridley...

I didn't play Dread (never been huge on Metroid games), but I'd probably make the Raven Beak/ZSS trade too. I think even outside of knowing what exactly he's capable of, having a playable Chozo on the roster would be pretty sick since Chozo are so important to the series overall.

I also really like E.M.M.I. as an option. It has a really cool, creepy design and I love the thought of a Smash character being able to crawl up walls and ceilings. It was also much more heavily promoted that Raven Beak in game advertisements. Raven Beak does have the edge in lore and is very important to Samus’s backstory. I’d be happy either way both for different reasons.

Anyone else think Ryu Hayabusa could be a base roster newcomer? He gives me similar vibes as Simon Belmont, as in they're both characters from notable third party franchises that began on the NES.
I do. Similarly to Shadow, I don’t think his recent push helps his chances for the base game but he was already very popular and highly requested so I could see both of them at launch.

As you know, I don't want anyone cut. But I'm playing along with the hypothetical.

Assuming there have been other cuts already and EiH is off the table, then I would easily make that trade.

Why yes. I do think that.

Simon himself having given off similar vibes as Mega Man.

EMMI should be an AT or stage hazard.

ZSS is fun to play and I think represents an important archetype on the roster, I wouldn't want to cut her unless some other character at least took her function.

Honestly? Yeah.

It helps that KT and Nintendo have a VERY good relationship, so it's not like it'd even be that hard to get a hold of the rights. I'm not going to sit here and say Hayabusa's definitively confirmed or anything, but hey, he's got a lot more going in his favor than against it.

Heh, I would pick Zero Suit Samus over Ridley. Ridley is a very awkward fighter. Zero Suit Samus has legacy over Ridley too. Unless they drastically are able to make a better Ridley, I wouldn't want the Ultimate version over Zero Suit Samus. I'd pick ZSS in a heart beat every single time.

Maybe am hypocritical here though. Cause this very same argument would probably make me choose Sheik over Ganondorf too I realise.

Eh? Yeah, Zero Suit Samus it probably is then. Am also aboard.

They better fix up Ridley however. I don't like his Ultimate move set and overall awkwardness at all. Almost like they absolutely forced him in a role even they themselves knew it wouldn't really work. Because to me, it doesn't. Ironically, he's too small.

Honestly, I'd really like a Planet ZDR stage (don't know specific locations, so bear with me lol) with EMMIs as a stage hazard sort of akin to Ultimate Chimera but maybe with a chance to fight them off like how you can sort of parry them in Dread to get away, whether Raven Beak is in or not. Just feels like a logical stage choice to make while also being different from Metroid's typical acid/lava obsession in Smash stages.

I feel like the “too big” argument applies to Eggman even more than it did for Ridley. Eggman is already the size of a larger adult without his mech but he’d be pretty massive with it. It would probably look pretty awkward scaling him down. Ridley is at least a dragon and not a human so it looks less weird seeing him scaled down but if Eggman has to be scaled down to Bowser Jr. size or something just to work, that’s a harder sell. Not saying it’s impossible but it would be really tricky. I feel like a boss is easier.

I also think they probably gonna make Dark Samus more unique next time. Probably Daisy and Isabelle too.

And I always was a fan of Chrom and Lucina being totally revamped and share a same move set based on their Awakening selves.

I really want the Warriors Orochi 3 version of Unbreakable Determination if we get Ryu Hyabusa in Smash. Even better if we get Lu Bu as DLC down the line.

If Eggman's using his Sonic Adventure 2 mech, he's not that much bigger compared to Sonic and Shadow. When he's in his mech in that game, he's probably about 1.5 taller than Shadow and Rouge when looking at him in the cutscenes with those characters. And Bowser in Smash Bros. is past that when comparing Bowser's size to Sonic, so Eggman in his SA2 mech would probably be a middle ground between Ganondorf and Bowser's sizes.

I confused her up taunt with her down taunt and imagined her taking 5 years to flick her hair. lol
